Do You Know President Gu?

Chapter 14 • 1,377 words • 12 min read

On Saturday evening, Lu Ran drove the company car to take Su Nanxing to the banquet.

Throughout the journey, Lu Ran grumbled, “Nanxing, you’re the general manager of the company now. Can’t Su Bingtian at least get you a decent car?”

Su Nanxing leaned back in the seat with his eyes closed, resting, and ignored him.

Lu Ran glanced at the person in the passenger seat.

He wore a black French-collar shirt, his suit jacket fastened with just one button, and the tiny silver sequins across his chest made him look refined and dazzling.

How could he be reduced to driving an Audi?

“President Su, how about I sponsor you to buy a McLaren? Then we’ll go back to Qiuming Mountain and have a blast!”

Su Nanxing let out a light scoff. “Can you even sponsor a single wheel?”

Although Lu Ran was spoiled at home, he had no real power.

The family business was entirely controlled by his older brother.

His extra allowance was only enough for him to play with cars.

When Su Nanxing first arrived in Jiangcheng during middle school, no one was willing to play with him, the illegitimate child—except Lu Ran.

Later, the two were admitted to the same university, both majoring in architectural design.

Their friendship had been built since those middle school days.

Lu Ran had his own talents, but no space to display them.

He couldn’t just go to work for any company in Jiangcheng and go against his own brother.

Although Su Nanxing had appointed him as design director at the Su Corporation branch in the capital, he felt more like Su Nanxing’s assistant, because in the entire branch, the people Su Nanxing could trust were few and far between.

Lu Ran became anxious. “You look down on me, don’t you? I work like a horse for you every day, and you can’t even say something nice!”

Su Nanxing coaxed him with gentle words. “Alright, once we finish the big business in the capital, I’ll buy you the flashiest McLaren.”

Lu Ran felt appeased, so he shut his mouth and stopped complaining.

When they arrived at the hotel entrance, Lu Ran still worried.

“Nanxing, are you sure you don’t need me to go with you? Don’t you dare drink any unknown wine!”

Su Nanxing’s face instantly turned icy. “Don’t worry. I won’t fall into the same pit twice.”

In the main hall of the banquet, Qin Shifeng was talking to someone.

He sat with his back to the entrance, facing Gu Yanzhou and Lin Muze.

During the conversation, he answered a phone call and stood up with slight apology.

“Sorry, I have to go pick someone up.”

Lin Muze teased, “Who is it that requires the esteemed Young Master Qin to personally pick them up?”

Qin Shifeng smiled faintly. “A friend.”

Lin Muze clicked his tongue, pretending to be dismissive.

Everyone knew that Young Master Qin wasn’t one to make friends easily.

Qin Shifeng left the banquet hall and saw Su Nanxing leaning against the railing, looking at his phone from afar.

With just one glance, Qin Shifeng was captivated.

Today’s Su Nanxing was impossibly beautiful.

The evening breeze brushed the stray hairs on his forehead.

His profile was soft yet carried a detached refinement, and even his fingertips as he scrolled through his phone were too beautiful to look away from.

The moment Su Nanxing looked up, he hastily withdrew his covetous gaze. “Nanxing, over here.”

Su Nanxing put away his phone and strode over. “President Qin.”

Qin Shifeng laughed casually. “When I introduce you later, don’t be so formal and call me President Qin. I’ve told them, you can call me ‘Brother’.”

Su Nanxing was taken aback, but he politely adjusted. “Brother Qin.”

Qin Shifeng patted his shoulder. “Come on, let’s go in.”

As soon as they entered, Qin Shifeng ran into an acquaintance.

He deftly took two glasses from a waiter. “President Xu, this is the President Su I mentioned to you.”

Su Nanxing raised his glass. “President Xu, a pleasure.”

Su Nanxing then met a few more people with Qin Shifeng.

Perhaps because Qin Shifeng was nearby, those people treated Su Nanxing very well.

Even if their eyes showed amazement, they didn’t pry too much.

Su Nanxing suddenly understood a truth: it was never because of his face that others harbored dirty thoughts; what truly made people dare to disrespect him was always his insignificant identity and status.

“What are you thinking about?”

Qin Shifeng offered him a small piece of cake with a spoon. “You’ve had quite a bit to drink. Have something to settle your stomach first.”

Su Nanxing reached out to take it, but Qin Shifeng deftly dodged and directly brought it to his lips.

Su Nanxing took half a step back, raised his hand to accept the cake, and said politely, “Thank you.”

Qin Shifeng nonchalantly lowered his head, picked another pastry, and ate it. “Mm, not bad.”

On the sofa in the main hall, Gu Yanzhou saw Su Nanxing the moment he entered.

Today, he looked like someone he had never seen before.

He had seen him as a pure youth, and as a seductive demon, but today he was a noble and cold beauty he had never seen.

How dare he appear in public looking so stunning!

He squeezed the wine glass in his hand until it creaked.

Lin Muze shivered.

Why did it suddenly feel cold for no reason?

“Brother Zhou, is the air conditioning too strong? Why is it so chilly?”

He turned and found Gu Yanzhou’s expression terrifyingly dark.

He scratched the back of his head.

Had he said something wrong?

Following Gu Yanzhou’s gaze, he exclaimed, “Holy shit! Brother Zhou, that demon—do you remember? The illegitimate son of the Su family—we saw him in Jiangcheng.”

“How did he get together with Old Qin? Wait, how is he in the capital?”

Lin Muze’s attention was entirely captured by the ‘demon’, and he didn’t notice the murderous glare beside him.

It was only when Qin Shifeng brought the person over to them that Lin Muze snapped out of it.

“Yanzhou, Muze, let me introduce someone.”

When Su Nanxing heard Gu Yanzhou’s name, he abruptly looked up and met Gu Yanzhou’s utterly calm and unruffled gaze.

Gu Yanzhou had already retracted all the anger in his eyes long before they approached.

“Su Nanxing, general manager of the capital Su Corporation branch, and also… my friend.”

Qin Shifeng’s words were directed at both Gu Yanzhou and Lin Muze.

But his eyes stayed fixed on Gu Yanzhou.

He was very calm, showing no ripples.

Lin Muze, on the other hand, was very enthusiastic. “Second Young Master Su, it really is you! We met in Jiangcheng. You look very different now, but still very handsome, very beautiful—simply a celestial being descended to earth.”

Su Nanxing was embarrassed.

He had experienced people secretly appraising his appearance, and had encountered rude and frivolous behavior, but this kind of blunt straightforwardness was a first.

Qin Shifeng, seeing Su Nanxing’s embarrassed face, rapped Lin Muze on the forehead. “Lin Muze, watch your words.”

Lin Muze gave an awkward smile. “I wasn’t wrong, was I, Brother Zhou? In Jiangcheng, he wasn’t like this.”

Qin Shifeng raised an eyebrow, glanced at Gu Yanzhou, then at Su Nanxing. “Oh? Nanxing, do you know President Gu?”

For a moment, Su Nanxing didn’t know how to answer.

‘Does Gu Yanzhou want me to say I know him?’

Qin Shifeng slapped his forehead and laughed. “Oh, right, look at my memory. Nanxing said he saw Yanzhou on financial news, so that counts as knowing him.”

Gu Yanzhou put down his glass, stood up, and walked over to Su Nanxing. “Oh, is that so? President Su has only seen me on TV?”

Gu Yanzhou was tall and straight.

Standing in front of Su Nanxing, he cast a shadow over him, leaving him no room to retreat.

Su Nanxing instinctively shrank back.

When he looked up at him, there was already a hint of weakness and plea in his eyes.

But Gu Yanzhou just looked down at him with a light expression, clearly unwilling to let him off easily, insisting on hearing an answer from his own mouth.
