The Skiing Debacle and an Unexpected Show

Chapter 118 • 1,225 words • 11 min read

As it turned out, he was truly ill-suited for such a sport. Fortunately, Gu Yuetong was right there, or he would have been wrestling with the snowboard for quite some time, perhaps even injuring himself.

Gu Yuetong tossed both their snowboards aside. She then meticulously examined Lin Yi, checking him thoroughly. Only when she found him unharmed did her apprehension subside. After all, she was the one who had brought him out here; if anything had happened to Lin Yi, she wouldn’t know how to explain it to Lin Yiting.

“I’m fine. Let’s head down. I think I’m officially done with this,” Lin Yi said, shaking his head. He nonchalantly picked up his snowboard, then looked at Gu Yuetong.

Meeting the exquisite gaze of the young man, Gu Yuetong instinctively clutched her chest. When Lin Yi had fallen earlier, a tumultuous tremor resonated within her. She couldn’t quite name the feeling, yet it held an unexpected, almost addictive allure.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. Let’s go.”

Having returned their ski gear, the two settled onto a wooden bench to rest. Before them lay a large map, its surface covered densely with various recreational facilities.

From a distance, Lin Yi had initially mistook it for a billboard advertising rentals. It took him a considerable moment of contemplation to realize it was, in fact, a map.

From the east to the west, a vast ski area sprawled, occupying a third of the entire map. Surrounding the ski resort, stages, parkour courses, giant pendulum rides, and a myriad of other attractions were laid out, leaving Lin Yi momentarily dizzy with the sheer variety.

“Lin Yi, how about we go see a show later?”

The purple-haired girl, seated beside him on the bench, produced a ticket. The venue and time of the performance were clearly printed on it. Perhaps to entice visitors, the specific program of the show was left blank.

Lin Yi pondered for a moment, a flicker of curiosity stirring within him. It was just a show; nothing strange could possibly happen. Driven by this curiosity, Lin Yi eventually nodded in agreement.

“Sure, I don’t mind.”

Lin Yi’s rare acquiescence delighted Gu Yuetong. It felt as if her thoughts had somehow connected with his, and a wave of pure joy washed over her. Gu Yuetong herself couldn’t explain why she felt this way, only that she sensed a profound merging with Lin Yi, a spiritual unity where they were indistinguishable.

This peculiar sensation made Gu Yuetong incredibly happy whenever she was with Lin Yi.

Gu Yuetong glanced at Lin Yi.

Suppressing the surge of emotion, Gu Yuetong checked the time on her phone. With only a dozen minutes left until the show began, they should comfortably reach the venue before the performance started.

After a quick tidy-up, they arrived at the vicinity of the stage in no time. Directly in front of them stood a “shed” constructed entirely from plastic sheets. From its exterior, the structure appeared unremarkable.

However, behind the heavy cotton curtain at the entrance, a clamor of voices and jostling could be heard.

“There seem to be quite a lot of people. Should we wait for the next show?”

Lin Yi pressed his temples, a slight headache forming. He didn’t want to leave, as this was the only attraction in the amusement park that had truly piqued his interest. Leaving now, he couldn’t deny a lingering sense of unwillingness.

Yet, what good was reluctance? Even if Lin Yi stayed, he wouldn’t be able to see the performance inside.

Noticing the disappointment in Lin Yi’s voice, Gu Yuetong slapped her thigh. She pointed at the shed ahead, declaring confidently, “Don’t worry, Lin Yi, it’s just a show. Wait for me here for a moment, and then we’ll go in together.”

Lin Yi was utterly surprised, wondering when she had suddenly become so insightful. A shiver ran down his spine as a vivid image flashed through his mind.

In this vision, Gu Yuetong, armed with a long blade, carved a bloody path through a dense crowd. Then, she turned, a smile gracing her lips, and waved at him, shouting, “Come on, Lin Yi! Now it’s just the two of us!”

At this thought, Lin Yi quickly stepped in front of Gu Yuetong. While it couldn’t possibly be as exaggerated as his imagination, given Gu Yuetong’s personality, resorting to violence to solve problems was a highly probable scenario.

Seeing Lin Yi block her path, Gu Yuetong tilted her head in confusion. Her dark purple hair swayed to one side with her movement, and her beautiful face resembled that of an ethereal sprite.

Lin Yi instinctively swallowed, but remained resolutely in front of Gu Yuetong.

“What are you going to do?”

“Hehe, I won’t tell you. Just wait for my good news here.”

With that, Gu Yuetong flashed a mischievous smile, deftly dodged past Lin Yi, and quickly vanished from his sight.

Lin Yi wanted to pursue her, but felt powerless. Gu Yuetong was a martial artist, her combat prowess in the book was practically unparalleled. He, on the other hand, was utterly useless in a fight; stopping her was an impossible feat.

Finally, with a helpless sigh, he found a nearby bench and settled down to rest. He could only hope this wild girl wouldn’t do anything he imagined.

After waiting on the bench for a while, a commotion erupted from the direction of the shed. Lin Yi looked over, his expression freezing slightly.

The cotton curtain at the entrance of the shed was pulled open, and a group of unfamiliar faces emerged. Smiles adorned their faces, though he couldn’t discern the reason for their cheer.

Just as Lin Yi wondered, a familiar figure darted out, excitedly waving at him.

“Lin Yi, hurry over!”

“Coming,” he replied.

Reluctantly, he rose and slowly walked towards Gu Yuetong. Only after stepping inside did Lin Yi realize that the shed was now completely empty.

He felt a pang of surprise. There had been so many people earlier; getting them all to leave would have been a difficult task, certainly not achievable through simple force.

“How about that? Aren’t I amazing?”

The purple-haired girl stood with her hands on her hips, looking quite proud. She had paid a hefty sum to get everyone to leave so that they could watch the show alone. If she didn’t receive commendation, she would be very disappointed.

Lin Yi looked at the lively Gu Yuetong before him, and understanding the expression on her face, he responded with a faint smile, “Indeed, quite amazing. I trust you didn’t resort to hitting anyone?”

“Huh? Don’t assume I’m just a brute! I use my brain too, you know!”

Gu Yuetong puffed out her cheeks, feigning anger as she turned her head away. Her delicate face, paired with such an adorable expression, was truly a beautiful sight. Influenced by Gu Yuetong’s mood, Lin Yi felt his spirits lift slightly. The barrier that had stood between them seemed to be slowly fading.

Upon realizing this, a mischievous smile, identical to Lin Yiting’s, appeared on Lin Yi’s lips.

“You use your brain? Why have I never noticed before?”

“You!”

His words struck a nerve with Gu Yuetong, who glared angrily at Lin Yi. This time, her anger was genuine, not feigned.

“Lin Yi, just you wait! You’ll get what’s coming to you, hmph!”
