The ending, it seemed, was already set in stone.
“We can’t delay any longer!”
Black forced down the unease in his heart.
He spoke quickly to Leon and Land.
“We’re going to Area A too!”
Without any further delay, the three of them pushed their speed to the absolute limit, rushing madly towards Area A.
Black prayed desperately in his heart, hoping that Kristine had not yet come into contact with that Phantom Dragon!
Meanwhile, deep within Area A.
The expressions on the faces of Kristine and the few students who had followed her were filled with despair.
They were surrounded.
Surrounding them were not dragons, but a group of new students with vacant eyes, white pupils, and wisps of black energy coiling around their bodies.
There were dozens of them.
Like puppets on strings, they held their weapons with stiff movements, but their killing intent was real.
These new students were closing in, step by step.
They had been controlled.
And behind this group of “puppets.”
A bizarrely shaped draconic creature stood quietly in the shadows of the trees.
It had a slender body covered in translucent, pitch-black scales that seemed to flicker in and out of sight in the light.
Three pairs of spiraling, ghostly blue horns grew from its head, the surface of which rippled with strange psychic waves.
Most terrifying were its six compound eyes, like crystal balls cut into prisms, each rotation reflecting a different distorted illusion.
Kristine’s pretty face was deathly pale, her heart heavy.
She recognized this type of dragon; she had read about it in the “Illustrated Guide to Draconic Species.”
This was a type of Demonic Dragon.
Its name was the Phantom Dragon, and it was extremely skilled in mental control.
This type of dragon was very rare, let alone one appearing in a human area.
She couldn’t understand why this dragon would appear in the academy’s back mountain examination area.
And to make matters worse, it was a Level 60 Phantom Dragon.
By the time they arrived in Area A, the situation had already spun out of control.
A large number of lower-level new students had already been controlled by the Phantom Dragon and turned into its puppets.
To add insult to injury, the other draconic creatures that had been released in Area A were attracted by the commotion.
They had gathered and were now treating them as prey.
The Phantom Dragon and its puppet students were in front, and a large number of low-level dragons were behind.
The proctoring teachers and Dragon-Slaying Guards originally in Area A had all been redeployed to the other four areas ahead of time.
Only a few student proctors were left.
But many of these student proctors were already injured.
Among them, Kristine found Black’s cousin, Brenna.
Fortunately, she wasn’t injured, which was a small relief.
They were attacked from both front and rear, and their hands were tied.
As the Saintess, she protected the injured students behind her, desperately trying to think of a way out.
Kristine took a deep breath, her eyes fixed on the distant Phantom Dragon.
She knew that if she went all out, there was a slight hope of defeating this Level 60 Phantom Dragon.
But.
The ones before her who were being controlled were all her juniors.
They were just being controlled; they were not the enemy.
If she attacked, what if she accidentally hurt them…
No, it should be said that she would inevitably hurt them!
The Phantom Dragon would most likely use these puppet students as human shields.
Using them to block her powerful spells.
Even Kristine couldn’t guarantee that she could control her spells with enough precision to change their trajectory in time.
She was well aware of her own strength.
If she used her full power, it wouldn’t just be accidental injury; there was a high probability she would kill these students.
If that happened, she would never be able to forgive herself!
Moreover, for some reason.
The moment she saw this Phantom Dragon and felt the cold, twisted psychic waves it emitted.
Kristine felt her heart palpitate and a wave of dizziness wash over her.
It was as if something inside her had been triggered and was stirring restlessly.
As if it wanted to break through some kind of restraint and burst forth from its shell, making her agitated and unable to concentrate.
Behind Kristine, Brenna sat slumped on the ground, her face as pale as paper.
As a proctor in Area A, she had witnessed the terrifying process of too many new students being turned into puppets.
Her mind was on the verge of collapse.
They had tried to call for help, but just before the Phantom Dragon appeared, emergency calls for aid had come from the other areas.
The proctoring teachers in Area A said that almost all the Dragon-Slaying Guards had been redeployed, and support was slow to arrive.
“Wuuu!”
Under the Phantom Dragon’s mental command, the puppets emitting black smoke and the draconic creatures on the periphery.
Attacked continuously like a tide.
Kristine and the few remaining students who could still fight could only erect defensive spells.
They were forced to retreat continuously.
Within the shrinking defensive circle lay many wounded who could not be moved.
They had no more room to retreat!
Watching those new students, now unrecognizable,扑ing forward like walking corpses.
A look of determination flashed in Kristine’s eyes.
She couldn’t wait any longer!
Even if it meant she might accidentally hurt them, she had to attack the Phantom Dragon’s main body, or everyone would die here.
She took a deep breath, preparing to cast a spell.
Just at that critical moment!
“Swish!”
A sharp sound of something tearing through the air descended from the sky!
A long spear, wreathed in a blood-colored aura, crashed down between Kristine and the puppets!
The powerful shockwave instantly sent the puppets at the front flying!
Immediately after, a figure landed steadily beside the long spear, his back to Kristine and the others.
Facing the countless puppets and the Phantom Dragon in the shadows, his powerful voice spread throughout the area.
“Everyone, stand back! The Dragon-Slaying Guard is taking over this battlefield!”
The newcomer was, of course, Black and his group.
Kristine, Brenna, and all the surviving students stared blankly at this savior-like figure.
Tears of relief after a narrow escape blurred their vision.
Black panted slightly. By moving at lightning speed, he had managed to arrive at the last possible moment.
‘Thank goodness I made it!’
Kristine hadn’t directly engaged the Phantom Dragon yet; she hadn’t gone berserk.
His gaze quickly swept across the scene.
He saw the new students who had been turned into puppets.
And the Phantom Dragon hidden in the shadows of the trees. His brow furrowed tightly.
But…
The situation was even worse than he had expected.
In the original plot, the Phantom Dragon’s main goal was to trigger the power within Kristine.
After controlling her, it didn’t control anyone else.
Now, because of his intervention, Kristine had arrived much later.
Having lost its primary target, the Phantom Dragon had instead used its mental control ability to manipulate a large number of new students.
These new students were all relatively low-level and found it difficult to resist the mental erosion.
This had formed a puppet army that made everyone hesitant to act.
Furthermore, there were various types of draconic creatures that had originally been released, watching from the periphery like tigers.
Although their levels were not high, their numbers were truly substantial.
Once they swarmed in, their power could not be underestimated.
Therefore, the current situation was extremely tricky!
“Hoo.”
Black quickly scanned the entire field, switching back to his player mode.
Relying on his game experience, he analyzed the combat strength of both sides.
The levels of various enemies flowed into his brain in a numerical format.
In an instant, a battle plan formed in his mind.
