The Unforeseen Collision and a Sister’s Suspicion

Chapter 181,367 words12 min read

“No… nothing…”

The girl gazed at Lin Ling’s strangely captivating face, a hint of distraction in her eyes. Even with the motorcycle helmet obscuring part of it, she felt a peculiar sense of familiarity.

Lin Ling, observing her reaction, let out a silent breath of relief. The hand he’d instinctively clutched to his lower back slowly relaxed. He had to admit, this new body’s physical prowess was truly remarkable. If his old body had taken a hit like that, he’d undoubtedly be sprawled on the ground, unable to move.

“Lin Ling! Are you alright? Did you fall anywhere?”

Footsteps sounded from behind him, and Lin Yiting rushed to Lin Ling’s side. Her slender, pale hands gently patted and pressed, her worry evident as she checked for any injuries from the collision.

“Sister, I’m fine. Don’t underestimate your little brother’s physique.”

Hearing him, Lin Yiting meticulously scrutinized Lin Ling’s body from head to toe. Only after confirming there were no apparent abnormalities did she speak, a hint of exasperation in her tone.

“Don’t try to be a hero. I’m going to give you a thorough check-up when we get home.”

“Huh? What, what are you going to check?”

Lin Ling instinctively recoiled a step, his gaze wary as he looked at Lin Yiting. She, in turn, rolled her eyes at him before turning her attention to the girl standing nearby.

The girl visibly froze upon hearing the name “Lin Ling.” Quickly, she removed her helmet, revealing a cascade of grey hair that flowed like a waterfall.

Seeing the girl’s distinctive features, Lin Ling was utterly dumbfounded. Not for any other reason than the sudden recollection of a grey-haired girl from the original novel.

‘Her name was, I think, Chu Hanxi, a girl from a very ordinary family. She was a year younger than the male lead, a freshman in high school. In the original book, her appearances were infrequent; despite being part of the male lead’s harem, she had hardly any significant role.’

‘Later on, her name wasn’t even mentioned. Her most substantial contribution had been crashing her bike into the male lead, which ironically advanced Chen Sishi’s descent into darkness.’

‘But this isn’t right. This road is at least several blocks away from the one in the novel. How did *this one* manage to pinpoint my location and execute her “assassination” plan so precisely?’

‘Hiss~ Could it be that this world’s corrective force is truly that potent? Does this mean Chen Sishi has already transformed into a yandere?’

Seeing Lin Ling frozen in place, the grey-haired girl waved a hand in front of his eyes. When he slowly turned to look at her, she spoke with a touch of embarrassment.

“Lin Ling, I’m so… so sorry. I was just trying to practice riding my electric bike today, and I didn’t expect…”

“Xiaoling, you know her?”

Lin Yiting, who had been about to scold the young girl, was immediately taken aback by her words.

“Ahaha… well…”

Under Lin Yiting’s sharp gaze, Lin Ling felt a pang of guilt. Honestly, if it weren’t for her distinctive grey hair, he wouldn’t have recognized her at all.

‘It’s all the original male lead’s fault. Why did he have so many romantic entanglements? Wouldn’t it be better to have more friends and fewer lovers? But no, he just had to spread his charm everywhere.’

Just as Lin Ling was seething with resentment in his mind, Chu Hanxi’s voice reached his ears.

“Hello, Big Sister. I’m Lin Ling’s junior, Chu Hanxi.”

“Oh, so you’re Xiaoling’s junior.”

A terrible premonition struck Lin Ling, and he quickly looked up at Lin Yiting. Her sharp eyes, like barbed hooks, seemed to pierce straight into his heart.

“Uh… that, Sister, please don’t misunderstand.”

“Oh, really now? And here I was worried you were too dense to ever find a girlfriend. Look at this! All these girls are chasing after you, aren’t they?”

Completely disregarding Lin Ling’s explanation, Lin Yiting stepped forward, pushing him aside.

Lin Ling opened his mouth, wanting to speak, but no words came out. It was truly like a mute eating bitter coptis—he had suffering but couldn’t express it. From Lin Yiting’s perspective, it certainly looked as if girls were constantly pursuing him.

Yet, Lin Ling held absolutely no interest in such romantic entanglements.

“Uh, Sister, please let me explain!”

“Can’t you just focus on one? Look at how many girls there are! If you want a girlfriend, then pick one and commit. Keeping them all in a ‘fish pond’ like this, what kind of behavior is that?”

Lin Yiting seemed to be in no mood to listen, chattering on and on. Lin Ling could only lower his head, waiting for her to finish before he spoke.

“There’s truly nothing going on between us. If you don’t believe me, you can ask around; we’re just friends.”

“Really?”

With Lin Ling’s adamant denial, Lin Yiting found herself with little else to say. She merely looked at his captivating face and sighed helplessly.

“Xiaoling, I truly hope there’s nothing between you two. If I ever find out you’re two-timing, I wouldn’t hesitate to turn my little brother into a little sister, you know.”

At her words, Lin Ling felt an immediate chill between his legs, and he nodded frantically.

“Don’t worry, Sister, I absolutely won’t be two-timing.”

Seeing his panicked expression, Lin Yiting couldn’t help but chuckle. She then gave Lin Ling a light tap on the head.

The two returned to where Chu Hanxi still stood obediently. When she looked at Lin Ling, her eyes were brimming with remorse.

“Um… perhaps I could treat you both to a meal?”

Observing Chu Hanxi’s demeanor, Lin Ling felt that if he didn’t accept her invitation, she might carry the guilt for a long time. However, if he followed the original plot where the male lead accepted Chu Hanxi’s offer…

‘Lin Ling couldn’t shake the thought that Chen Sishi might somehow catch wind of it and come charging over with a cleaver.’

The thought sent a shiver down his spine, and Lin Ling pulled out his phone. A line of text, prominently displayed on the screen, struck him with an alarming sense of dread.

–Chen Sishi: Lin Ling, please don’t lie to me, okay?

The message had been sent hours ago. As Lin Ling read it, his mind flashed back to Lin Yiting’s earlier question about anything strange happening.

Lin Ling’s hand trembled, and with a *clatter*, his phone slipped and hit the ground.

“Xiaoling, what’s wrong? Are you just abandoning your phone now?”

Frowning, Lin Yiting bent down to pick up the phone. Its quality was decent; the fall had only cracked the tempered glass screen protector, leaving the rest of the phone functional.

However, upon seeing the message displayed on the screen, she, too, looked at Lin Ling with a face full of questions.

“Xiaoling, who is she?”

Lin Ling remained silent, snatching the phone from her hand and hastily addressing Chu Hanxi.

“That won’t be necessary, we’ve just eaten. I… we have urgent matters to attend to, so we’ll be leaving now.”

Ignoring Lin Yiting’s bewildered queries, Lin Ling finished speaking, grabbed her hand, and desperately sprinted out of the snack street. Lin Yiting was utterly confused, but just as Lin Ling started running, a group of figures dressed in black suddenly caught her eye in her peripheral vision.

They all appeared tall and burly, and the moment they spotted Lin Ling, they charged directly towards them. A jolt of alarm shot through Lin Yiting, and she instinctively reached for her thigh.

But today, Lin Yiting was dressed in casual attire and had no dagger with her. Seeing their pursuers rapidly closing in, Lin Yiting gritted her teeth and instantly darted in front of Lin Ling.

Lin Ling hadn’t even processed what was happening before he felt a tremendous force on his arm. His body stumbled, nearly falling, but Lin Yiting was there, helping him regain his balance.

Lin Yiting was incredibly fast. Being a bodyguard, her physical prowess was beyond question. At her sprinting pace, Lin Ling felt as if he were being dragged along by her.
