Under Chen Ye’s covert control, the half-finished Heavenly Demon Rogue-Ears played a huge role, successfully shattering Wen Ya’s feelings for Nan Gong Yi. Nan Gong Yi’s original intention was to express concern for Wen Ya, yet his words, distorted by the Heavenly Demon Rogue-Ears, had the opposite effect. They caused Wen Ya to develop an aversion to Nan Gong Yi, the first time Wen Ya had ever felt antagonism toward her own family.
Unfortunately, the half-finished Heavenly Demon Rogue-Ears required the consumption of demonic power to activate, and Chen Ye’s existing power was severely limited. Therefore, he couldn’t keep Wen Ya’s Rogue-Ears activated for long periods. He decided to use the scarce demonic power judiciously, focusing it entirely on damaging Wen Ya’s relationship with Nan Gong Yi. Every time Nan Gong Yi spoke to Wen Ya, Chen Ye would activate the Rogue-Ears, using them to make Wen Ya resent Nan Gong Yi until she utterly loathed and hated him.
As for Wen Ya and Wen Tian’s sibling relationship, Chen Ye had no immediate plans to sabotage it. Beyond the practical issue of limited demonic power, Chen Ye felt it was unnecessary for the time being. After all, he wanted to replace Wen Ya’s father, Nan Gong Yi, not become her brother. Therefore, Chen Ye decided to let Wen Ya maintain a good sibling relationship with Wen Tian. Once he successfully demonized Wen Ya, he could slowly deal with Wen Tian using her.
However, Wen Tian had repeatedly thwarted his plan for world domination and had almost killed him before, so Chen Ye had never intended to spare Wen Tian from the start. Wen Tian was solely responsible for Chen Ye’s current predicament of lacking demonic power, so Chen Ye had long devised the best way to take revenge.
Chen Ye would make Wen Tian “willingly” become his accomplice, assisting him in conquering the entire world, just like Wen Ya. However, Chen Ye currently had to focus on the plan to demonize Wen Ya, so the plan for revenge against Wen Tian could only be postponed indefinitely.
After all, Wen Tian was simply too powerful, and he was also a Nüwa successor, making the plan to demonize him terrifyingly difficult. Chen Ye could only dream about it for now; he truly had no way to deal with Wen Tian yet.
At this moment, Wen Ya, in a terrible mood, was alone at home brooding. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, starting to whisper criticisms of her father, Nan Gong Yi.
Chen Ye had anticipated Wen Ya’s reaction and seized the opportunity to speak to her: “Wen Ya, did something unhappy happen to you early this morning? Dad could sense your mood worsening rapidly just now. Brooding is bad for your health, Wen Ya, so tell Dad what made you unhappy, and let Dad share your worries and help you resolve them.”
When Wen Ya heard Chen Ye’s words, she immediately felt a rush of comfort, like a spring breeze. This was, of course, the effect of the Heavenly Demon Rogue-Ears, which Chen Ye had activated before starting the conversation with Wen Ya.
Due to Chen Ye’s little trick, the internal comparison between Chen Ye and Nan Gong Yi began again in Wen Ya’s mind. Wen Ya thought her father, Nan Gong Yi, spoke so harshly, scolding her severely over trivial matters. In contrast, her dream-dad spoke so sweetly, comfortable just to listen to, never scolded her, and always cared for and protected her. Now, when her mood was down, her dream-dad immediately came to comfort and care for her. He was truly a good, qualified father.
Following this comparison, Wen Ya grew more averse to Nan Gong Yi and began to favor Chen Ye.
Wen Ya decided to complain to her dream-dad, venting her inner dissatisfaction with Nan Gong Yi: “Dad, thank you for worrying about me. Actually, it’s nothing major, just that my dad—no, my other dad, Nan Gong Yi, said a lot of harsh things to me today, which ruined my mood. They were just trivial matters, but he severely criticized me. It was too much. So, Dad, don’t worry about it. I’ll adjust my mood soon; you can relax.”
From Wen Ya’s words, Chen Ye confirmed that the effect of the Heavenly Demon Rogue-Ears was excellent. It had successfully destroyed Nan Gong Yi’s image in Wen Ya’s mind and further elevated his own standing.
Chen Ye was secretly overjoyed, but used a calm tone to ask Wen Ya: “Wen Ya, what exactly happened between you and your father? Tell me quickly. You two used to have such a good relationship.”
Wen Ya didn’t hide anything and fully recounted the events of the morning to Chen Ye, adding: “Dad, don’t you think what he said was too much?”
Chen Ye wouldn’t dare badmouth Nan Gong Yi at this point. After all, Wen Ya still had deep affection for Nan Gong Yi, and her anger was only temporary. Slander would be counterproductive and might make Wen Ya think he wasn’t a good person. Therefore, Chen Ye needed to establish his own image as the perfect good father, making Wen Ya compare them herself and choose him out of the two fathers.
So, Chen Ye spoke earnestly to Wen Ya: “Wen Ya, some of your father’s words were indeed a bit excessive this time, but you must forgive your father this one time, and it’s best to forget the whole incident immediately.”
Wen Ya was perplexed, asking in confusion: “Dad, why do you want me to do that? It was clearly his fault. I even hoped he would apologize to me. You’re saying I should just drop it?”
Chen Ye continued his earnest explanation: “Wen Ya, Nan Gong Yi is your birth father, and you are his biological daughter. All parents in the world are good to their children, and your father is no exception. He did what he did today out of concern for you; he was actually doing it for your own good. It’s just that your father’s manner of speaking was inappropriate. But Wen Ya, you must learn to be considerate of your father, and continue to be the obedient and sensible good child you were before. A good child must not hate her parents, and should prioritize family harmony.”
Chen Ye’s lecture, reinforced by the Heavenly Demon Rogue-Ears, was highly effective. Wen Ya’s tone immediately softened: “Dad, you are right. He meant well; he was trying to show concern for me. If only he could speak to me like you do, Dad, I definitely wouldn’t be angry. You are right, Dad, a good child shouldn’t hate her parents, so I’ve already forgiven him.”
Chen Ye continued: “Wen Ya, it’s wonderful that you understand this. You have always been an obedient and sensible good child, Wen Ya, and Dad hopes you can always remain that way. As a child, Wen Ya, you must listen to your parents and be well-behaved and sensible while helping them as much as possible, since you are growing up now. This way, your relationship with your parents will improve, and the whole family will be more harmonious and happy.”
Wen Ya felt that Chen Ye’s words made complete sense, and she nodded immediately: “Dad, I understand. I will continue to be a well-behaved and sensible good child, and I will help my parents as much as possible!”
Chen Ye then added: “Wen Ya, whenever our conversations involve your father, there’s always ambiguity, as you call both me and Nan Gong Yi ‘Dad.’ So, for any future conversations concerning your father, I hope you can call me Dad, and use Nan Gong Yi’s full name for your biological father. This is due to my own selfish desire, and I hope you can understand, Wen Ya.”
The reason Chen Ye worked so hard to persuade Wen Ya to be an obedient child who listens to her father wasn’t due to a sudden fit of conscience, nor was it to repair the father-daughter relationship between Wen Ya and Nan Gong Yi. It was for his own wicked purpose. Attempting to demonize a Nüwa successor cannot be rushed, so he had to proceed step-by-step, meaning he couldn’t afford to let Wen Ya’s relationship with Nan Gong Yi break down completely just yet.
A more important reason for Chen Ye’s action was that Wen Ya would become his daughter in the future, so Chen Ye needed Wen Ya to maintain her good, obedient qualities. Only then would Wen Ya be obedient and sensible like this when she transformed into his daughter, the Heavenly Demon Princess. Chen Ye desperately wanted Wen Ya to become an utterly compliant girl. If Wen Ya could become entirely obedient to her father, it would be ideal. Then, once he became Wen Ya’s father, the Heavenly Demon Princess Wen Ya would be completely obedient to him.
Chen Ye’s final request was the real killer move. On the surface, it was to avoid ambiguity, but in reality, it was a long-term strategy to ensure Wen Ya consistently called him “Dad” and stopped calling Nan Gong Yi “Dad.” Over time, Wen Ya would naturally call Chen Ye “Dad” and refer to her biological father, Nan Gong Yi, by his full name. Gradually, Wen Ya would unconsciously regard Chen Ye as her true father and Nan Gong Yi as an acquaintance whose name she could casually use. The change in intimacy would be self-evident.
Wen Ya agreed almost without hesitation: “Dad, I promise you. Since no one else will know about our conversation, it’s fine for me to call Nan Gong Yi by his full name. This way, there won’t be any ambiguity in the future. Also, Dad, thanks to your comfort, my mood has recovered. Thank you so much. I’m going outside the city now to collect the Dream Continuation Stones.”
Just then, Yu Ling Long suddenly appeared in front of Wen Ya.
Yu Ling Long was excited to see Wen Ya this time. She circled Wen Ya while flying, saying: “Wen Ya, I thought you ran out alone again today. Wen Ya, please don’t leave me and go out alone again. I searched for you all day yesterday.”
Yu Ling Long’s sudden appearance caught Wen Ya off guard, and she was momentarily flustered. Wen Ya’s original plan for today was to continue collecting the Dream Continuation Stones, but since this had to be kept secret from others, she couldn’t take Yu Ling Long with her. However, she couldn’t think of a good excuse to send Yu Ling Long away, so Wen Ya started to worry.
Wen Ya immediately contacted Chen Ye for help: “Dad, Yu Ling Long found me and wants to go out and play with me. But I have to collect the Dream Continuation Stones, and I can’t let her know. Dad, what should I do?”
Chen Ye spoke to Wen Ya in a gentle tone: “Wen Ya, then just take Yu Ling Long along with you. She has grown up with you, and your relationship has always been very good. You shouldn’t damage your feelings for each other because of the Dream Continuation Stones. Besides, Wen Ya, you already collected quite a few stones yesterday, so today, just relax and play with Yu Ling Long. You can collect a few stones along the way; you don’t need to search intentionally. As for keeping it a secret, why don’t you just tell Yu Ling Long that you’re collecting little pebbles?”
Wen Ya felt that Chen Ye’s suggestion was very reasonable and immediately agreed, saying she would follow his advice. Then, Wen Ya and Yu Ling Long left the house together, heading outside Nan Gong City.
