While they claimed to be discussing the next day’s arrangements, there was, in truth, little to discuss.
“First, the motorcycle is definitely out; it’s no good at night either, so let’s seal it away for now.”
As Mo Linyu declared this, Li Yue, feeling constrained, frowned and retorted:
“What’s wrong? Your dad won’t let you ride my bike? Even a mighty Demon Lord, after reincarnation, has to obediently listen to her current dad, doesn’t she? Good girl?”
“Of course, he thinks it’s too dangerous… While I don’t particularly care, if I were grounded for something like this, I’d merely be locked up, waiting to die.”
For Mo Linyu, who had only three months to act, every single day was precious; even rest would likely become a luxury.
“So, what do you plan to do?”
“I’ll take the subway and explore the city center,” Mo Linyu replied.
“I have to stream during the day… actually, at night too. Today is a special circumstance.”
“You’re not coming with me anymore?”
“What need do I have to acco—”
Li Yue had intended to say that there was no need for her to accompany Mo Linyu, as she could, after all, sense souls from other worlds with the massive ra—… radar on her chest by herself; her presence would merely add another person to chat with.
Before she could even finish her sentence, golden pillars of light erupted from her entire body without warning, shooting straight up to the guest room’s ceiling.
Had this been accompanied by an impassioned musical score, she might well have begun spinning and evolving right there on the spot.
The guest room was illuminated as if by daylight, causing Mo Linyu to raise an eyebrow before she drew the room’s curtains.
Only then did she inquire, “What exactly is happening to you?”
“How the hell should I know, oh oh oh oh!!!”
Despite her outburst, Li Yue harbored some suspicions about the anomaly occurring within her.
“It might be the Goddess’s special ability arriving!”
“Oh? The transmigrator’s special ability you mentioned before?”
Mo Linyu stood calmly beside her, hands on her hips; while a glowing body might be anomalous for an Earthling, it seemed to be no big deal for a Demon Lord.
She even cocked one eyebrow higher than the other as she asked, “So, the special ability that Goddess gave you is to turn you into a human flashbang? That’s incredibly dazzling.”
“How could that be? This must just be the process of transferring the special ability, right?”
If it were directly sent into her body, it likely wasn’t an item, but rather a system? Or some kind of cheat?
As Li Yue pondered this, the radiance around her gradually dimmed.
“Oh, it seems to be over.”
Mo Linyu waved a hand in front of her, then asked, “Alright, so how do you feel now?”
Li Yue stood up and walked to the full-length mirror in the guest room, scrutinizing her reflection.
She looked left, then right, before spinning in a circle.
‘Hmm, at least from my outward appearance… I don’t feel like I’ve changed at all?’ she murmured to herself, her fingers unconsciously toying with the golden hair cascading over her shoulders.
In other words, the Goddess had bestowed upon her some kind of superpower?
Then she looked at Mo Linyu.
“…What the hell is this?”
From Li Yue’s perspective, a semi-transparent dialogue box had materialized out of thin air before Mo Linyu’s chest, much like a game’s dialogue box or movie subtitles.
[Oh? This Hero, she’s staring at my chest again~]
Li Yue abruptly lifted her gaze, but Mo Linyu merely asked, “Hmm? What are you spacing out about now?”
Just then, the text within the dialogue box changed again…
[Oh my? And she’s shy… could she be captivated by my beauty?]
“Huh? Could you not be so conceited?” Li Yue couldn’t help but retort.
This, however, surprised Mo Linyu, as she hadn’t said anything aloud.
She tilted her head, curiously observing Li Yue’s reaction.
“Hmm? How do you know what I’m thinking?”
Li Yue turned her head and pointed to Mo Linyu’s chest.
“It’s because all your thoughts are written right here, aren’t they?”
Despite her words, Mo Linyu looked down at her own chest, then raised her head in confusion.
“…What are you talking about? I don’t see anything.”
It seemed only she could see this dialogue box, Li Yue mused, as she lowered her gaze once more to Mo Linyu’s chest, where the subtitles still appeared.
[This girl, could she have boiled her brains silly in the hot springs?]
“‘This girl, could she have boiled her brains silly in the hot springs?’—that’s what you were just thinking, right?”
With Li Yue’s exact words, Mo Linyu had no choice but to believe her.
“…Hoh, mind-reading?”
[That really is a detestable ability.]
Having once been the Demon Lord, her acceptance of supernatural powers like mind-reading was remarkably high.
Li Yue explained, “Right on your chest, an object resembling a dialogue box has appeared, displaying your current thoughts… More precisely, it shows what you’re thinking but haven’t directly spoken aloud.”
Mo Linyu frowned, her lips sealed in silence.
[The feeling of having one’s thoughts spied upon truly is awful.]
Yet, the dialogue box truthfully displayed her current thoughts.
Li Yue sighed, returning to sit on the edge of the bed.
“I understand; anyone would feel uncomfortable, but I can’t control this ability… Furthermore, it only shows immediate thoughts and offers no way to check a log, so it’s not particularly convenient either.”
It still fell short of true mind-reading, lacking the ability to access memories, visualize imagined scenes, or directly extract desired information; it merely allowed her to glimpse current thoughts.
[I see, so this is the special ability the Goddess gave you?]
Li Yue nodded, arms crossed, affirming, “It seems so. Though it doesn’t feel very convenient to use… you, on the other hand, are quite convenient, aren’t you? Come on, just speak out loud! Hey!”
Indeed, this ability felt like an unpopular transmigrator’s special ability that couldn’t be given away.
It couldn’t provide the direct combat power a Hero most needed, and during conversations, instead of meeting the other person’s eyes, one would be staring down at their chest, which would be quite rude no matter who she was interacting with.
If she were to choose, she likely wouldn’t even consider it.
“That Goddess said she was going to find some useful special ability to send down, and this is what she came up with?”
Li Yue voiced a slight complaint, but Mo Linyu countered, “No, it’s not entirely useless… If we find souls from other worlds, you can use this to ascertain their thoughts and figure out how to persuade them.”
“So you mean…”
Before Mo Linyu could even speak, the dialogue box on her chest already provided the answer.
[Hmm, since you have such a power, you should come with me tomorrow.]
“…But I still have my stream.”
[You can stream from your home at noon; consider it a break. That should be fine, right?]
“If you come along, how am I supposed to stream?”
With Mo Linyu by her side, Li Yue couldn’t transform back into Li Longkang.
She couldn’t possibly have her “sister” substitute for the stream again tomorrow, could she?
If this continued, her streaming channel might very well change hands.
