Xiali held up the otherworld version of a smartphone and turned on the flashlight, illuminating the room.
Wang Ning instinctively let go of Boli’an’s arm.
“It’s good that you’re both safe.” Xiali let out a sigh of relief and added with concern, “There’s been an abnormality in the school’s power supply. That kind of thing almost never happens at Alice Academy.”
“Let’s just go to sleep for now. There’s not much we can do during a blackout anyway.”
Wang Ning walked silently back to her bed, lost in thought about the game’s storyline.
In the game, when the campus experienced a power outage, a series of embarrassing and heart-racing events would unfold among the girls in the dark.
At first, she thought this was just another girl’s love game that relied on “accidental” intimacy to drive emotional development.
But after unlocking multiple bad endings, she began to question whether this was really just a sweet and innocent yuri game.
Rather than focusing on idealized “pure love,” the story felt more like it was revealing the hidden tragedies behind each girl’s youth.
And now, in the world Wang Ning had transmigrated into, many elements didn’t match the original game—like beast-bloodline transformations or magi-tech technology.
A world fused with magic, science, and strange powers.
People here were real—living, breathing beings.
Could the game’s plot still be trusted?
Power returned to the dorm the next day.
“Good morning, Xiao!” Wang Ning greeted her brightly as they passed each other. “Did you know the power went out in the dorms last night?”
Xiao was still in uniform, but this one was different from the camouflage used during training.
The black and gold military attire outlined her slender frame.
The high collar hugged her pale neck.
Her dark red hair was tucked under a black military cap.
A gold insignia gleamed on her chest.
The sleeves were sharply pressed, and her black leather gloves only covered half her palms.
Her fingers hung like the spires of a cathedral ceiling.
“Mm,” she responded softly, lowering her gaze to the white-haired girl before her.
Today, Xiali had tied Wang Ning’s hair into two fluffy twin tails.
The blue bunny-shaped scrunchies shimmered like frost.
As they walked side by side, Wang Ning cautiously asked, “Do you know what caused the blackout yesterday?”
Xiao replied, “The academy’s power system was damaged. Last night, I went to investigate with a few colleagues and found traces of a demon gnawing through the wiring.”
Wang Ning’s eyes widened. “A demon? Inside the school?”
Thanks to her recent cram sessions, Wang Ning had learned a bit about this world’s basics.
The Abyssal Fiends—also known as Abyss Beasts—were humanity’s most ancient and persistent enemies, dating back to the beginning of recorded history.
Humans could never fully wipe them out, and fiends could never truly destroy humanity either.
Xiao frowned slightly. “Yes. The school has increased patrols and security. A military unit will be transferred from a nearby base to investigate further.”
“Is that why you’re wearing a different uniform today?” Wang Ning asked.
They were almost at the training grounds.
Just as they were about to arrive, Xiao suddenly stopped and turned to face her.
Wang Ning blinked in confusion. “What’s wrong?”
Xiao was silent for a moment, then quietly said, “I might have to leave for a while.”
Military training was already halfway through.
Wang Ning had spent the past half month as Xiao’s assistant, and now she was being told that they’d suddenly be separated.
She didn’t know what to say and blurted out, “Where are you going?”
Xiao looked down at her.
Then, without warning, she leaned down and gently embraced Wang Ning.
The dry scent of aged whiskey and the warmth of blooming roses surrounded her.
Xiao rested her forehead against Wang Ning’s.
Their eyes met—crimson and ocean blue.
Wang Ning froze, her eyes widening in shock at the sudden intimacy.
Xiao smiled.
It was the first time Wang Ning had seen her smile so openly.
“I’m glad I met you here at Alice Academy.”
“For the first time, I’m looking forward to waking up and seeing someone again.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll be back soon.”
No one would stop her.
Wang Ning stood there in a daze, trying to process those words.
Before she could respond, Xiao let go and handed her something from her waist.
Wang Ning looked down.
What the—why is she giving me a gun?!
I’m a law-abiding citizen!
Whatever melancholy she had instantly vanished as she scanned the area to make sure no one had witnessed this literal weapons deal.
Xiao said, “This is for your protection. Alice Academy’s defenses are acceptable, but accidents happen. Protect yourself.”
“The magazine is empty. I left the bullets in your dorm drawer.”
Wang Ning: Huh??
Xiao’s voice remained calm. “Relax. You’re legally allowed to carry it. I’ve already ‘discussed’ it with the proper people.”
Wang Ning: …
After parting ways with Xiao and returning to training, Wang Ning guiltily shoved the gun deep into her pocket.
That’s when she saw a new face—a replacement instructor.
This must be the new coach Xiao mentioned.
“Hello, Coach—uh, I mean, Instructor. I’m Assistant Instructor Wang Ning.”
“So you’re Instructor Wang Ning,” the new coach replied solemnly.
Wang Ning: “?”
“That’s right. Former Instructor Xiao informed me that you’ve received thorough training and experience at her side. I’ll be here to assist you in leading the rest of the military training.”
The previously quiet Class A exploded.
All eyes turned toward her, blinding her with their intense, worshipful gazes.
Class A students, in unison: Aaaaaah! The little angel is going to train us now!!
