The Priceless Account and the Peculiar Stream

Chapter 17750 words7 min read

“That’s not a problem, but can you really do it?” Bai Wanwan set down her instant noodles, her gaze scrutinizing Liu Hanzhi with a hint of skepticism. Liu Hanzhi possessed an excellent figure and striking beauty, exuding the aura of a sophisticated older sister. If she were to stream, her looks would undoubtedly pass muster. However, the streaming industry had become incredibly competitive. While good looks might have been a significant advantage in the past, streamers now needed either exceptional skills, unique talents, eccentric performances, or… well, that last option ventured into legal territory. In short, for today’s viewers, appearance was no longer the primary draw. Furthermore, the products they intended to promote were utterly preposterous: a stunning red-haired *yujie* selling funeral supplies… Even a dog would shake its head at such a niche.

“Of course I can! While I haven’t streamed myself, I’ve watched plenty. What do you think I do when I’m bored?” Liu Hanzhi spoke with unwavering confidence. After all, her streaming platform account had been meticulously cultivated; reaching the level where her comments appeared in red across every stream required not only spending money but also significant online hours. Was there any streamer she hadn’t seen? Any style she hadn’t observed?

“Then give it a try,” Bai Wanwan conceded, glancing at her own account. She pondered whether Liu Hanzhi should use her established account to stream. After all, her own was merely a ‘blank slate,’ starting from scratch, and had only gained eight followers after the last broadcast. She suspected those eight had likely been drawn by her face, enduring a certain discomfort just to click ‘follow.’ Liu Hanzhi’s account, being consistently active, would at least bring in some traffic from the streamers she had previously supported.

However, when Bai Wanwan presented this idea to Liu Hanzhi, the latter gently shook her head.

“No, that won’t work. This kind of streaming content is strictly regulated. Only accounts with activated permissions can initiate such broadcasts.”

“It’s like the operating rights for funeral supplies—the application channels have already been closed. So, in another sense, your account is priceless.”

While Bai Wanwan’s account might be a blank slate, it possessed a whitelist for niche streaming categories like folk customs and funeral supplies. Any other streamer attempting such content would undoubtedly be banned within a second, yet Bai Wanwan remained unrestricted. This, in essence, was a form of monopoly.

Of course, if this were the ‘lifestyle’ category, its value would be immense. After all, Bai Wanwan would be the only one across the entire network capable of a full suite of content: reading comments, ‘don’t laugh’ challenges, ‘mooch a meal’ challenges, even ‘depression’ streams… She would undoubtedly be raking in a fortune! Alas, this was the folk customs category.

Moreover, because this particular niche was rather ‘ominous,’ the allowed streaming hours were equally unsettling: only from eleven at night until three in the morning.

“In any case, once you’ve eaten, start folding the paper figurines. We’ll try it out tonight.” Liu Hanzhi said, her eyes fixed longingly on the bundle of incense sticks on the table. After brainstorming for so long, she was ravenous.

Bai Wanwan wasted no time. She casually pulled out a stick, lit it, and placed it in the incense burner for Liu Hanzhi.

Liu Hanzhi inhaled greedily, but the smoke caught in her throat before she could recover, sending her into a fit of violent coughing.

“Cough, cough, cough! What kind of incense is this? It’s so harsh on the throat…”

“It’s this or nothing. Take it or leave it, otherwise I’m putting it out.” Bai Wanwan declared, making to extinguish the incense. But how could Liu Hanzhi allow that? Even if it was harsh on her throat, it was surely better than starving!

As Liu Hanzhi watched the incense slowly burn, she silently resolved to put Bai Wanwan’s debts aside for a moment. Her own stomach, at least, deserved some consideration. She needed to earn some money first, enough to get herself some decent incense to nourish her. She felt she simply couldn’t endure this throat-burning stuff every day.

Of course, if she could earn a bit more, treating Bai Wanwan to some good food wouldn’t be out of the question either. Seeing how thin she was, if anything happened to her health, Liu Hanzhi’s own plans for reincarnation would be utterly ruined!
