Chapter 17: I found my aim master

Cretaceous Carnage, or CreWar for short.

It was a game created based on the human vs. dinosaur trope commonly found online.

‘There was a similar game in my past life too.’

After researching beforehand, this game was similar to that game from my past life.

Players are divided into dinosaur vs. human factions and engage in combat.

In the standard deathmatch mode, the team that kills the most enemies within the time limit and accumulates the highest score wins, a simple system.

-Totally didn’t expect this.

-Right…

-Totally thought they’d play something like Battle Field

-But wasn’t this game dead?

-It’s still around

-The remaster got canceled last time, but they kept servicing the original one

-Is it because we always see the same games?

-First time seeing this game, kinda like it.

Perhaps due to the appearance of an unexpected game, the chat window began to stir.

If asked to pick the most popular game on Live Stream, one could typically name traditional FPS games like Battle Field or AOS games like Rogue of Legends.

Most had good quality and large fan bases, making them good games for attracting initial popularity.

‘Honestly, if I had my way, I’d want to play those too…’

Unfortunately, my computer didn’t have the specs to handle them.

The moment I download and run the game, the monitor would probably crash.

So I hastily ordered a gaming computer online, but it would take several weeks to arrive here.

Since I couldn’t just communicate without playing games during that time, I started looking for a game that could run on my computer while having decent quality.

And the result I found was this one.

‘The price is reasonable, and if I play as the human team, I can practice aiming too.’

After launching the game, I picked a global server that looked reasonably decent and entered.

The human faction already had 5 members, and the dinosaur team was short one person.

“This means I’m automatically on the dinosaur team.”

Well, the factions change automatically after one round ends anyway, so it probably doesn’t matter.

Ren immediately connected to the server.

Tat-tang!

Tang-!

Thud-

Along with the ear-splitting gunshot sound, a green velociraptor sprawled onto the ground.

[You Died]

“Aaaargh!!! F*ck!!”

Black letters appeared instantly on the red screen.

The black-haired man visible on camera spat out a curse.

-This is the flavor of gaming

-But the leaders this round are really bad at leading lolol

The chat window filled with glee at his anger.

Switch streamer Solnamu, with 340,000 followers, real name Han Sol.

He was currently struggling due to encountering trolls on the server he joined.

-Bamnamu-nim [1000 Won Donation] “But honestly, the leader just now was bad”

“Ah, seriously, I only get weird people as leaders-!”

Solnamu spoke as if waiting for the message that came with the donation.

If the leader of the human team was the commander, then what could be called the leaders of the dinosaur team were naturally the large theropods.

Their role was to block attacks aimed at allies with their huge bodies and immense health, and to disrupt the enemy’s formation with overwhelming power.

Given the characteristic of dinosaurs dying surprisingly easily when focused by firearms, they, who block enemy attacks, are arguably more crucial to the team than the human side’s commander.

‘But why are they all only trolls…!’

Controlling large dinosaurs wasn’t particularly difficult either.

Just stand at the forefront with allies, charge into the enemy lines, and use support skills if someone seems about to die.

“Ah, aaaah!”

“You shouldn’t back out here!!!”

Solnamu shouted, seeing the Tyrannosaurus immediately U-turn after being focused by humans.

The current location was Area 7.

Thanks to the rapid-fire cannon placed in the corner of the wreckage, this area was notoriously advantageous for the human side.

Here, it was more beneficial to drive them out before the rapid-fire cannon could be repaired enough to activate, even if the leader died.

“Hey!!”

“Just ditch the T-rex and bring a Spino!”

“You damn bastard!”

[Defeat!]

Ultimately, thanks to the barrage from the rapid-fire cannon of the humans resisting using terrain, the round ended in the dinosaurs’ defeat.

-Oof, this is kinda…

-Who recommended this lolol

-There was a reason for the 150k won bounty lol

“Hoo…. Starting the next round.”

Nevertheless, he had no choice but to start the game once more.

The reason was simple.

The 150,000 won mission hanging right above.

The amount he would receive if he won the game without dying even once.

The viewer who set that mission probably wanted to see him suffer.

“This won’t do.”

“Hey, if I meet trolls this round too, I’m just quitting the game.”

-lolol Sol Sol finally mad

-Throwing away 150k??

-Throwing away?

-Means he’s that f*cking pissed.

Solnamu suppressed his anger and started matchmaking again.

The match was found immediately with the newly joined members.

“Ah f*ck, dinosaurs again this time.”

Han Sol cursed, annoyed once the faction placement was done.

Having met so many trolls, he now just wanted to play as the human team, shooting guns.

Well, since it’s assigned, can’t be helped.

While checking ally info to also check teammates’ ranks, something caught his eye.

“Name is… Cheongha?”

“What, like the alcohol?”

Amidst the nicknames rampant with English, it was the appearance of the only nickname readable as Korean.

-What?

-Korean?

-Someone actually plays this…

-Didn’t the Korean server close down?

-How many users worldwide, meeting a compatriot here…

“Ah, but that one’s a beginner.”

Solnamu muttered, seeing the egg icon next to the nickname.

The meaning of the egg shape was ‘fertilized egg’.

Given the game’s characteristic of ranking up relatively quickly, still having the fertilized egg tag meant they were a beginner who just started the game.

‘Damn this shitty trash game…’

To assign the leader role to such a beginner, of all things.

If he had his way, he’d just want to leave the room, but he couldn’t.

‘Haven’t gotten a proper video angle yet…’

There’s a limit to watching someone suffer because of trolls.

Would a video of him constantly meeting trolls, unable to play properly, and just getting angry really be fun?

Perhaps the only silver lining was that, unlike before, this round was deathmatch mode.

Ignoring Solnamu’s miserable mood, the round began.

“Let’s just break through quickly this time.”

This time, he chose Carnotaurus.

It has a small hit area when charging head-on, and its speed and specs are decent for its size, making it one of the frequently used dinosaurs.

“Ugh, those bastards.”

“There they are.”

While roaming around like that, Solnamu spotted several humans gathered in the distance.

Since the game just started, they shouldn’t have much ammo!

The Carnotaurus Solnamu chose plunged into the midst of the humans before him.

“Yes, just die~”

Just as his Carnotaurus was rampaging.

Fwoosh-

A scorching stream of fire suddenly erupted from among the humans.

“Ah f*ck?!?!”

“Molotov?!”

Solnamu quickly turned the screen, and a human holding a flame thrower came into view.

The continuous damage from burns was notoriously powerful.

He charged in thinking the enemies had little ammo, but to think they’d have a flame thrower, of all things.

“Ah crap…”

“I’m dead”

Just as Solnamu felt death approaching.

Kuhooo-

Kwohuuung-!

A roar like a collapsing sound echoed, and instantly, the Carnotaurus’s health bar began to fill up.

“….Oh, this leader is pretty good?”

The carnivorous dinosaurs that could be called the leaders of the dinosaur team could activate their unique special abilities through roars.

Tyrannosaurus increases allies’ attack power, Spinosaurus increases defense.

And finally, Carcharodontosaurus.

The last one had smaller stats and lower attack power compared to the other two, but it was armed with a broken skill that provided continuous health regeneration for allies within range.

“Wah f*ck!!”

“Saved!!”

Ultimately, Solnamu’s Carnotaurus managed to escape the infamous flamethrower and return to the pack.

-Wow saved from that holy sh*t

-Timing that skill is damn tricky

-Maybe because only trolls came out until now

-Rank is low but seems skilled?

-At that level, aren’t the previous guys smurfs lolol

“Alright, going back in.”

Han Sol waited until his health was fully replenished and charged towards the human faction once again.

The matchup between flamethrower soldiers and breakthrough units could be expressed in one phrase.

Whoever hits first wins!

Thwack-

His Carnotaurus rammed while the flamethrower was reloading.

The flamethrower, sent flying after being hit by the charging dinosaur, soon ended up in the Acrocanthosaurus’s mouth.

This should be sufficient repayment.

Seeing the emoticon pop up above the leader’s head after instantly gobbling up the flamethrower, it seemed they liked the return gift.

“Alright, let’s keep this momentum going.”

With the dream of 150,000 won approaching before his eyes, Solnamu’s mood improved.

[Win!]

The victory sign appeared on the screen.

“The controls feel better than I thought.”

Being a relatively cheap indie game, the graphics couldn’t be called good, but the controls, the overall control scheme, were similar to simulation games I played in my past life.

-Host is sniffling well lolol

-Won the round despite being the first time

-Host did save teammates and lead well this time

“Well, it wasn’t just me who did well.”

“It’s because the teammates followed.”

During idol activities, just Sion and I managed the group.

Among those, the tasks that Sion, being male, couldn’t do were all managed by me.

Of course, playing the leader role in a game is different, but my old habits slipped out while chatting without realizing.

Besides, no matter how well I did, we would have lost if everyone hadn’t followed my lead.

This wasn’t an achievement I accomplished alone.

[Soltree sent you a friend request]

While chatting with the chat window.

A message appeared at the top of the game screen.

“Soltree…”

“Ah, the Carno user from earlier.”

I remembered them as they were the first person I healed while playing this game.

They also controlled well during the last team fight.

Unlike my calm reaction, the chat window began to burn up.

-Is that Solnamu?

-ID is the same.

-Oh, seems like it fr?

-Checked Switch, it’s really Solnamu??? lol

-Suspected when I saw the ID earlier, guess he got stuck with a trash game mission..

“Solnamu…?”

“Who’s that?”

It was a name I hadn’t heard in either my past or current life.

Seeing the recognition reactions in chat, they seem to be a somewhat famous person.

-Battle Field pro gamer and streamer

-Should be quite a veteran on Switch, but doesn’t know this lol

“Ah, seems like they’re famous?”

Listening to the explanation in the chat window, they were said to be a very famous pro gamer.

I wasn’t very interested in that industry, so I didn’t know well.

‘Well, anyway.’

‘There’s no reason for me to refuse.’

An FPS game pro gamer would surely be highly skilled.

They could be the best teacher for me, who needs to improve my aiming ability.

Ren immediately pressed the accept button.

When someone good at shooting asks to play together, there was no reason to refuse.

If asked to pick the most popular game on Live Stream, one could typically name traditional FPS games like Battle Field or AOS games like Rogue of Legends. <- Non-gamers could use a TL Note explaining what “FPS” and “AOS” mean here.

If the leader of the human team was the commander, then what could be called the leaders of the dinosaur team were naturally the large theropods. <- Could use a TL Note explaining what a theropod is or looks like.

“Ah, aaaah!” <- Solnamu
“You shouldn’t back out here!!!” <- Still Solnamu? If so, then these two lines should be combined.

“Hey!!” <- Solnamu
“Just ditch the T-rex and bring a Spino!” <- Still Solnamu?
“You damn bastard!” <- Still more Solnamu? If these were made during the same breath, then they should be combined. However, if these three lines were made at different times during the game then these lines need to be separated MORE, with a spacing line between each to show that.
