A Single Dragon Scale, A Thousand-Year Vow

Chapter 11 • 1,281 words • 11 min read

Snow was falling outside the house, and sparks occasionally popped from the brazier inside.

Although Luo Bai intended to wait for Long Miaoming’s return, his body could no longer hold up, and he drifted into sleep in a posture that was far from comfortable.

Suddenly, a small hole was poked through the window paper.

A wisp of green smoke drifted in, floating through the air and entering Luo Bai’s breath.

After another ten seconds or so, the door was slowly pushed open.

Long Miaoming stood at the threshold, no longer concealing her appearance. She held a bowl containing a small amount of white powder.

Her gaze was complicated as she looked at Luo Bai on the bed.

She walked slowly to his bedside, watching the expression of Luo Bai, whose brow was tightly furrowed even in his sleep.

The words the divine doctor had spoken were still echoing in her mind.

[Worldly legends say there are dragons in the rivers and seas; dragons have reverse scales. If consumed, they can sever the path between life and death.]

This was the solution the divine doctor had given her.

To grind her most untouchable dragon scale into powder and feed it to Luo Bai along with her own fresh blood.

Truth be told, Long Miaoming was somewhat afraid.

Immortals and gods are not permitted to privately interfere with the affairs of the mortal world; this is a rule that has remained unchanged for thousands of years.

If she gave the mixture in her hand to Luo Bai.

Not only might her immortal foundation be stripped away, but Luo Bai’s future reincarnations might also be jeopardized.

“Miaoming…”

While Long Miaoming was hesitating, the still-sleeping Luo Bai suddenly spoke.

Perhaps he was truly having a beautiful dream.

After calling out her name, the painful expression on his face faded significantly, and a faint smile even appeared.

Long Miaoming froze, then gritted her teeth with fierce determination.

She used her fingernail to slice open her own wrist.

Warm dragon blood dripped into the bowl.

Beautiful Brother definitely knew about this method; he knew she was a true divine dragon, yet he had asked the doctor not to tell her.

Even now, even when things had come to this.

He was still here, stubbornly holding on alone…

Long Miaoming gripped her wound, and in an instant, it was as good as new.

She used a spoon to constantly stir the mixture in the bowl.

She gently brought it to Luo Bai’s lips.

“Be good, open your mouth.”

Long Miaoming’s voice rang out softly.

Logically, Luo Bai was asleep and should not have been able to hear her voice at all.

Yet Luo Bai still opened his mouth, drinking the mixture she fed him bit by bit. One spoonful, two spoonfuls, until the entire bowl was finished.

The medicinal effect was instantaneous.

Luo Bai’s brow slowly smoothed out, and his sleep became much more peaceful.

“Miaoming…”

Luo Bai was still murmuring to himself.

“Idiot…”

Long Miaoming touched Luo Bai’s face and smiled slightly. She picked up her bowl and walked out the door.

To save Luo Bai this time, she had truly lost too much qi and blood. She estimated it would take a hundred or two hundred years to recover; she needed to rest well.

The laws of the Heavenly Dao—how could they allow such tampering!

Two phantom shadows, one black and one white, slowly descended to the ground.

The soul-reapers who were originally supposed to take the life were notified to return, and those who came in their stead were the two Lords, Black and White.

On the Ledger of Life and Death in the Underworld, Luo Bai should have been a dying man. Yet, inexplicably, nearly a hundred years of life had been added, and a trace of immortal aura now lingered upon his name.

An immortal had privately altered destiny.

“You two, how about… going back?”

A voice suddenly rang out. The two phantom shadows quickly looked toward the source of the sound.

A figure in Daoist robes was standing leisurely on a tree, eating fruit.

It was a woman, clear-eyed and very beautiful.

“Those two little ones… I find them quite likable.”

The woman spoke plainly, as if the figures before her were not fierce ghosts and gods, but merely ordinary passersby.

“I did not expect that in today’s mortal world, there would still be a living Heavenly Master,” the white phantom suddenly spoke.

“In that case, I wonder if our friends from the Underworld could do me a favor and grant me some face?”

The woman looked at them nonchalantly.

“You both know that with me here, you cannot take him away.”

The black and white figures seemed to glance at each other.

In the end, they did not strike but slowly vanished.

It seemed they did not wish to fight the woman before them.

After the two shadows had truly disappeared.

The woman stretched, jumped down from the tree, and looked toward the direction where Luo Bai lived.

“Between you and me, there is bound to be a connection. if not in this life, then the next…”

The woman suddenly laughed.

“Forget it, I’ll go find that little fellow tomorrow.”

“To make the Black and White reapers move personally, he must have something extraordinary about him.”

The woman softly hummed a tune and disappeared into the night.

“General Sun!”

Before dawn, a figure rushed in hurriedly. The patrolling soldiers quickly saluted.

Sun Ziyue nodded and wanted to find Luo Bai immediately.

Along the way, not only had he lost the divine doctor, but even more terrifyingly, he had actually dreamed that he saw a dragon… and then he was slapped unconscious by the divine dragon.

It was as absurd as it could be.

But when he entered the inner courtyard and saw Luo Bai, he suddenly realized that what he had experienced was not the most absurd thing.

Long Miaoming was supporting Luo Bai as he exercised his body in the courtyard.

After all, he had been lying in bed for too long, and his movements were a bit stiff.

“Oh, General Sun is back.”

Luo Bai also saw Sun Ziyue standing at the door. His first instinct was to pull away from Long Miaoming because their behavior was a bit too close.

“Behave, don’t move around.”

Sun Ziyue had an expression like he had seen a ghost. What made him collapse even more was that Luo Bai actually listened and obeyed.

“Big Brother… are you still my Big Brother?”

Sun Ziyue looked at the two slowly walking toward him, especially the smug-looking Long Miaoming.

“Sister Miaoming, do I need to change how I address you from now on?”

Sun Ziyue said half-jokingly.

Then he saw Long Miaoming smiling as she patted his shoulder.

“No need to change it too much. Just call me Sister-in-Law from now on.”

The deadliest part was that at this moment, Luo Bai actually turned his head to the other side, appearing to give his silent consent.

Did that mean he would have to call this girl, who looked so much younger than him, “Sister-in-Law” in the future?! It was a bit hard to accept.

Sun Ziyue looked at Long Miaoming’s triumphant little expression and felt a bit disgruntled, but if Luo Bai truly liked it, he would accept it.

“Alright, General Sun has had a long journey. Go and rest for a bit,” Luo Bai said, rubbing his nose.

Then he saw Long Miaoming wrinkle her small nose.

“Long journey my a**. He probably slept in some wilderness for a whole day.”

“…How did you know?”
