Violet should have been recuperating at the manor, but there were too many things happening on her territory this spring.
Alone in her office, she massaged her temples after finishing some of her official duties.
That Little Milk Dragon still knew to send her messages via magic crystal yesterday, but today, apart from a groggy nuzzle in the morning, she hadn’t heard from her at all.
Violet’s dark-gold eyes instantly turned into cold, vertical pupils.
Perhaps Long Ling wasn’t as soft and gentle as she seemed, but was using a disguised means of compromise to make her lower her guard.
Her leg was injured and numb, so she couldn’t give Long Ling the joy of tail-entwining, so Long Ling’s longing only existed in words.
Even though there was a way to contact her at home, Long Ling hadn’t bothered to greet her.
A few traces of coldness couldn’t help but flash in Violet’s eyes.
The more she thought about it, the more her injured leg began to throb faintly, and even her glands felt empty.
Is the body that has tasted Alpha pheromones so easily parched?
When she returned, no matter how fawning Long Ling was, she would let that Little Milk Dragon know the price of angering her.
Suddenly, a crisp knock sounded at the office door.
Without even looking up, Violet said coldly, “Enter.”
A very elegant and beautiful woman walked in behind the door, wearing a dark-green long dress, walking on the pearl-white floor.
“Look who’s angered our Duchess to this state?”
Violet still didn’t have a good look on her face when she saw her cousin, Crown Princess Lorraine.
“You’re not in the royal city. What are you doing here?”
“His Majesty asked me to do something, so I came to see you along the way.”
Lorraine found a comfortable spot to sit down, tossed her long hair behind her ear, took a slender cigarette from a cigarette case, elegantly held it between her fingers, and lit it.
“How has your health been lately? I heard the old lady in your family found you a young Alpha.
She’s a beauty from the Arnold family. Can she serve you well?”
Violet glanced at her coldly. “Smoking is not allowed here.”
Lorraine chuckled, put out the cigarette in her hand, and flicked it into the nearby trash can.
“You always have the most rules here. I’ll listen to you. Tell me about your Little Alpha.
I heard she’s a young dragon who just came of age. Is she a Little Green Dragon or a Little Black Dragon?”
Violet picked up a stack of new files to review the laws that needed to be revised next.
“If you have a lot of free time, I’ll inform His Majesty of your current location.”
“How stingy, hiding her like a treasure. Is she some kind of ultimate beauty?”
Lorraine teased Violet while leaning lazily on the soft sofa.
“Don’t tell His Majesty, Violet. I finally have some peace and quiet.
If His Majesty finds out, that little girl Beverly will definitely know too, and she’ll follow me here and make a racket.”
Violet thought of that annoying Alpha who hadn’t contacted her all day.
What treasure? She was clearly sent by heaven to bring her trouble.
With another person in the office who kept chattering, Violet frowned.
She didn’t welcome anyone invading her territory at will.
Violet raised her chin slightly and issued a cold and arrogant eviction order.
“When are you leaving?”
Lorraine complained softly, “Violet, don’t always be so cold. You’re not welcoming to a cousin who’s traveled all this way.
You don’t think I’m here to disturb the sweet life of you and your Little Alpha, do you?”
Violet glanced at her noncommittally.
Her cold and beautiful face didn’t show the slightest emotion.
Lorraine found her visit uninteresting.
She had originally come to check on Violet’s condition, but now she suddenly changed her mind.
She wanted to see what the Alpha that Violet was protecting so closely looked like.
Long Ling arrived at Gris Harbor in the evening, riding in a carriage.
She was afraid she would arrive too late and miss Violet’s office hours.
“Miss, you can’t go in. The front is the Hall of Governance where Duchess Violet is located. Only staff members can go there.”
The guard raised a cold, sharp sword, stopping Long Ling outside the Hall of Governance.
Yuer quickly said, “This is Miss Long Ling, Duchess Violet’s fiancée!”
The two guards exchanged glances, withdrew their swords, but stood in front of Long Ling as dutifully as two iron mountains.
“Please show your credentials to cooperate with our work.”
Besides a handkerchief she got from Miss Evil Dragon, Long Ling had no other token to prove that she was related to Miss Evil Dragon.
Miss Evil Dragon’s handkerchief was now in her dress, close to her body.
In her world, this belonged to a woman’s private possessions.
Long Ling liked the scent of roses on the handkerchief and shamelessly claimed it for herself, but there was no way she could show such a thing to these guards.
Just as Long Ling and the guards were deadlocked, Yuer thought of a solution and quietly walked to Long Ling’s side, pointing to the violet emblem engraved on the carriage.
Long Ling immediately understood and said to the guards, “This is the family crest of Duchess Violet’s family. You should recognize it.”
The black carriage was simple and low-key, unlike the luxurious carriage Violet usually rode, and it didn’t have a large number of guards beside it, only a coachman.
But the guards’ expressions changed when they saw the gold violet emblem inlaid on the carriage.
They immediately bowed to Long Ling and asked her to forgive their fault.
It really wasn’t their fault. The future duchess was too different from Duchess Violet in style.
Every morning, before Duchess Violet’s gorgeous carriage arrived, the guard captain only had to see the light of the purple gem on the roof of the carriage from afar to notify everyone to open all the gates of the Hall of Governance.
Anyone who was a little slow would be scolded by the head guard.
A guard once had an arm broken on the spot by a dragon guard beside Duchess Violet for being lazy.
In short, it was impossible to associate the violent Duchess Violet with the gentle and sweet future duchess in front of them.
Long Ling didn’t entangle with these guards too much.
She was looking forward to seeing Miss Evil Dragon, so she walked towards the Hall of Governance after passing through the guards’ checkpoint.
The guard captain accompanied her personally, sending her to the governor’s office.
When Long Ling walked into the splendidly decorated Hall of Governance, it was filled with a solemn and cold light.
The staff coming and going were all in formal attire, carrying documents and walking hurriedly.
Long Ling realized that she had acted impulsively and had come to a very important place.
She usually didn’t feel anything when she was with Miss Evil Dragon at home, but suddenly coming here was like going to the Zichen Hall in the palace, as if she was going to meet the Emperor.
But since she was already here, she had been an imperial chef in the palace and had seen all kinds of storms.
Long Ling clenched her fists, puffed out her chest, pretended to be knowledgeable, and looked straight ahead.
Before long, the guard captain brought her to the governor’s office.
The door of the office was tightly closed.
The guard captain made a gesture to her.
Long Ling suddenly collapsed, thinking that waiting outside the door was also pretty good.
Although it was a bit cowardly, it was quite safe.
A true warrior always goes against the current!
Long Ling took a deep breath and slowly walked to the door.
Just as she mustered up the courage to raise her hand and knock on the door, she suddenly heard the voices coming from inside.
“How does that young Alpha dragon taste?”
“Violet, are you treating her like a darling now? I won’t leave today if you don’t tell me.”
Long Ling’s heart couldn’t help but thump.
She pricked up her ears and pressed them against the door.
