“Did you have a fiancé?”
“Well, it’s a political engagement, but yes, I do. The third prince of the Payosha Marquis family is my fiancé.”
What kind of mistake has that third prince of the Payosha Marquis committed to be engaged to Shione?
Thanks to my support in various ways, she has become the person she is now.
Not long ago, Shione was like a bear, cooped up in her cave, sleeping all year round.
“Looking at your expression, it seems that you also find it hard to believe that I have a fiancé.”
“Ah… I’ll correct myself.”
“No, it’s fine. I’m just as bewildered, so I can’t expect you to feel any different.”
“…So what should I do when I go to the Payosha Marquis?”
“To…….”
Shione scrunched her face as if she was in deep trouble. She tousled her hair and sat up, looking directly at me with her disheveled hair.
“I’ve never met him or even exchanged a word with him. Of course, it’s obvious what I need to do since I don’t even know his name.”
“A date, of course. Don’t worry. Even if he is a prince of the Marquis family, he’s still a man, so I’ll teach you how to melt a man’s heart with your words and actions.”
“…Haha, you’re quite something.”
Clap, clap, clap.
Shione applauded with a dazed expression.
After that, she snorted and quickly continued speaking.
“To think of marrying someone who has lived as a pure man until now. I might not care what other nobles think, but I have no desire for such a political marriage.”
“…Are you seriously thinking of going directly to the Payosha Marquis to break off the engagement?”
“If possible. I want to somehow lead it to a breakup.”
“It’s not just a count’s prince; it’s an engagement with a marquis’s prince.”
“…….”
Shione hesitated for a moment.
She looked at me with bright eyes, as if she had made a decision.
Watching her, I couldn’t help but think she looked like a puppy staring at her owner she trusts completely.
“…You said you’d tell me what kind of words and actions men like?”
“That’s right. I’m a man too, so at the very least, I can share what might resonate with an average man’s heart.”
The reversal of gender roles was a bit concerning, but………..
Well, I think people’s thoughts are all pretty much the same.
I should be able to provide enough help.
“Then… can you also tell me what words and actions the prince might dislike?”
“…Pardon?”
No, has she finally lost her mind?
To ask for what kind of words and actions the prince of the Marquis family, who is engaged to her, might dislike?
Even if he is the third prince, he is still a respectable offspring of the Payosha Marquis family.
No matter how I look at it, this girl seems to have turned into a person on the outside, but on the inside, she doesn’t seem fully human yet.
“Is it really, really impossible………?”
“Seeing you talk nonsense like this, Shione, it seems you are under too much stress. Please wait just a moment.”
“Where are you going all of a sudden?”
“I’ll bring some snacks. It might be better for you to think it over slowly while eating something.”
“…Okay, I understand.”
I returned to Shione’s room with a plate full of various snacks.
Having recently chewed on nothing but apples, Shione seemed to be really looking forward to the treats.
As soon as I entered, she got up from the bed and quickly approached me.
She grabbed a snack from the plate and seemed to light up as if she had won the world.
“It’s so good since I haven’t eaten this in a long time.”
“Please don’t stand like that; let’s eat at the table.”
“Okay, okay, I understand.”
As soon as I set the plate on the table, Shione sat down and began to devour the snacks.
Munch, munch, munch.
Does she really enjoy it that much?
Like a squirrel afraid of losing her food, she stuffed her cheeks with the snacks, which was quite impressive.
If she eats like that, she’s bound to choke.
“I’ll go get the tea.”
Nod, nod.
I brought over the snacks and poured the tea into her cup that was already on the table.
The moment Shione had her tea poured, she snatched the cup and gulped it down.
“Ahh. I thought I was going to choke.”
“…Please take your time.”
“I’ll try my best.”
Anyone would think she was possessed by a glutton.
If other nobles saw this, they would have no words to say if they reprimanded her for not maintaining her dignity.
“Is it okay if I sit across from you?”
“Of course.”
Before sitting across from her, I prepared a cup of tea for myself as well.
I then sat down across from Shione and calmly watched her.
As I sent my gaze her way, she started to notice my attention while she was mindlessly devouring the snacks.
“It seems that you and the prince of the Payosha family will have some time to share tea and conversation like this.”
“…That’s true.”
“Then, let me share some things that men might like in this situation.”
“I’ll listen for now.”
Shione rested her chin on her hand, looking sulky as if she were displeased.
No matter how much she wanted to break off the engagement, the other party was a marquis.
There’s nothing wrong with trying to make a good impression.
It was quite troublesome for her to come out like this from the start.
What if she ends up falling for that fiancé at first sight?
Ignoring Shione’s feelings, I started to say what I needed to say.
“While sharing snacks, maintain a light smile. Also, don’t eat one as you’re doing now; only take one during the pauses in conversation.”
I smiled lightly.
Since I’m not someone who usually smiles much, Shione’s gaze stayed fixed on the corners of my mouth, probably surprised that I could make such a face.
She was likely thinking about how she never knew I could look like that.
I calmly accepted her gaze and, with a pause in our conversation, carefully picked up a cookie and put it in my mouth.
It must be a noble’s snack; it was definitely sweet and delicious.
As I quietly finished the cookie, I smiled and asked, “How is it? Simple, right?”
“…Oh? Yeah, it’s simple.”
“Ah, please wait a moment.”
As Shione stared at me, seemingly in a daze, I reached into the pocket of my servant’s uniform for a handkerchief.
I lifted my butt off the chair and leaned closer to Shione.
As my face got closer, Shione stiffened.
Her body was tense, but her pupils were shaking as if there had been an earthquake, unable to meet my gaze properly.
“Excuse me for a moment… you have some crumbs on your mouth.”
I gently wiped her mouth with the handkerchief.
Shione’s face turned bright red.
It seemed that this series of actions embarrassed her.
Regardless, I only smiled wider and spoke casually.
“It’s all clean now, my lady.”
I slowly distanced myself from Shione and returned to my own seat.
After lifting my cup to enjoy the aroma of the tea, I quietly savored it.
The tea had a sweet first taste and a bitter finish that kept drawing me in.
Clink.
As I gently set down the cup, I asked, “With this much, I believe you can handle it easily, right?”
“I-It’s impossible.”
“Hmm… Then how about we practice until you get accustomed to it? There are still plenty of snacks and tea left, so we can practice as many times as we need.”
Shione looked up at me, her face flushed, and after a few moments, she spoke in a voice so soft I could barely hear it.
“…Your distant ancestor isn’t an incubus, is he?”
“What?”
“Oh, never mind. Just forget I said anything.”
Cough.
Shione cleared her throat awkwardly for a moment before finally speaking.
“Right, you’re saying to smile moderately and act with some sense?”
“That’s correct.”
“If it’s just that… I think I can manage somehow.”
“Are you sure you won’t practice?”
“Um… I understand.”
Shione finally sighed as if she had come back to life.
Regardless, I couldn’t forget the surprisingly addictive taste of the tea, so I poured myself another cup.
The sweetness that continues endlessly, balanced by the bitter finish…
The bitter aftertaste provided a subtle charm that kept me drinking multiple times without tiring of the sweetness.
I liked this tea.
I thought I should drink it a bit more whenever Shione wasn’t around.
As I pondered about her fiancé, I grew tired. I think I’ll rest in bed for a bit, so you should take a break too.”
“Understood.”
Shione stood up first.
With my master rising, a servant like me couldn’t remain seated for long.
I also got up and followed her.
“Whoa…!”
Out of nowhere, Shione tripped over her own feet and began to lose her balance, falling toward me.
What kind of clumsy act is this? How can she trip over her own feet like that?
I chuckled softly as I caught her from behind.
“Are you alright?”
I asked while checking Shione’s expression, but it certainly didn’t look alright.
Her gaze was shaking madly.
And her face had turned red, possibly out of embarrassment.
Could it be that she was stressed about her fiancé, feeling dizzy, and fell over?
I placed my hand on her forehead.
“Lady Shione, you seem to have a bit of a fever… Are you okay?”
At my question, Shione lowered her head deeply.
“…Get out of the room.”
“Excuse me?”
“I said get out of the room.”
She quickly freed herself from my hold and dashed toward the bed.
She hadn’t acted like this in a while.
Shione buried herself under the covers like it was the first day I met her.
Watching her reaction quietly, I noticed her peeking out.
She was only showing her head.
With her flushed face, she shouted, “…Get out!!”
