Moving Into the Jiang Mansion

Chapter 13 Part 21,380 words12 min read

She had no choice but to drop the topic for now.

Jiang Jibai drove her to the school gate and left.

When Wen Xi returned to her dorm, Cheng Cheng saw the document folder in her arms and the large paper bag in her hand.

Inside the bag were ancient costumes used for filming.

Cheng Cheng immediately understood.

“I knew it. When you said you had something to do today, you weren’t meeting your French teacher.”

“You were doing something related to your idol.”

“Looks like you got quite a haul today.”

Wen Xi shrugged.

“It’s okay. I just didn’t see my idol.”

Cheng Cheng wasn’t a fan of celebrities.

She simply came over to watch Wen Xi examine her new celebrity merchandise.

Lin Shu sat nearby wearing headphones and listening to English broadcasts.

She was the most studious person in dorm 303 and ignored everything outside when studying.

Just like usual.

So Cheng Cheng enthusiastically helped Wen Xi hang up the costume pieces.

Meanwhile Wen Xi carefully removed several USB drives and photos from the document folder.

She wiped them with disinfectant wipes and placed them neatly into albums and drawers.

Later that night, as Wen Xi climbed into bed, Jiang Yin finally messaged her.

– Yin Yin: Did you get him drunk? Did you find out anything?

Wen Xi hugged her plush toy and typed back.

– Rice Cake: His alcohol tolerance is insane. We almost finished a whole bottle of forty-degree brandy and he was still completely sober.

– Rice Cake: I feel like even two bottles wouldn’t get him drunk. This plan doesn’t work on him.

– Yin Yin: What?! Jiang Jibai drinks that well?!

Wen Xi rolled over and faced the wall.

She remembered the thing pressing against her tailbone on the sofa earlier.

She bit her lip before typing again.

– Rice Cake: But there’s good news.

– Yin Yin: I’m listening!

– Rice Cake: Jiang Jibai… works.

He really works.

Even now, Wen Xi still remembered it vividly.

– Yin Yin: Wait WHAT??? The kind of works I’m thinking about???

– Rice Cake: Yes.

– Yin Yin: Damn! How did you find out?!

– Rice Cake: Don’t ask…

– Yin Yin: HAHAHA okay.

– Yin Yin: So you’re really going to seduce him?

Wen Xi bit her lip so hard it turned red.

– Rice Cake: For Qiao Zhinian, anything is worth it.

– Yin Yin: Just make sure you’ve thought it through.

– Yin Yin: From what my brother says, aside from being aloof and intimidating, Jiang Jibai doesn’t really have any flaws.

– Yin Yin: Even if you weren’t doing this for Qiao Zhinian, he’d actually be a pretty good husband candidate.

– Yin Yin: That’s assuming he loves you. If he doesn’t… living with someone that cold forever would be unbearable.

– Rice Cake: Wow Yin Yin, that’s thinking way too far ahead.

– Rice Cake: I only married Jiang Jibai for Qiao Zhinian.

– Rice Cake: Once I get the information I need and Jiang Jibai isn’t pressured to marry anymore, we might go our separate ways immediately.

– Yin Yin: Yeah… I guess I did go too far.

– Yin Yin: Anyway, as long as you’ve thought it through.

– Rice Cake: I have.

After learning Jiang Jibai had no physical issues, Wen Xi was fully prepared to seduce him.

Unfortunately, she never found the opportunity.

For the next week, she didn’t see Jiang Jibai at all.

When she asked him on WeChat, he replied briefly that he had gone abroad with his advisor and wouldn’t return for a week.

After that week, he was still nowhere to be seen.

Wen Xi was desperate for news about her idol.

She even tried attending a crowded C-language theory class hoping to run into him.

But the substitute teacher that day was another graduate student.

Still, she learned something surprising.

The professor for that course—Jiang Guangsi—was Jiang Jibai’s uncle.

The university didn’t forbid relatives from supervising family members.

And Jiang Jibai’s doctoral interview panel had not included Jiang Guangsi.

Everything had been transparent.

So studying under his uncle wasn’t a violation.

No wonder Jiang Jibai, despite being so busy, sometimes substituted for the professor.

Family pressure.

On Wednesday, Wen Xi only had one early morning class.

After that she couldn’t get a meeting with Jiang Jibai again.

So she attended her French grammar elective.

That class was in the literature building across campus.

Just as she sat down and opened her laptop, her phone buzzed.

A text message from an unfamiliar number appeared.

186****2299: Is this Wen Xi? I’m Jiang Wenxin, Jiang Jibai’s cousin. Do you have time to talk? I’m at the café outside your university.

Wen Xi glanced at the time.

Class would start in less than a minute.

But the girl knew her number and was already nearby.

It would be rude to refuse.

So Wen Xi closed her laptop and left.

At the café near campus, a girl by the window waved at her.

“Over here.”

Wen Xi sat down.

“I didn’t know what you liked, so I ordered you a latte.”

“Thank you.”

Wen Xi looked at the girl.

Long straight black hair.

Sharp fox-like eyes.

Elegant figure in a fitted shirt and trousers.

Beautiful and cold.

“What did you want to talk about?”

Jiang Wenxin looked at her.

“My aunt had an accident and is in the hospital. Did you know?”

She watched Wen Xi’s reaction carefully.

Wen Xi shook her head without thinking.

“I didn’t hear anything. Is it serious?”

But when she saw the knowing look in Jiang Wenxin’s eyes, alarm bells rang.

Was she testing whether Wen Xi and Jiang Jibai were truly in love?

If she didn’t know about the accident, it meant Jiang Jibai hadn’t told her.

Which meant they weren’t close.

Which meant their marriage might be fake.

Was Zou Jiayun testing her?

Jiang Wenxin sipped her coffee calmly.

“It’s not too serious. She broke a leg and needs a cast. My brother didn’t tell you?”

Wen Xi quickly invented an excuse.

“Maybe he didn’t get the chance yet.”

“This happened yesterday.”

“You’re his wife.”

“My aunt is your mother-in-law.”

“And he didn’t tell you all night?”

Wen Xi frowned.

Definitely a test.

She quickly said,

“We had an argument yesterday. I blocked his number and WeChat.”

“So he couldn’t contact me.”

Jiang Wenxin nodded.

“I see.”

Then she said,

“I’m going to visit her now. Want to come?”

Wen Xi had no classes that afternoon.

So she agreed.

On the way to the hospital, she texted Jiang Jibai.

– Rice Cake: Is your mother okay? Your cousin came to see me. I think I almost slipped up.

– Rice Cake: I’m going to the hospital with her now.

A moment later he replied.

– Jiang Jibai: I’m at the hospital.

Wen Xi sighed with relief.

Good.

He was there.

Soon she entered the hospital room.

“Xi Xi!”

Zou Jiayun greeted her warmly.

“My dear, it’s just a small injury. You didn’t need to come all this way.”

Wen Xi smiled politely.

“You’re in the hospital. Of course I should come see you.”

Jiang Jibai sat beside the bed peeling an orange.

He glanced at her briefly.

Jiang Guangnian spoke.

“Jibai, just move back home for two months and ease your mother’s worries.”

Jiang Jibai remained silent.

Then he calmly said,

“As long as Xi Xi agrees, I have no objections.”

Wen Xi: “……”

She had agreed a hundred times already.

But she tried to appear shy.

Finally she nodded.

“Of course. Since you’re injured, we should stay with you for a while.”

Zou Jiayun beamed.

And just like that—

The decision was made.

Wen Xi and Jiang Jibai would move back to the Jiang family mansion for two months.

Later that night, in Jiang Jibai’s bedroom at the old mansion—

He stepped out of the bathroom wearing only a towel.

His wet hair dripped slightly.

His muscular chest and abs were completely exposed.

Wen Xi stared.

Her eyes drifted downward.

She tried to hold back.

She failed.

“Jiang Jibai.”

“You’re really pink.”
