A Run-In with Yanderes and a Sister’s Intervention

Chapter 10 • 1,352 words • 12 min read

Lin Ling burst out of the school gates, finally halting to gasp for breath. This body proved to be far more robust than he had anticipated; with his old physique, running this far without stopping would have left him collapsed on the ground. After a moment, seeing that the other students had not yet emerged, Lin Ling leisurely resumed his pace. He walked slowly for a while, and once he felt his stamina returning, he began to run again.

However, he hadn’t run long before a flurry of urgent footsteps echoed behind him. Even amidst the noisy surroundings, this particular sound was jarringly distinct. Instinctively, Lin Ling glanced back and saw a familiar figure. A flicker of confusion crossed his face as he paused, turning around. Qin Ruoxue’s somewhat blurry features gradually sharpened as she drew closer.

“Ha… ha… ha, Lin Ling, why are you running so fast?”

Qin Ruoxue bent over, hands on her knees, breathing heavily. Lin Ling scratched his head, a flush of embarrassment coloring his cheeks. He hadn’t anticipated Qin Ruoxue would simply follow him.

After all, for an ordinary girl to keep pace with a robust young man was an almost impossible feat.

“I have an urgent matter. I need to get home quickly.”

Fabricating a quick excuse, Lin Ling intended to make a swift escape. He had no desire to interact further with this latent yandere; a single misstep could trigger a dangerous plotline, leading to untold trouble. Yet, before Lin Ling could slip away, Qin Ruoxue grabbed his arm.

“There’s no need for such haste, is there? If it’s really that urgent, I can ask my dad to pick us up.”

“That… wouldn’t be appropriate, would it?”

Upon hearing Lin Ling’s words, Qin Ruoxue raised an eyebrow.

“Are you treating me like an outsider? Just wait a moment, I’ll call my dad.”

Without waiting for Lin Ling to object, Qin Ruoxue promptly dialed a number and placed the call. Lin Ling sighed helplessly. He wasn’t ready to openly break ties with Qin Ruoxue just yet. Their superficial friendship couldn’t be severed, for Lin Ling couldn’t predict what might unfold if it were.

‘Damn it, if only there was some way to directly check affection levels! Why do other transmigrated protagonists get cheat abilities, while I have absolutely nothing!’

Lost in gloomy thoughts, Lin Ling suddenly felt a touch on his arm. Turning his head, his gaze was immediately ensnared by a cascade of silver hair, nearly startling the soul right out of him. Instinctively recoiling two steps, he unmistakably saw that familiar face.

“What’s Lin Ling thinking about?”

Chen Sishi’s expression was pure and gentle, her water-blue eyes fixed on Lin Ling.

‘Crap, how did this person mysteriously catch up?’

As Lin Ling silently grumbled, Qin Ruoxue returned. The moment she saw Chen Sishi, a dangerous glint sparked in her eyes.

“How did you catch up?”

“Hmm? I just followed the road, is something wrong?”

The girl’s answer nearly made Qin Ruoxue choke. What kind of nonsense was this?

“Chen Sishi, why aren’t you going home after school? Why are you following Lin Ling?”

“Am I? I don’t think so.”

“Hmph.”

For some inexplicable reason, this seemingly delicate girl evoked an intense dislike in Qin Ruoxue, much like an animal encountering its natural predator. Seeing the two on the verge of another confrontation, Lin Ling quietly began to inch away, hoping to vanish unnoticed. But before he could take more than two steps, two icy stares landed directly on him.

“Don’t run!”

The two voices rang out almost simultaneously, instantly freezing Lin Ling in place. It felt as though he were playing a game of ‘red light, green light.’ The two girls exchanged a look, and in that silent battle of gazes, seemed to reach a consensus before turning back to Lin Ling.

“Ahaha, why are you two looking at me like that?”

“Lin Ling, tell us, who are you going home with?”

Once again, the two girls spoke in unison, and a shiver immediately ran down Lin Ling’s spine. The question was: two yanderes staring at you simultaneously, who do you choose to walk with? Waiting online, it’s urgent.

“Eh? Ling’er, what are you doing here?”

Just then, a motorcycle pulled up to the curb. A tall woman removed her motorcycle helmet, revealing a strikingly spirited face beneath. Her brown hair cascaded over her shoulders; she appeared to be in her twenties, a little taller than Lin Ling, likely around 177 centimeters.

Her features bore a resemblance to Lin Ling’s, though his somewhat demonic charm in her was transmuted into a captivating allure. Her features were softer, yet nestled within them were a pair of phoenix eyes. These eyes were as sharp as daggers, making her entire presence akin to a drawn sword.

She cast a peculiar glance at the two girls, and then her expression darkened considerably.

“Well, well, you little brat, you’ve really grown up, haven’t you? Now you’re out seducing girls?”

Despite the terrifyingly dark expression, Lin Ling felt no fear; instead, a joyous smile bloomed on his face. Seeing his reaction, Qin Ruoxue and Chen Sishi turned to regard the woman warily. However, upon noticing the woman’s resemblance to Lin Ling, much of their hostility dissipated.

“You are?”

Qin Ruoxue was the first to speak. Lin Yiting observed her, then, as if a mask had been shed, offered a benevolent smile.

“Hello, I’m Lin Yiting, Lin Ling’s older sister.”

“Ah… hello, big sister. We’re Lin Ling’s classmates. We were just planning to walk home together.”

“Oh, going home, are we…”

A sudden chill enveloped Lin Ling. He now had the unsettling realization that his sister might be even more terrifying than a yandere.

“You won’t be needed for that. I’ll take him home. Thank you for your concern.”

With that, Lin Yiting shifted her gaze to Lin Ling and spoke coldly, “Let’s go. It’s time to head home.”

“Oh, right, coming!”

Lin Yiting put her helmet back on and remounted her motorcycle. The two then disappeared down the road.

Chen Sishi, who had remained silent throughout, turned around and left with a dark expression. Qin Ruoxue didn’t bother with her. A moment later, a rather unassuming car pulled up beside her, and she stepped inside.

“Miss, where are your classmates?”

“Oh, Uncle, I’ve told you before, just call me by my name.”

“Ahaha, that’s our professional integrity, Miss. Please don’t make it difficult for me.”

“Alright, fine.”

After Lin Yiting brought Lin Ling home, she unceremoniously dropped him onto the sofa. She looked at the visibly relieved Lin Ling, a question mark forming above her head.

“Ling’er, are you starting a harem?”

“Huh? No, not at all…”

Lin Ling’s heart lurched. He quickly sat up straight, speaking with grave seriousness. Lin Yiting eyed him again, then checked the time on her phone.

“Sigh, I’m not against you dating, but you can’t be stringing multiple people along.”

Lin Ling was speechless. He couldn’t refute her, given that the original novel’s male lead was indeed a scoundrel who juggled a dozen relationships. Yet, Lin Ling couldn’t just blurt out to Lin Yiting that he was a transmigrator, and that her brother’s original body was now occupied by him.

It was crucial to remember that Lin Yiting was a character whose combat prowess was maxed out in the original novel, second only to the yandere female lead. If she were to discover he was an impostor, Lin Ling might not even know how he met his end.

Seeing his lack of reaction, Lin Yiting sighed. She stood up, tied her hair into a single ponytail, and walked towards the kitchen.

“What do you want to eat? Big sister will make it for you.”

“Hmm… anything is fine.”

“Alright.”

Lin Yiting nodded, opened the refrigerator, took out some ingredients, and began to busy herself. Watching her busy silhouette, Lin Ling felt a warm current flow through his entire body.

‘If only she were truly my sister,’ he mused inwardly. Lin Ling then shook his head, beginning to summarize the day’s events.
