Seeing them chat so animatedly, Lin Yi felt his heart grow colder.
How could his sister be involved with a yandere female lead? He couldn’t even tell whose side Lin Yiting was on anymore.
If they became close, they’d undoubtedly team up to scheme against him.
No, this absolutely couldn’t happen.
“Sister, isn’t it a bit inappropriate to just let her come with us like this? Her family might still be frantically searching for her.”
Lin Yiting shot him a glare, then tugged on Lin Yi’s arm, whispering softly.
“You and your big mouth! Aren’t I trying to create an opportunity for you since I can tell you like her? Besides, she said she doesn’t want her brother to know, so let’s just be good people and help you boost your favorability with her.”
Lin Yi’s face immediately darkened at her words.
‘Where did you get the idea that I like her?! An opportunity for what? Isn’t this just pushing me into a pit of fire?’
Indeed, she was his own sister, yet she had no qualms about plotting against him. In the end, Lin Yi gave up trying to argue, watching helplessly as Gu Yuetong was brought back to their home.
****
Upon entering the house, Gu Yuetong was filled with curiosity; she had never lived in such a grand residence. Just looking at the many doors in the living room left her speechless; the space alone could easily fit two of her small family homes.
“Sister, is this your house?”
“Yes, I lived here when I was little, though I don’t come back very often now that I’m grown.”
Gu Yuetong nodded in agreement. Her gaze then fell upon a small cat curled up on a chair, and she excitedly ran over to pick up the sleeping feline.
Appearing displeased at being disturbed, the lazy cat struggled to break free, shot a haughty glance at Gu Yuetong, and then retreated into its cat bed.
“This little cat acts just like a person.”
“That’s just how it is; it’s quite intelligent.”
Gu Yuetong pouted, feeling a little deflated.
After giving Gu Yuetong a tour of the house, the group worked together to prepare a room for her.
Considering Gu Yuetong would only be staying for one night, they merely set up a bed, leaving the rest of the room largely untouched.
After greeting the other family members, the three returned upstairs, sitting in a room and staring blankly at each other, as an awkward silence permeated the air.
“Gu Yuetong, what is your brother doing in Luojiang Town?”
After a long silence, Lin Yi, being the male, was the first to speak. His primary aim was to break the uncomfortable atmosphere, and he was also genuinely curious about why Gu Yuetong was looking for her brother.
After all, this was an early appearance, and these details were never mentioned in the original novel’s plot, so his curiosity was only natural.
“Oh, that? He said it was for some business, and he didn’t invite me along for the fun of it, so I secretly snuck out.”
Lin Yi was left speechless after hearing her explanation. Yet, this was indeed something Gu Yuetong would do. Her personality was such that she never concealed her desires; she simply did whatever she wanted, a classic impulsive character.
Not only was she reckless in personality, but she was also physically robust, possessing some martial arts skills. Her prowess was evident from the earlier scene where she effortlessly pinned Lin Yi down at the slightest disagreement.
“So, you secretly ran away to go on vacation?”
“Exactly. What else would I do at home?”
Lin Yi found no fault in Gu Yuetong’s statement; in fact, he even agreed with her. If Lin Yiting and the lazy cat hadn’t forced him to return, he’d probably still be working a temporary job at some store.
“Sister, what time is our first bus?”
“The first bus? Let me check.”
Lin Yiting got up and left the room, likely heading downstairs to find the schedule. In such remote, small towns, there were no fixed bus departure times. Even if the bus station had a schedule, delays were common.
As a result, people would note down the times the bus passed by, and over time, this became a local custom.
Watching Lin Yiting leave, Gu Yuetong shifted her gaze to Lin Yi. As she observed his handsome face and muscular physique, a surge of impulse stirred within her.
Her childhood environment had shaped her personality to be somewhat extreme.
Especially when it came to things she liked, she harbored an almost obsessive desire.
If she didn’t reveal this side to protect herself, the things she cherished would be snatched away by others, and that was something Gu Yuetong absolutely could not tolerate.
Hence, a different kind of emotion flickered in her eyes as she looked at Lin Yi. However, she didn’t show it too overtly, as they had only recently met.
Judging solely by appearance and a superficial understanding of someone’s conduct was shallow. She was not one of those people who only focused on the surface without caring about inner qualities.
“Is something the matter?”
Feeling somewhat uncomfortable under Gu Yuetong’s intense gaze, Lin Yi reluctantly broke the silence. When Lin Yiting was still present, he could at least maintain some composure. But with Lin Yiting gone, he dared not speak too much with Gu Yuetong, fearing that a wrong word might trigger an unfavorable outcome.
“Nothing. I just think your eyes are very beautiful.”
“Hahaha, really? It’s a family trait.”
“No, no, no, some things can’t be inherited.”
Lin Yi broke out in a cold sweat. ‘Wasn’t she supposed to be a straightforward person? Why is she speaking in riddles now? Don’t break character so casually!’
In reality, Gu Yuetong’s words held no other meaning. She genuinely found Lin Yi’s eyes beautiful, like two bright gems, and the reflection within those gems was entirely her.
Gu Yuetong truly felt an urge to carefully preserve those two gems. For a moment, her thoughts wandered, but she quickly composed herself and looked at Lin Yi with a hint of apology.
“I meant that the world in your eyes seems very pure. You clearly look like a truly good person.”
“Thank you.”
Receiving a ‘good person card’ out of the blue, Lin Yi surprisingly felt a sense of relief. He remembered the saying: being given a ‘good person card’ meant being rejected by a girl. However, Lin Yi merely entertained the thought; since he hadn’t confessed, this could be considered Gu Yuetong praising him.
Not long after, Lin Yiting pushed open the door. In her hand was a yellowed piece of paper that looked quite old, on which clear arrival times were written.
The earliest bus was around six in the morning, but it was almost midnight now, so Gu Yuetong definitely wouldn’t be able to wake up for that. The second bus was around eight, which was manageable with some preparation. As for what preparation, that would, of course, be an alarm clock.
After reviewing the times, Gu Yuetong had no intention of disturbing Lin Yi and Lin Yiting further, immediately deciding to return to her room to sleep.
Once the girl had left, Lin Yiting sat on the bed, looking at Lin Yi with a smile.
“How does it feel? Pretty good, right?”
“Huh? Good? Sister, what exactly are you talking about?”
Seeing Lin Yi feign ignorance, Lin Yiting shook her head helplessly. She thought Gu Yuetong was quite a nice person; if Lin Yi were to fall for her, it would be much better than Chen Sishi.
