“Qing Bai should stack all buffs, then use ‘Mana Recharge’ to fully restore her mana. After that, Tian Jiu will cast healing spells on Qing Bai until her own mana is depleted!”
Despite the Black Dragon startling Qing Bai moments ago, it maintained the commendable trait of an outdoor boss: it wouldn’t generate aggro unless players actively attacked it, thus granting the group ample preparation time.
No sooner had Yan finished his instructions than Qing Bai and Tian Jiu sprang into action.
“Divine Speed!”
“High-Speed Chant Domain!”
“Battle Instinct!”
“Spirit Demon Chant!”
“Mana Recharge!”…
Qing Bai stacked every beneficial buff upon herself, then utilized Mana Recharge to fully replenish her mana.
Immediately thereafter, she produced a magic potion, closing her eyes with a solemn expression.
“It’s just one potion! This young lady will drink it!”
Mustering the courage of a warrior severing their own limb, she closed her eyes and gulped down the magic potion.
“Ugh… Mmm!”
As expected, a psychological resistance lingered, yet Qing Bai forcibly suppressed the nausea, giving Yan and the others a thumbs-up.
“Holy Light Blessing!”
“Divine Bestowment.”
“Healing Spell.”
“Wood Spirit Art.”
“Sacred Domain.”…
Following Yan’s command, Tian Jiu unleashed all of her healing abilities upon Qing Bai, continuing until her own mana pool was entirely depleted.
Yan lifted his gaze to the party list, observing that beneath Qing Bai’s green HP bar, a yellow energy bar had appeared, almost perfectly level with her health.
With Tian Jiu’s ‘Over-Healing’ (TL Note: A skill that allows for excess healing to be stored as an energy bar) – a truly bug-level companion skill – Yan honestly felt that no outdoor boss was unbeatable.
At worst, before the fight, Tian Jiu could cast healing spells multiple times, stacking an incredibly long energy bar.
Once combat began, they would replenish health as it dropped and restore mana using the stored energy; how could they possibly fail?
‘Still, for this particular boss, one round of healing skills should suffice…’
Lost in thought, Yan turned to face Tian Jiu.
“Alright, restore your mana completely.”
He then looked back at the Black Dragon.
“Qing Bai, initiate the attack. Be mindful of your positioning and dodge; this boss’s offensive skills are all area-of-effect and can be evaded through movement.”
“Understood.”
Qing Bai nodded, her grimoire already activated, its pages flipping mid-air as streams of air condensed upon them.
“Wind Blade! Wind Blade! Wind Blade!”
Three Wind Blades, like arrows loosed from a bowstring, streaked towards the Black Dragon in the sky, all striking its head with pinpoint accuracy.
“[1631 (Critical Hit)]”
“[1520]”
“[1748 (Critical Hit)]”
“Oh, wow, this one’s got really good luck.”
Yan chuckled, remarking to Alice.
After all, Qing Bai was a Dexterity Mage who primarily focused on agility, and spell critical hit rates typically increased with intelligence points.
“No, Young Miss isn’t just lucky.”
Alice, however, refuted his assertion.
“It’s her skill.”
“Eh?”
Yan was somewhat perplexed.
“The Wind Blade skill inherently possesses a 20% critical hit chance; if cast individually, each instance would only have a one-in-five chance of critting.”
“However, Young Miss conjured three Wind Blades within a second, releasing them almost simultaneously.
The system automatically determined that the effects of these three Wind Blades stacked, increasing the critical hit chance from 20% to 60%.”
Alice smiled, slowly explaining to Yan.
“Oh, I see, so that’s how it is.”
Yan nodded in sudden realization.
He had always believed that Dexterity Mages couldn’t match Intelligence Mages of the same level in terms of damage output, yet he never imagined that rapidly channeling multiple spells of the same type by virtue of chanting speed could allow their effects to stack.
Considering this, then…
‘Top-tier Dexterity Mages might actually deal significantly more damage than top-tier Intelligence Mages!?’
“Don’t forget that many grand and special spells have cooldowns.
Even a Dexterity Mage cannot multi-chant forbidden spells.”
Alice seemed to understand Yan’s thoughts, reminding him thus.
‘That’s true as well…’
Yan nodded, then abruptly realized something was amiss.
“Wait, Alice, what is multi-chanting?”
He looked at Alice with astonished eyes.
“Could it be that Qing Bai repeatedly chanting the same skill to produce special effects is an official game mechanic?
Is this what ‘multi-chanting’ refers to?”
“Blegh.”
Alice seemed to realize she had let something slip, playfully sticking out her tongue in an attempt to charm her way out of it.
“Stare…”
Yan fixated his gaze on Alice, who then realized she couldn’t simply bluff her way through, and reluctantly spoke.
“That’s right.
All Tier 3 and below spells without cooldowns will trigger multi-chanting when a player’s chanting speed reaches certain thresholds.
The effects of skills cast through multi-chanting will stack.”
“2400 chanting speed is the first threshold.
Qing Bai can currently perform multi-chanting for Tier 1 cooldown-free skills like ‘Wind Blade,’ with the current number of multi-chanted skills being 3, which can increase as chanting speed rises.”
‘So powerful!’
‘Dexterity Mages actually possess such an unknown advantage.
No wonder Alice wanted to conceal it; if Yan knew this information, he would be psychologically prepared when facing Dexterity Mages in the future.’
‘At the very least, he wouldn’t be instantly killed by three sudden critical Wind Blades…’
Yan was astonished, his eyes wide with surprise as he watched Qing Bai engaging the Black Dragon.
Qing Bai deftly dodged the boss’s skills, seizing opportunities to unleash multi-chanted abilities that whittled down the boss’s health.
Her Dexterity attribute points, equivalent to Agility points, also granted her a movement speed comparable to approximately 300 Agility, making it incredibly easy to evade the boss’s area-of-effect skills.
“Multi-Wind Blade!”
“Multi-Flame Bullet!”
“Multi-Ice Lance!”
Qing Bai attacked rapidly, dazzling skills condensing swiftly in the air, streaking across the sky like shooting stars, striking the Black Dragon’s body.
As the Black Dragon’s health bar dipped to half, the excitement in Qing Bai’s eyes intensified, and her combat style grew more aggressive.
Soon, the entire energy bar Tian Jiu had provided was converted into mana, and as Qing Bai’s frenzied assault continued, the energy bar vanished completely.
“Stone Burst Bomb!”
Qing Bai raised her grimoire, poised to activate a skill, but no Stone Burst Bomb materialized before her.
It was then that she realized her mana bar was completely depleted.
“Tch.”
In the heat of battle, encountering a mana depletion left Qing Bai somewhat disheartened, and she clicked her tongue.
She twisted her body, evading the dragon’s claw that lunged from behind, and swiftly began channeling “Mana Recharge,” hoping to fully restore her mana during the Black Dragon’s brief post-skill animation.
Unfortunately, compared to her other offensive spells that could be multi-chanted instantly, “Mana Recharge”—a recovery spell—required a longer channeling duration.
White light, emblematic of magic, surged around Qing Bai, a harbinger of the impending completion of “recharge.”
Regrettably, the Black Dragon’s post-skill animation had already concluded; it opened its massive maw and spewed a torrent of flames, instantly engulfing Qing Bai.
The flickering flames did not instantly kill Qing Bai, but the fire spread over her body, continuing to burn fiercely.
Qing Bai furrowed her brow; she had, in fact, mentally prepared herself to endure one skill before “Mana Recharge” completed, yet she had never anticipated being hit by the very skill she least wanted to take.
Qing Bai’s health steadily dwindled with the burning flames on her body.
The ‘Burn’ effect caused the afflicted target to continuously lose health for 30 seconds.
While the total health loss wasn’t excessively high, for a squishy mage like Qing Bai, it was enough to kill her twice over.
“Tian Jiu, quickly use ‘Dispel’ on Young Miss Qing Bai.”
It was Alice who spoke, standing beside Yan and also watching Qing Bai enveloped in flames.
Seeing the situation, she hastily reminded Tian Jiu, who had just been preparing to use a healing skill.
“Ah? Understood!”
Qing Bai reacted, nodding her head.
She raised her long staff, and its tip glowed with a sacred white light.
“Dispel!”
The holy radiance enveloped Qing Bai; the flickering flames on her body quickly dissipated, and the ‘Burn’ status was removed.
This was the Priest’s “Dispel” skill, capable of removing most negative effects.
“Qing Bai, continue your damage output and maintain aggro.
Tian Jiu, keep healing Qing Bai.
If your mana runs out, use ‘Mana Recharge’ to fill it up, then keep healing her to ensure the energy bar remains constant.”
Yan commanded thus.
“Okay.”
Tian Jiu nodded, and a series of recovery spells struck Qing Bai, swiftly restoring the health she had just lost.
Immediately, the energy bar that had vanished beneath Qing Bai’s HP bar reappeared, and it grew longer and longer.
Watching Tian Jiu, who had entirely expended her mana on healing Qing Bai and was now preparing for “Mana Recharge,” Yan smiled.
He had initially worried that Tian Jiu’s aggro generation would become too high and pull the boss’s attention, but now that Qing Bai had already depleted half of the boss’s health, the boss’s aggro was firmly locked onto Qing Bai.
Tian Jiu should no longer snatch aggro.
Tian Jiu used Mana Recharge to fully restore her mana, then once again cast recovery skills on Qing Bai, repeating this cycle.
The energy bar beneath Qing Bai’s status display, constantly replenishing the immense mana consumed by her multi-chanting, only increased in length, never decreasing, continuously topping up Tian Jiu’s expenditures.
Yan watched the scene unfold before him, lost in thought.
‘If the aggro issue could be resolved, these two would be an incredible combination.’
‘Qing Bai’s Dexterity Mage build is very powerful, but this playstyle has a significant drawback: her mana consumption is much faster than that of a typical mage, necessitating a large amount of time and operational space for “Mana Recharge” to restore mana.’
‘However, if Tian Jiu were by her side, and aggro wasn’t a concern, just like now…’
‘The energy bar generated by Tian Jiu’s “Over-Healing” could replenish Qing Bai’s mana, allowing Qing Bai to deal damage without any reservations.’
‘Essentially, Tian Jiu was performing “Mana Recharge” for Qing Bai, freeing Qing Bai, the primary damage dealer, from worrying about mana issues.
This undoubtedly provided her with superior conditions for output, allowing her to focus purely on offense without needing to find attack intervals to use “Mana Recharge” herself.’
‘Unfortunately, this strategy was currently only viable when fighting outdoor bosses.
In a fixed boss chamber, if Tian Jiu dared to heal at such a high frequency, the boss would instantly lose aggro, leading to a chaotic fight and a party wipe.’
‘Sigh… aggro management has always been such a pain.
Perhaps it would be better if the party had a stable tank to hold aggro?’
‘Well, never mind.
Since my own health is specialized, I can temporarily act as a tank.
There’s no need to search for another tank player; an extra person just means an extra risk of exposing my own bug-like abilities.’
‘A tank capable of single-handedly stabbing a boss to death,’ Yan mused.
