“Cough, cough, cough! Take it…”
Forcing back the violent urge to cough in my throat, I pushed the bowl filled with grain porridge toward her.
“Ri—right away, meow!”
The two prominent ears atop her medium-length brown hair twitched. This cat-person before me… or rather, according to the terms used here, a member of the Nako Tribe… had been engaging in a daily trade with me since the second day.
She carefully moved the porridge from my bowl over to her companions, pouring it onto a patch of ground that could be considered clean. Her partners immediately began eating like scavengers, but she first brought the bowl back to me.
Half a bowl, huh… Although I wanted to say she left too much for me, I suppose I should eat as much as possible.
“Today too, thank you, meow.”
“It’s just payment… cough, cough!”
“Um, your physical condition…”
“Go eat yours, come back later… cough!”
I snatched the bowl from her hand. To stifle the cough in my throat, I gulped the grain porridge down greedily.
Since the second day, only my cage had started receiving a supply of relatively healthy grain porridge. From then on, I was able to obtain food that was slightly larger in quantity and better in quality. My cellmates were blessed by association, but I did not stop there.
Even if there hadn’t been extra food, I would have done this, but the current supply situation was beyond my expectations. On the other hand, the Captain seemed quite concerned about my status; whenever she came down to the warehouse, she would definitely walk over to check on me.
This clearly proved that I possessed significant value.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t treat me this well.
Of course, I welcomed the hospitality, because I intended to utilize these resources to their fullest extent.
All for the sake of surviving better.
“Al—right, come here.”
After finishing the porridge, I didn’t even bother to wipe my mouth before calling the Nako girl over.
“Com—coming, meow!”
She didn’t dare neglect me and came over immediately upon hearing my voice. Looking at her, it seemed her companions had left quite a bit for her; a few grains were still stuck near her mouth.
“No time like the present. Let’s begin.”
This was the deal between her and me.
As someone who knew nothing about this world, what I needed most was knowledge. Language, culture, technology, history—anyone who could provide these was a benefactor.
Except the “benefactor” in front of me seemed to be quite forgetful.
“The history of the Gaite Tribe, meow… meow…”
Tapping her fingers together, the s*ave girl’s gaze drifted aimlessly.
“Didn’t I tell you yesterday to prepare? Fine, I’ll change the question, cough! …Ha, the history of the Twelve Tribes. Spit out everything you know.”
“Meow… meow… other than our Beast Tribe, the others are…”
“Even regarding the history of the Beast Tribe, you haven’t said much.”
“Meow-wu!”
Seemingly struck by my words, her ears twitched once and then drooped.
Let me take back what I said; this girl in front of me hardly counts as a benefactor.
I let out a soft sigh. One part of it was mourning the lack of diligence in this s*ave’s learning, and the other part was anxiety over my own meager understanding of this world.
The Demon Realm—no, this world, Chaos—had endured several world wars centered around various races. Gaite, Mushou, Huiti… all sorts of alien race names I had never heard of, totaling twelve in all. As for the history of each race, the exact timing of the wars, the locations of events, or the continental plates—I knew absolutely nothing. I couldn’t expect too much from a s*ave who had been enslaved since childhood.
Currently, I had only gleaned one piece of information: during one of the great wars, the Nako branch of the Beast Tribe seemed to have done something. Her description of this was ambiguous; she had likely only heard of it without any detailed understanding. As for what the Nako Tribe actually did, it was truly unknown. For now, all I needed to know was the result: they were spurned by the world and became a “lowly” race. Is that why there are so many Nako slaves in this warehouse? Or perhaps, in this world, the Nako Tribe accounts for the vast majority of slaves.
In any case, I couldn’t squeeze any more information about other races out of her. I would have to find an opportunity to seek a new source of intelligence.
