“Not much of a reaction, huh…”
Gunhee mumbled as he sat in front of his computer, staring at something. It was a reply from Kayak that had just come in.
CamillaIsWeak: Sure, you can upload it.
The short reply didn’t contain anything close to what Gunhee had expected.
He thought there’d be the usual exaggerated reaction people give when they find out he’s a streamer, or maybe some subtle awkwardness about appearing on his broadcast.
He had assumed something like that would come, but Kayak’s response was cool to the extreme.
He figured Kayak might be the latter type, but it seemed Gunhee’s assumption was off the mark.
“Did they already know I was a streamer?”
The fact that Kayak didn’t even ask about the context made it seem likely.
No matter how indifferent someone is, if you tell them you want to upload a video of them, they’d usually ask at least one question.
But then again, was Kayak a stream sniper? Probably not.
Gunhee didn’t get that impression.
It was just pure coincidence that they ended up in the same game.
With his vast experience tracking down stream snipers, Gunhee didn’t feel like Kayak fit the profile.
Stream snipers usually stand out.
They’re the kind of people who intentionally make their presence known, eager to appear on the stream—people full of ego.
That’s what you’d call a stream sniper.
“Doesn’t seem like a sniper,” Gunhee muttered.
Thanks to his many years of experience, Gunhee could distinguish stream snipers like a pro.
And on his radar, Kayak barely registered.
The one ambiguous thing was that Kayak seemed…
When he thought back to that moment, it was clear that the spike in viewers started when Kayak began actively contributing as an ally.
It was likely that someone had posted coordinates on a community board somewhere.
From a broadcasting perspective, it wasn’t an especially remarkable plotline.
It was the typical scenario where streamer Taker encounters an extraordinarily skilled player mid-content, and ends up being carried to victory.
The only thing unusual was that this pro player used a hero no one else had touched and pulled off moves rarely seen in other games.
That alone drew twice the usual audience.
This was proof that people were tuning in to watch the mysterious pro rather than Gunhee himself.
It was also evidence that Gunhee’s decision to keep the player in the spotlight was the right one.
It was then, as Gunhee was reflecting on his success after the broadcast, that his editor reached out.
Tetube No.1: Boss, how did it go? Did you get permission? Can I start working on it?
Jang Gunhee: Yeah, they said it’s fine. You can start editing right away.
Tetube No.1: Yay! I’ll get started immediately!
“Why is he so excited?”
Gunhee stared at his phone, puzzled.
His first editor, whom he’d known for quite a while, wasn’t exactly the most diligent.
His work pace wasn’t that fast either.
If not for his likable personality and good editing sense, Gunhee would’ve replaced him a long time ago.
In any case, this was the first time his editor had ever asked for work ahead of schedule.
Curious, Gunhee asked him.
Jang Gunhee: Yeah, the sooner the better. But why are you so eager to edit this one? It was supposed to be Editor No. 3’s turn, right?
Tetube No.1: Ah, lol; I’m just a fan of Kayak, personally.
“Fan?”
Jang Gunhee: Wait, is that person famous? They have fans?
Tetube No.1: Oh yeah, anyone who’s been playing Abyss for a long time would definitely like him. He’s basically a legendary figure.
Jang Gunhee: That big of a deal?
What the editor explained next was quite interesting.
A top-tier ranker.
A village leader who worked tirelessly to save his dying community.
A beloved figure on Abyss Gallery.
A man devoted to mastering a single hero like a sunflower always turning toward the sun…
Tetube No.1: He even tried streaming to revive the game when the concurrent players dropped to 2,000. There was a shutdown notice back then too. To old-school players, he’s kind of a symbol. Brings back memories of the days when the game was going downhill.
Jang Gunhee: Oh…
Hearing the editor’s explanation, Gunhee realized the events of the day didn’t seem so strange anymore.
Kayak, that mysterious player, turned out to be quite the celebrity.
“Maybe we could collaborate on a stream later…”
Or invite him to a “Masters’ Interview” series.
A flood of possibilities flashed through Gunhee’s mind.
<Kayak video uploaded on Taker’s VTube lol>
Clean editing!
It’s blowing up thanks to the trending algorithm!
Got nothing better to do? Why not drop by and hit like?
– “How long has it been since the game ended? Lol, it’s already up.”
– “70K VTuber’s editor is top-tier.”
– “Why me?”
– “‘User caught with stream snipers turns out to be a hidden master?’ Lmao, gotta use that title for the clicks.”
– “Haha, yeah, if you want to grab attention, that’s the kind of title you need.”
“I liked Taker’s earlier videos; the first and second episodes were simpler…”
“I hit like and even left a comment. Our Kayak isn’t dead yet!”
“This is basically a Kayak montage, lol.”
“The background music during the battle scenes is insane.”
“Kayak! Kayak! Kayak! Kayak! Kayak!”
“Even though I’m watching it again after seeing the live stream, it’s still so good.”
“Honestly, even Kayak probably watched this and smiled, didn’t he?”
“Ew, gross…”
“Our Kayak isn’t into stuff like that…”
“As if! You’re all just simping for a 20-something guy with hairy legs.”
<Named player who suspiciously keeps matching with Abyss streamers…>
“Kayak’s good at stream sniping, but who exactly are you…?”
“Isn’t it just coincidence?”
“Why would Kayak bother with stream sniping?”
“You never know; maybe he just wanted to ‘film’ with Taker.”
“Wasn’t he matching with Nicang two days ago? Lol, he’s already hit Diamond.”
“His record is legendary, and so is his win rate.”
“He hasn’t lost a single match recently.”
“He’s back… Kayak is back…”
“A Kayak with perfected builds? This is unstoppable…”
“Hurry and reach Challenger!”
“Nah, he’ll get stuck even at Grandmaster.”
“It’s not like the old days with fewer rural players. He’ll struggle even to hit Grandmaster with the current user base.”
<I’ve held back long enough, but I’ve got to say something>
“I like that people talk more about the broadcast than the game. I mean, it’s an Abyss streamer, so it’s still relevant. But seriously, why are we talking so much about Kayak, some random non-streamer? Why do they keep milking useless rumors, and why aren’t they blocking people writing those posts?”
“It’s kinda over the top.”
“Yeah, but… the mod has been friends with Kayak since way back.”
“Man, I’ve been playing with your mod since we were kids, even went to the sauna together.”
“Kayak, a regular player? Hmm…”
“If Kayak hadn’t been around, this forum wouldn’t exist, lol.”
“It’s like insulting your ancestors. You’re basically committing heresy.”
“Seriously, we should block this person.”
“Honestly, even if people treat him like the gallery king, I can’t argue with that.”
“If you hate it here, just leave. The monk has to leave the temple.”
“No, you can make your own forum. This is already Kayak’s gallery!”
“Honestly, I hate when these old-timers bring up stuff only they know about.”
“We have so many new users now.”
“Kids these days… They don’t understand the roots… I can’t believe this trash post is getting upvotes. It’s the end of the world…”
<The only way to resolve all these conflicts>
“Kayak just needs to start streaming. If he streams and proves he’s still the OG player from Season 0 and a top-tier ranker, everything will be fine.”
“Will that even happen? Lol, he hasn’t played in years.”
“All the old-timer rankers were exposed as washed-up ages ago, lol.”
“New players who came from other games have already taken all the top spots.”
“Kayak, please stream! Stream and shut down these haters!”
“The only way to save this forum… The Abyss forum was loved more than anyone else by Kayak, and I believe he’ll stream to save it.”
Meanwhile, a woman stood by, watching this whole drama unfold on her phone.
“Abyss forum personified, huh…”
She had never thought of it that way before, but maybe it wasn’t so wrong.
Considering how much she wanted to teach these unruly newcomers a lesson, perhaps it was an accurate expression.
She realized there was an old-timer living inside her, as the forum would put it, and she let out a small chuckle.
