You’re Really Pushing Your Luck

Chapter 19 Part 21,585 words14 min read

In the afternoon, send Jiang Jibai a message and ask for his consent.

She wasn’t some hooligan forcing an innocent man.

She was civilized.

If he didn’t nod, she wouldn’t touch him.

But Jiang Jibai clearly had no intention of cooperating with her plan.

During the last class that afternoon, Wen Xi sent him a message.

RiceCake: [Jiang Jibai, time’s up. Have you decided?]

She waited half an hour before receiving a reply completely unrelated to her question.

Jiang Jibai: [I’m busy today. Wenxin will pick you up. Don’t wait for me. Sleep early.]

“…?”

So he was playing this trick, was he?

Wen Xi didn’t ask what he was busy with.

After class she rode back to the old residence with Jiang Wenxin.

After dinner with the Jiang family, she showered and waited for Jiang Jibai on the bed.

As long as he came back, he had to compensate her.

She waited until one in the morning.

The bedroom was completely quiet.

Her eyelids grew so heavy she could barely keep them open.

Unable to endure it anymore, she called Jiang Jibai.

He answered.

His voice was calm and cold.

“I’m still in the lab. Wen Xi, you can go to sleep.”

“….”

Her voice was soft with sleepiness and grievance.

“Jiang Jibai, you’re going back on your word.”

“Are you planning not to let me take advantage back?”

“I’m just busy,” he replied.

Busy today of all days?

He had never been busy until two in the morning before.

Wen Xi hung up.

She couldn’t stay awake any longer.

She pulled the blanket over herself, turned off the light, and fell asleep.

The next day she learned Jiang Jibai had not returned all night.

Great.

Just to avoid her, he stayed out overnight.

At breakfast, Zou Jiayun asked about Jiang Jibai not returning the night before.

She had already messaged him that morning.

Apparently he had stayed at his apartment after finishing experiments at three in the morning.

Wen Xi ground her teeth internally but showed nothing on the surface.

She even told Zou Jiayun she would remind Jiang Jibai not to stay up late when she saw him later.

In reality, Jiang Jibai avoided seeing her all day.

He seemed to treat her as a female hooligan and hid from her completely.

He had several places he could stay—his lab, the company, his apartment, the university.

Unless she had GPS on him, she couldn’t find him.

The second night he said he was working late at Fangke Entertainment and didn’t return.

On the third night, after receiving another message from him saying he was busy and not coming back, Wen Xi finally lost patience.

Instead of asking him directly where he was, she asked Zou Jiayun to find out.

Zou Jiayun looked worried as she messaged her son.

“Xixi, did you two quarrel?”

“Did he bully you? Tell me. I’ll definitely scold him.”

Since Jiang Jibai hadn’t come home for two nights, Wen Xi simply went along with the assumption.

She made a pitiful face.

“Yes, Mom. Jiang Jibai argued with me.”

“He’s ignoring me.”

“At night he makes me sleep alone and doesn’t reply to my messages.”

Zou Jiayun immediately became angry.

“That brat! Wait here, Xixi. I’ll call him and make him come back to apologize!”

Wen Xi’s eyes filled with convincing tears.

“Mom, please don’t scold him.”

“Just ask him to come back. I’ll talk to him myself.”

“You’re too soft-hearted,” Zou Jiayun sighed.

“Fine. I won’t scold him. I’ll just ask him to come back.”

Wen Xi sat on the living room sofa watching Zou Jiayun call Jiang Jibai.

She thought Jiang Jibai listened to his mother.

Otherwise he wouldn’t have gone on so many blind dates before.

But three minutes later Zou Jiayun hung up, looking hesitant.

“Mom? Is he coming back?” Wen Xi asked.

Zou Jiayun looked embarrassed.

“Well… you know your husband doesn’t always listen to me.”

Wen Xi immediately understood.

Her face collapsed.

But Zou Jiayun added quickly.

“However, I do know where he is.”

“If he won’t come back, why don’t you go find him?”

Wen Xi’s eyes lit up instantly.

Right!

If the mountain won’t come to her, she’ll go to the mountain.

“Okay! Where is he?”

“His apartment near Ning University.”

“I know that place,” Wen Xi replied.

She hesitated.

“Are you sure?”

“Of course!” Zou Jiayun said confidently.

“I heard a dog barking when I called him. That Samoyed he keeps is at that apartment.”

“….”

The moment she heard about that huge Samoyed, Wen Xi almost retreated.

She was afraid of dogs.

But…

She still went.

At eleven that night, Ning City’s nightlife was just beginning.

Cars flowed along the roads and streetlights glittered like a galaxy.

Jiang Jibai stood before the floor-to-ceiling window after hanging up his mother’s call.

He was still wearing his suit, though his tie had been loosened.

The reason he hadn’t returned to the old residence these past few days wasn’t entirely to avoid Wen Xi.

He really had been busy.

But there was also a little intention to avoid the girl.

He had kissed her while drunk.

That was indeed his fault.

It was reasonable for her to ask for compensation.

But he had never expected that kind of compensation.

He thought she was simply curious about the opposite s*x.

If he kept some distance, her curiosity would fade.

Then he could offer another form of compensation later.

He tossed his phone onto the sofa and removed his tie, preparing to shower.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

At this hour the only people who might come were Bai Yu or Jiang Wangzhi.

Without checking the door camera, he opened the door.

Under the warm hallway light stood the last person he expected to see.

Wen Xi.

She wore a white shirt, pleated skirt, and canvas shoes.

Her long black hair was tied in a low ponytail, revealing straight snow-white legs.

Youthful and energetic.

“Jiang Jibai… can you lock your dog up first?”

She looked around nervously, afraid the large Samoyed might appear behind him.

Jiang Jibai fell silent for a moment.

It seemed he had underestimated the girl’s determination.

“Wait here,” he said.

Two minutes later he returned.

Wen Xi noticed something strange.

When he opened the door earlier, his shirt had been loosely unbuttoned.

Now every button was done up and his tie perfectly straight.

Extremely restrained.

Was he guarding against her?

“Coming in?” he asked.

“Yes!”

Wen Xi rushed inside.

The dog was nowhere to be seen.

She sat obediently on the sofa.

Jiang Jibai brought her a bottle of cold water from the fridge and opened it.

Wen Xi took a sip and looked up at him.

“Jiang Jibai, do you know why I came?”

Her tone was straightforward and soft.

He sat across from her, posture upright, legs spread naturally.

He simply watched her silently.

Five minutes passed.

Wen Xi slowly wilted under his calm gaze.

“You’ve been avoiding me for two days.”

“Are you going back on your word?”

“You said I could take advantage of you as compensation.”

“If you’re going to deny that you French-kissed me, then I’ll leave right now.”

She pressed her lips together.

“I’ll just pretend I was forcibly kissed by another man.”

“I won’t hold you responsible anymore.”

On the way here she had thought she could thicken her skin for the sake of her idol.

But under his cold gaze, she suddenly couldn’t do it anymore.

It felt like forcing a restrained man to break his principles.

Wen Xi sighed softly.

“Never mind. I’m leaving.”

She turned to go.

But after one step, a large hand grabbed her wrist.

“I didn’t say I would deny what happened.”

Wen Xi looked at him.

“You’re sure this is the compensation you want?” he asked calmly.

Her dull eyes brightened slightly.

“Why else would I come here?”

“I’m afraid of dogs, you know.”

Jiang Jibai paused.

“As you wish.”

“Huh?”

“What?”

“What did you say?”

He released her wrist and leaned back against the sofa.

“Come sit.”

Wen Xi’s eyes lit up instantly.

Half a minute later, Jiang Jibai fell silent.

The girl had climbed directly onto his lap.

He had only meant for her to sit beside him.

But he didn’t push her away.

“Jiang Jibai, you agreed. I didn’t force you,” Wen Xi emphasized seriously.

“Mm.”

“I’m starting then?”

“Mm.”

Her heart was pounding wildly.

She had never undone a man’s belt before.

It took her two minutes just to figure it out.

Her eyelashes trembled slightly.

She glanced upward.

Jiang Jibai was still calm, breathing steady.

His shirt was buttoned to the collar, tie perfectly straight.

His upper body looked restrained and ascetic.

But below the waist was another world entirely.

Wen Xi accidentally met his gaze.

She immediately looked away.

A moment later, both of them froze slightly.

Jiang Jibai’s breathing finally changed.

His gaze darkened.

Wen Xi suddenly didn’t dare move.

“Wen Xi,” he said slowly.

“You’re so bold. I thought you wouldn’t be shy.”

“I’m not shy!” she protested stubbornly.

“Is that so?”

He looked at her calmly.

“Wen Xi.”

“Your hand is shaking.”
