“Xi Xue?” Lan Ruobing called out tentatively.
Xi Xue turned her head away, presenting Lan Ruobing with a silent back.
“…”
Lan Ruobing was a little confused.
Hadn’t she just been consoling Xi Xue?
How had the tables turned so that she was now the one doing the comforting?
Sighing softly, she said, “I’m sorry, I really was angry.”
Xi Xue remained motionless.
Lan Ruobing continued, “Our posture and actions just now were too strange, causing people in the restaurant to misunderstand…”
Xi Xue’s ears twitched, but she still kept her back to Lan Ruobing.
Lan Ruobing took a deep breath.
“Of course, that posture was unavoidable. My anger wasn’t because the posture was strange… I was angry because the actions were strange, leading to everyone’s misunderstanding.”
“What was strange about our actions? What does your anger have to do with that?”
Xi Xue finally responded, though she remained stubbornly turned away.
‘What was strange?’
Lan Ruobing’s mouth twitched.
To be fair, those actions were indeed unintentional on Xi Xue’s part, but they were so bold that Lan Ruobing had even wondered if Xi Xue was doing it on purpose.
Had she not been so confident in her understanding of Xi Xue’s character, she would have long since thrown in the towel.
“Our posture itself invited misunderstanding,” Lan Ruobing explained.
“But that’s not the main point. The main point is that I later took out water, and I was angry because of that…”
As she spoke of the water, her voice grew much softer, and her face flushed crimson.
“What about the water? Wasn’t that tears? What does that have to do with your anger?” Xi Xue asked, as if utterly naive to the ways of the world.
“Uh… the water made them think we were… cough, cough, cough. I mean,” Lan Ruobing felt she needed to explain more clearly, “they thought I had scooped the water from between your legs.”
“Between my legs?” Xi Xue tilted her head, innocently glancing at the hem of her skirt between her thighs. “Scooped?”
Her face rapidly turned red.
“You… you mean…” Xi Xue turned around, her eyes wide with disbelief.
“Yes,” Lan Ruobing confirmed with a nod.
“I’m sorry, I ruined your reputation.” Xi Xue bowed her head, her voice as faint as a mosquito’s buzz, her face scarlet.
“It’s alright,” Lan Ruobing chuckled softly.
“You didn’t mean to, so it’s not your fault. I’m the one who should apologize for taking my anger out on you. I’m sorry.”
“It’s nothing,” Xi Xue finally smiled.
“I thought I had done something to genuinely upset you. It’s just a small matter, no need to mind it.”
Lan Ruobing nodded gratefully.
“Don’t worry, I’ll suppress the rumors,” Xi Xue declared, patting her chest.
“At the very least, I can guarantee that no articles or videos about us will appear online.”
Lan Ruobing’s eyes brightened. “Really?”
“Of course,” Xi Xue said with full confidence.
“My family has people specifically dedicated to handling these kinds of matters.”
Lan Ruobing let out a long sigh of relief, patting her own chest.
“That’s wonderful! I was worried for ages, hahaha—Mmh…?”
Two pieces of gum were placed into her mouth.
On her lips, Xi Xue’s two fingers gently pressed, feeling somewhat cool.
“I didn’t make it clear before, but this is something good friends often do. Ruobing, we’re good friends now, right?”
“Yes. We’re already wet.” Lan Ruobing chewed twice, then swallowed the gum.
Mmh… delicious.
The gum suddenly tasted much better, cool and sweet, refreshing her mind.
“Two more, please.” Lan Ruobing’s eyebrows curved, revealing her clean, white teeth.
“Alright,” Xi Xue said with a smile, a glint flashing in her eyes.
‘Just as I thought, she still let me feed her. Everything is under control.’
