Chapter 19
The Class Change ability was the ultimate power, one exclusive to Heroes.
As its name suggested, this skill allowed a Hero to transform into another class, gaining all of its associated abilities.
If one were to ask what the most troublesome aspect of a Hero was, every member of demonkind would undoubtedly point to their infinite resurrection.
Yet, if asked about the most terrifying aspect, there would be no doubt: it was the Class Change ability.
Clotilde’s voice was laced with concern. “Alex, I need to confirm one more time: are you truly going to use the Class Change ability here?”
“While a Hero can resurrect infinitely, remember that you usurped history, directly defeating the true Hero of this generation to become the current one.”
“Should you die, I cannot guarantee whether your soul would be reborn in this era, or if it would return to the world two hundred years in the future. In other words, you absolutely cannot die, no matter what.”
…
Lisbeth was well aware of Clotilde’s concerns, for as Clotilde herself had stated, Lisbeth couldn’t be certain in which era her soul would be reborn if she died.
Noticing Lisbeth’s silence, Clotilde’s voice softened.
She spoke slowly. “Alex, perhaps you should return today. No matter what, I believe you will have an opportunity to rescue me later. So please, whatever you do, don’t—”
“Class Change ability, activate!”
“Eh!? Eh!?”
Before Clotilde could even finish her sentence, Lisbeth suddenly cried out loudly.
Immediately, a purple hexagonal magic array materialized beneath her feet.
In the very next second, the magic array rapidly expanded, quickly encompassing the entire treasure vault in the blink of an eye.
Clotilde shrieked, “Alex! Did you even hear what I just said? I told you, if you die here, everything will be over!”
“No, I won’t die,” Lisbeth declared. “No matter what happens, I absolutely will not die.”
While Lisbeth’s tone during previous conversations with Clotilde had always carried a hint of jest,
Her current voice, however, was filled with such unwavering resolve that it made her seem like a completely different person, causing Clotilde to fall silent instinctively.
Upon noticing Clotilde’s silence, Lisbeth’s face once again broke into a smile.
Yet, her eyes remained filled with an unwavering confidence and resolve as she addressed Clotilde.
“Clotilde, I understand everything you’ve said,” Lisbeth asserted. “However, the Class Change ability is something I will inevitably use at some point. If I were to shy away from using it now, simply out of fear of failure, then the path ahead of me would become incredibly arduous.”
“Furthermore, Clotilde, don’t forget that whether it was two hundred years in the future or this present era, I have never died even once.”
“That’s because I promised Kristia back then that I would never carelessly abandon my life just because I could resurrect. So, even if it’s just to uphold that promise, I absolutely will not die!”
“Sigh… I understand…”
Since Lisbeth had spoken with such conviction, Clotilde could only sigh.
She then slowly said, “Since you’ve put it that way, I won’t stop you.”
“However, remember what you’ve said. If you actually die, I’ll stab you to death a few hundred more times, just to make sure you really get a taste of it!”
“Oh my, how terrifying,” Lisbeth chuckled. “It seems I absolutely cannot die then.”
Lisbeth knew this was Clotilde’s unique way of encouraging her.
Having secured Clotilde’s support, Lisbeth took a deep breath.
Then, she slowly chanted, “Class selected, Tier 1—Rogue!”
