An Ordinary and Uneventful Daily Life

Chapter 171,428 words12 min read

Allen was forcibly lulled into sleep by the rippling runes of the contract.

The time was not long, yet it made Allen feel extremely comfortable.

Indeed.

Ever since she had been captured and brought back, Allen had spent every day and night in fear.

From beginning to end, she could not understand what she had done wrong.

She had clearly been killed by a sword, yet she was dragged out of eternal sleep once more.

As a human, she had her own faith.

According to that faith, anyone involved with demons would be burned at the stake.

It was a taboo.

Not to mention that the one she was meant to serve was the Demon King feared by all.

None of this should have happened.

Running for her life.

She had not committed any unforgivable crimes.

She had only made anesthetics.

In truth, she had not harmed a single person.

Allen was not cold-hearted.

She could even be considered kind.

But the very existence of a hero and a demon king was a contradiction.

A struggle of life and death.

Unacceptable by natural law.

Thus, after her death, Allen became deeply afraid of the Demon King.

Afraid of the one who had slain countless heroic predecessors.

Although Allen vaguely understood that the Holy War itself was a hidden conspiracy, she still clung to her faith.

That faith was her duty as the Goddess’s representative.

Her companions had all been killed by the one she now served.

Yet she had to face this murderer with a smile.

Begging for a chance to survive.

This went completely against her values in life.

Allen was not unfamiliar with scenes of corpses strewn across the land.

But she had never seen bodies piled like mountains, forming seas of blood.

Every corpse had been pierced through by weapons.

Rotting, gaping wounds everywhere.

This was Lilith’s doing.

Those swordsmen and mages were crushed like ants beneath human feet.

Smashed into blood and flesh by Lilith’s weapons.

Because of this, once Allen truly understood Lilith’s terror, she would tremble uncontrollably whenever Lilith grew angry.

Each time, merely recalling such scenes made Allen feel nauseous.

This sleep.

Allen slept peacefully.

Even if it was only for one night.

In her dreams, she vaguely felt a tingling numbness around her tendons.

As if they had been reconnected.

Her vision also seemed to have partially recovered.

Although distant objects still looked as if wrapped in mist, she could at least see clearly now.

Had I recovered.

The thought instantly flooded Allen’s mind.

Using the bright spring sunlight outside, she hurriedly confirmed the condition of her body.

Unable to wait any longer, Allen quickly climbed out of bed.

Afraid of falling, she held onto the bedpost.

Carefully standing up.

Taking small, steady steps forward.

One step.

Another step.

Walking across the smooth teak floor.

This was truly walking.

Because she was barefoot, the cold of the floor was vividly transmitted to her soles.

Perhaps because Allen was overwhelmed by happiness at that moment, her legs suddenly gave way.

She knelt straight down onto the floor.

Tears fell uncontrollably onto the teak boards.

For Allen, this was no different from being reborn.

Light and shadow surrounded the small room.

Though distant things were still blurry, their colors were distinct.

Green was trees.

Blue was the sky.

Leaning against the bed, Allen began planning what to do next.

Go work for Lilith.

After two years, she could redeem herself.

Compared to the endless and timeless labor of before, this was incredibly tempting.

No need for constant scheming.

No need to worry about escape or survival.

Just do her job properly.

Stay for two years.

Then walk out of the Demon Castle openly.

It was too good to be true.

What if the Demon King tore up the contract.

Allen did not dare think about it.

With her current strength, even a thousand of her would not be able to harm Lilith in the slightest.

One step at a time.

Allen slowly walked to the wardrobe.

After washing up, changing clothes, and combing her hair according to memory, she put on her shoes.

Then she made her way toward the kitchen.

Although she could walk now, just as Lilith had said, her movements were strictly restricted to prevent escape.

Her tendons felt as fragile as ice.

As if they would snap with even slight force.

The pain was intense.

Because she had not exercised for a long time, her physical condition was even worse than before.

It was still early.

By past routine, the other two should still be asleep.

She was responsible for preparing breakfast now.

Because of her long absence, bread and meat supplies were already gone.

“Mhm.”

As expected, Luna had probably eaten them all.

The only ingredients left were eggs and milk purchased from the village.

Along with some potatoes acquired earlier.

She cracked the eggs into the frying pan.

Gently stirring them.

While frying the eggs, she boiled the potatoes over high heat.

Then mixed them with milk.

She mashed the potato and milk mixture with a spoon.

Added seasoning.

And slowly simmered it.

Breakfast being just fried eggs, mashed potatoes, and hot milk could not be helped.

After finishing everything, she estimated that the two of them should be waking up soon.

She went to the bath area to collect last night’s clothes.

Later, she would wash them by hand.

Once everything was ready, Lilith and Luna arrived at their seats right on time.

No one spoke during the meal.

Allen kept her head lowered as usual, seemingly lost in thought.

Lilith remained as cold and silent as ever.

Only Luna made strange sounds.

“Mmm. This is delicious.
Allen, if you don’t have an appetite, give me your portion.”

As always, Allen pushed her share toward Luna.

The atmosphere seemed strangely harmonious.

No.

Aside from the thick-skinned Luna, both Lilith and Allen understood.

There was an invisible wall between them.

Perhaps this was caused by the contradiction between hero and demon king.

After the two went off to do their own things, Allen began clearing the table as usual.

Just like always.

Unchanging.

“Please take good care of it.”

Luna said with a silly grin.

She was holding a strange dead animal.

The creature had fiery red fur.

Antlers like a deer.

But a head shaped like a horse.

“Amazing.
It’s a Crimson Flame Elk.”

Allen exclaimed sincerely.

Before dinner, Luna had brought the Crimson Flame Elk into the kitchen and handed it to Allen.

Crimson Flame Elk was a rare type of edible meat.

It usually lived in the middle to deep regions of monster forests.

Human hunters rarely reached its territory.

Thus, it was extremely difficult to capture.

The creature itself was pure.

Occasionally, a few would rush out of the forest.

Then crash into tree stumps.

That was the most common way humans ever caught them.

But for someone with Saint-level strength like Luna, capturing one was easy.

Because of its unique texture, elk meat was considered a rare delicacy.

Allen had only heard of it.

She had never tasted it before.

This was truly eye-opening.

“Alright.
I’ll prepare it properly.”

Allen took the elk with both hands.

She said firmly.

All day, Allen had been working absentmindedly.

Her eyes dull.

But now, a spark of spirit finally appeared in her gaze.

Luna smiled quietly to herself.

Though she did not know the exact method, Allen decided to cook it like a steak.

The result was surprisingly successful.

The aroma filled the entire kitchen.

“So good.
So good.”

Luna grabbed a steak and devoured it.

She had not eaten meat in a long time.

She was particularly obsessed with meat.

Naturally, she would not miss this chance.

On the other side, Lilith ate elegantly.

Cutting small pieces with knife and fork.

This time, Allen also ate with interest.

It was an ingredient she had never encountered before.

After eating and drinking their fill, Luna and Lilith went to the bath.

Allen cleaned the dishes.

Washed all the tableware.

Cleaned the floor.

Then headed toward the bath as well.

Perhaps afraid that Allen might slip away under cover of darkness, the lights in the Demon Castle were never turned off at night.

Especially since Allen’s vision worsened in darkness.

The bath was empty.

She had just missed Lilith and Luna.

She tied her silver-white long hair up.

Slowly submerged herself into the warm water.

Relaxing her body, exhausted from a full day of work.
