Yun Yao naturally knew what had happened to Bai Lan. However, this particular development seemed to be outside her expectations.
“Your Chaos Body, having absorbed lunar essence last night, prematurely integrated with your physical form,” Yun Yao explained. “As I’ve mentioned before, the Chaos Body is composed of Yin and Yang energies. Normally, it requires a balance between the two.”
“However, your constitution leans towards Yin, and coupled with the significant absorption of Yin power yesterday, an imbalance occurred, resulting in your current state.”
Upon hearing this, Bai Lan’s expression became incredibly rigid. This suddenly unfamiliar body instilled in her a profound sense of insecurity, far more intense than any unease she had felt before.
“Then… this… can I change back?” Bai Lan stammered, her voice laced with trepidation.
Yun Yao paused for a moment, contemplating, before offering her reply.
“Owners of the Chaos Body possess a unique characteristic: one soul, two forms,” she stated. “This means that when your Yin and Yang are balanced, the Chaos Body allows for the free conversion of gender.”
“However, with the current imbalance, you are unable to revert to your male form. At least, not for now.”
Yun Yao’s answer left Bai Lan utterly bewildered, a massive headache blossoming in her mind. Being made to wear women’s clothes and pretend to be a female disciple to join the Luoshen Sect had already been a difficult pill to swallow.
Now, it was truly grotesque; she had transformed from a man into a woman. Her emotions spiraled, an uncontrollable surge of fury threatening to erupt from within.
It wasn’t that she held any prejudice against women. Rather, she had lived for over twenty years as a man.
Was it appropriate to suddenly expect her to become a woman? A male mind in a female body—what normal person could endure such a thing?
Just as Bai Lan was on the verge of an outburst, a concerned voice suddenly reached her ears.
“Sister Bai Lan, what’s wrong? What happened? Are you alright?” It was Xue Linglong’s voice.
Given the presence of others, Bai Lan naturally had to suppress the anger raging within her. She simply couldn’t reveal such a matter in front of anyone else.
At the very least, her relationship with Xue Linglong hadn’t reached that level of intimacy.
“N-nothing, I’m fine, Linglong. You… you should head back first,” Bai Lan said, seeking a pretext to send Xue Linglong away. “Soon, we’ll need to go to the Hundred Flowers Terrace to hear the sect elders explain the Hundred Flowers Technique. We mustn’t miss it.”
“Ah? But… you look like this… what exactly happened?” Xue Linglong couldn’t help but inquire further.
“It’s nothing,” Bai Lan said, forcing a cheerful smile. “My constitution is rather unique. I’ll tell you a secret: I’ve actually already been accepted as a disciple by an elder of the Luoshen Sect.”
“Coming to the outer sect is merely a formality for me.”
Xue Linglong was taken aback, though she had harbored some suspicions about this all along. Nevertheless, the matter itself didn’t concern her greatly.
Bai Lan’s emotional fluctuations couldn’t deceive Xue Linglong. She could sense that Bai Lan was clearly suppressing something, but since Bai Lan was unwilling to speak, she felt she couldn’t press too hard.
“Alright, Sister Bai Lan,” Xue Linglong said with a resigned sigh, leaving her with a heartfelt message. “I have no family now, and you are the first senior sister I met here. From now on, you’ll be like my own sister.”
“If anything troubles you, you can tell me. There’s no need to bottle it up; I promise I won’t tell anyone.” She then walked away, glancing back every few steps until she reached her own dwelling.
Only after she had left did Bai Lan close the door, then furiously question Yun Yao.
“Yun Yao, why didn’t you warn me sooner that something like this could happen?” Bai Lan demanded, her voice seething with anger. “And why didn’t you tell me the Chaos Body had this kind of effect?”
She felt utterly swindled by Yun Yao. Indeed, she had never informed her that the Chaos Body could transform a man into a woman.
“Eh? Well, from my perspective, gender shouldn’t be a significant concern for cultivators, should it?” Yun Yao countered. “Besides, now that you’ve become a girl, aren’t you even more suited to living in the Luoshen Sect and concealing your identity?”
As a mere fragment of heavenly consciousness, she wasn’t truly human and naturally couldn’t grasp human thought processes. Bai Lan’s intense reaction struck her as exceedingly peculiar.
“You? Forget it,” Bai Lan sighed. “What’s the point of getting angry with you? You’re not human; you wouldn’t understand the psychological impact of a man suddenly becoming a woman.”
Hearing Yun Yao’s innocent words, she could only swallow her fury. After all, Yun Yao wasn’t entirely wrong. Now that she was a woman, didn’t it align even better with the identity of a Luoshen Sect disciple?
Moreover, as a woman, the Xue Clan would undoubtedly have a much harder time finding her.
She could only console herself in this manner, then strive to adapt to this strange yet familiar body. Due to her current young age, there weren’t many discernible differences yet, save for her chest, which felt distinctly off.
Bai Lan subtly pulled open her collar for a quick glance. The sight made her gasp sharply. The ‘things’ on her chest, though not yet particularly prominent, were undeniably no longer a man’s pectorals.
Bai Lan’s head throbbed with anxiety. She could only imagine the sight if these ‘things’ on her chest grew larger with time.
After calming down for a while, Bai Lan managed to stabilize her emotions. She needed to prepare to go to the Hundred Flowers Terrace, as all outer sect disciples were required to attend a lecture there today.
Of course, she didn’t strictly need to go, but she felt uneasy letting Xue Linglong attend alone.
“So, my hair and eye color can’t change back?” Bai Lan inquired further.
Her current appearance didn’t resemble a normal person; instead, she looked more like a mutant. Yet, it had to be said, she seemed considerably more attractive than before.
Those azure eyes, in particular, were captivating enough to draw even her own gaze.
“As I said, I can’t directly help you,” Yun Yao replied, shaking her head. “Unless you can find a disguise method to conceal it, it definitely won’t revert, because you are now the Yin form of the Chaos Body.”
Bai Lan was undoubtedly disappointed to hear this, but disappointment wouldn’t change anything. There was simply no way to alter the outcome.
“Oh, right,” Yun Yao suddenly interjected. “Your experience points are now sufficient to exchange for a disguise treasure.”
The moment these words left her lips, Bai Lan, who had been feeling somewhat disheartened, immediately urged Yun Yao to tell her the current experience point total.
“Is that so? How many experience points do I have now?” Bai Lan asked.
“Hmm, well, due to the awakening of your Chaos Body yesterday and your first absorption of lunar essence, you gained nearly three hundred experience points in one go,” Yun Yao explained. “Here, you need at least 50 experience points to exchange for a special treasure. Special treasures are items that don’t affect your combat strength, and disguise-type treasures fall into this category.”
“Excellent,” Bai Lan urged. “Then please find me a suitable special treasure, one that isn’t easily seen through.”
Yun Yao nodded, then deducted 50 experience points from Bai Lan’s total. From her treasure vault, she retrieved an exquisite necklace that shimmered with a purple glow.
“This is the Profound Yin Necklace,” Yun Yao explained. “It can be used to disguise your appearance and has a cosmetic effect. First, perform a blood-bonding ritual, then wear it and change your appearance to whatever you desire.”
Special magic treasures had no specific grade and couldn’t provide the user with actual combat power. Simply put, they were purely functional artifacts.
Bai Lan didn’t hesitate; she immediately took the treasure and performed the blood-bonding ritual. As the artifact absorbed her blood, the purple gem on the necklace instantly emitted an eerie violet glow.
Bai Lan’s mind immediately connected with the item, and she understood how to use it. She placed the necklace around her neck and closed her eyes.
After about a minute, a unique energy flowed from the necklace, permeating Bai Lan’s body. Her hair color quickly reverted to black, and when she opened her eyes, her pupils had also returned to a normal hue.
On the surface, she had returned to normal. As for her gender, well, there was nothing that could be done about that.
