“You? Stubborn and incorrigible!”
The Archbishop’s beard bristled with rage. He had never imagined that a member of the Dragon Tribe would be so arrogant and dismissive when facing the will of the Dragon God.
“Fine, fine! Then today, this old man shall present these evidences one by one to Her Eminence the Saintess. I hope Her Eminence can provide reasonable explanations and proof. Otherwise, I’m afraid you will no longer be able to sit in that seat of yours today!”
The “Archbishop” shouted sternly. At the same time, he began to open the pieces of evidence on the table one by one.
Among them were collected letters of correspondence between the Saintess and cultists, as well as so-called public petitions and ledgers documenting embezzlement.
In short, these evidences shared a common trait: they were all easily forged. The so-called letters, petitions, and ledgers could all be faked. From beginning to end, “Aurelia” did not see a single Memory Stone that directly recorded her committing a crime.
Looking at the bit of so-called evidence on the table, “Aurelia” actually let out a contemptuous laugh.
She would never believe the little dragon girl would do such things. After all, how could a silly girl who spent all day thinking of nothing but finding a man who had long since passed away have the mind to abuse her power for personal gain?
“Oh my, it seems in everyone’s eyes, I, the Saintess, am truly a paragon of evil whose crimes are too numerous to record~”
The girl sighed softly, her gentle tone devoid of any fear or panic regarding the evidence.
“And do you have any evidence to refute this?”
Elizabeth stepped forward and questioned her in a shrill voice.
“I’m not like you, Madam—so bored all day that you think of nothing but how to trip others up and create fake evidence. I’m a normal person with a busy life; I don’t have time to play these childish house-playing games with you~”
The girl spread her hands, her gaze carrying the helpless look one might give a naive child.
“You sharp-tongued brat! If you’re so capable, come over here!”
Elizabeth’s fury surged as if it were about to spray from her eyes. Fortunately, Delphina grabbed her mother’s arm, preventing her from acting recklessly like a common shrew.
“Enough! Silence!”
The Archbishop slapped the table, and the entire venue fell quiet. He looked around with a serious expression.
“Despite such kind advice, the Saintess is still unwilling to confess. In that case, we shall ask the Dragon God’s Eye to discern the truth of these evidences. The truth belongs to us! Given by the Great Dragon God!”
As the words fell, the “Dragon God’s Eye” that had been hovering at the top of the cathedral overlooking all living beings suddenly erupted with unparalleled divine light. The holy radiance poured onto the evidence spread across the table. Then, the light seemed to sweep over all the proof before retracting back into the Divine Eye.
As the light gradually dimmed, that unique eyeball remained wide open.
The Dragon God’s Eye did not close its eye—this indicated that the evidence was all true!
“Aurelia, what else do you have to say for yourself? The evidence is mountain-high. As the Saintess, surely you aren’t unwilling to acknowledge the judgment of the Dragon God’s Eye as well?”
The “Archbishop’s” tone turned cold. In an instant, the atmosphere inside the cathedral became precarious. The clergy surrounding the area showed signs of closing in on “Aurelia.”
They were waiting for a command. As long as the Archbishop gave the word, they would swarm forward and seize the sinner on the spot.
Unfortunately, “Aurelia,” who had been deemed guilty even by the Dragon God, stood her ground and coldly scanned her surroundings. Anyone met by her gaze felt an unprovoked shudder run through them, followed by a terrifying sting at their throats.
These seemingly strong and invincible dragons all retreated like a disorganized rabble.
Seeing this, the “Archbishop” couldn’t help but curse them as useless in his heart. Simultaneously, he raised his hand, preparing to officially order the arrest of the Saintess.
In the shadows, “Aurelia’s” hand also reached silently behind her. The moment the enemy moved, the secret twin blades at her back would instantly unsheathe and draw blood!
However, at this critical juncture, a voice extinguished the already lit fuse.
Miss Delphina, who had barely spoken or shown any emotion until now, stepped forward.
The tension-filled stalemate paused at her words. Subsequently, all eyes gathered on this young lady.
“Archbishop, before the arrest is carried out, I have a few words I wish to speak with my aunt.”
The graceful girl in the white dress stepped out and bowed respectfully to the “Archbishop.” Her presence was as clear and natural as a jasmine flower, yet her brilliant golden pupils held a stubbornness unique to a young girl.
“Oh, Saintess? If you truly wish to speak with this sinner, you can wait until she is brought to justice and visit her in the Great Dungeon.”
The “Archbishop” leaned down, his eyes full of “kindness.”
Aurelia had only just been convicted, yet this Archbishop was already impatient to address his chosen candidate as the Saintess.
“No, I want it now.”
Delphina shook her head stubbornly.
“Delphina, don’t be willful. Let this sinner pay for her crimes and go to jail first. Once you become the Saintess, you can interrogate her however you like,” Lady Elizabeth’s voice also rang out from behind.
But even her mother’s dissuasion did not shake the girl’s resolve.
“Lord Archbishop, a forced conviction may be effective, but it will still cause the public to question and waver in their trust of the Church. I wish to talk with my aunt; I am confident I can make her realize her mistakes and lead her to confess personally.”
The girl spoke with absolute certainty, and both the “Archbishop” and Lady Elizabeth were somewhat swayed.
A forced conviction, after all, carried the suspicion of leaving a handle for others to criticize. When the time came for Delphina to take the seat of the Saintess, her position might be unstable and difficult to command public respect.
The demons still needed the influence of the Saintess, and Elizabeth naturally hoped for the best for her daughter. The two exchanged looks and eventually both nodded.
“Prepare a room for me. I want to have a good talk with my aunt,” Delphina turned and shouted.
Inside the independent room.
The two dragon girls of nearly the same age faced each other.
“Aurelia” stood with her arms crossed, looking entirely indifferent toward this conversation.
As for Delphina, who had made the request, she looked around cautiously after entering the room and then performed an action that surprised even “Aurelia.”
This lady of the Duke’s Manor actually set up a Silencing Array for the entire room.
“What do you mean?”
“Aurelia” frowned, not quite understanding.
“Don’t talk, there isn’t much time. We need to swap clothes right now.”
As she spoke, Delphina began to strip off her own clothes. The sudden action made the girl confused as to what the other was thinking; she grabbed the other’s hand to stop her from undressing while her other hand secretly moved toward the scimitar at her lower back.
“What are you doing? Explain yourself clearly.”
“There’s no time left. We need to swap clothes quickly. I have some makeup tools with me. You and I look somewhat similar; with makeup and a change of clothes, if we move fast, it should be enough to confuse their sight,” Delphina said rapidly, her tone growing increasingly urgent.
“Wait, explain it to me. What do you mean by ‘confuse their sight’?”
“Aurelia” tightly held the girl’s hand. Seeing that the other didn’t understand, Delphina was so anxious she was almost in tears.
“Aunt, please just go! If you don’t leave now, it will be too late!”
“Mother and the others have already been bewitched by the demons—even the Lord Archbishop! Right now, you are the only one I can trust. Quickly, put on my clothes and escape this place. Go to the Royal Palace! Tell my Royal Uncle!”
“The demons have already begun to erode the entire Imperial City. They want to drag the entire Great Dragon Divine Dynasty into an abyss of eternal damnation!”
