The harsh alarm clock sounded as usual, drilling into Jiao Wangshu’s temples like a power drill.
“Ugh…”
She buried her head in the pillow in discomfort, fumbling around randomly. She didn’t find her phone, but felt a warmth in her palm.
—The texture felt wrong. Smooth, soft, and when she pressed, it was springy…
Jiao Wangshu instantly snapped awake. She jerked her eyes open, and what greeted her was a broad expanse of naked male chest!
And her palm was pressed squarely against his pectoral muscle. Beneath the skin, a powerful heartbeat thumped clearly and strongly, proving this was a living, breathing person.
“Aaaahh!!!!”
Jiao Wangshu screamed, tumbling off the bed in a flailing mess. But the moment she heard her own voice, she froze completely.
The voice was crystalline, like wind chimes in the rain, or the first ray of sunlight piercing the morning mist—clear and soft, falling lightly into the world.
But no matter how pleasant the voice was, it couldn’t hide—
It was a man’s voice!
A man!!!
How could this voice be coming from her throat?!
Just then, the unfamiliar man on the bed finally stirred. ‘He’ seemed to have been woken by Jiao Wangshu’s commotion. The man sat up, rubbing his eyes.
“Jiaojiao, what are you yelling about so early in the morning?”
The man’s voice was low, laced with a sleepy rasp. Each word he uttered was like whiskey coated in honey, concealing a burn beneath the sweetness.
Clearly, this was a completely different timbre from the one that had just come out of Jiao Wangshu’s mouth. Still, it was a “god-like male voice” that could make anyone’s knees go weak.
But at this moment, there was no romance in Jiao Wangshu’s heart. She stared wide-eyed, frozen like a stone statue.
As everyone knew, “Jiaojiao” was her pet name. If there was anyone else in the world besides her parents who would call her that, then obviously, it could only be—
Jiao Wangshu raised her head, trembling.
Before her was a completely unfamiliar yet extraordinarily handsome face: a high nose bridge, sharp jawline, fierce brows and eyes…
“A… A-Ling?”
The “man” in front of her suddenly widened his eyes.
The two of them locked eyes for a second, then simultaneously looked down at their own lower halves—
“Aaaaaahhhhh!!!!!!”
(Note: The protagonists have undergone a gender swap. From this point forward, all pronouns for both characters will be “he”.)
He was completely dazed, which was only natural. Who could remain calm after waking up as a completely unfamiliar man instead of a young woman?
Fortunately, he wasn’t the only unlucky one.
“Do you think there’s a possibility that we’re both dreaming right now?”
Ling Tinglan held his face solemnly and turned to say seriously, “It’s not impossible for two people to share a dream.”
Annoyed by this self-deceiving foolishness, Jiao Wangshu wished he could pounce and bite him a few times to see if he’d feel pain in a “dream”.
Out of a subtle sympathy for the idiot, Jiao Wangshu ultimately refrained from murder. He let out a long sigh. “Even if this is a dream, it has to follow the basic rules, okay? Accept reality. Not to mention anything else, just look at these two ‘character models’ we’re wearing now—could your tiny brain have imagined these?”
Faced with the “beauty assault” right in front of him, Ling Tinglan swallowed hard. His dizzy brain, hit by another jolt, finally sobered up a bit.
Indeed, he could swear on his life: where in all of history or across the world had such a stunning face ever existed?
The unfamiliar shell in front of him, housing the soul of his beloved sister, was simply too perfect. The face was beautifully smooth, flawless from every angle. Skin like jade was so pale it seemed to glow. Features were sculpted and delicate. And best of all were those light gray amber eyes—cool and distant, like a banished immortal.
Even if he downloaded “The Sims,” he wouldn’t dare create such a character.
It perfectly hit his aesthetic to a T!
If he could meet a face like this in real life, would he still be heartbroken by all those scandal-ridden ugly men?
But once he realized that this super gorgeous guy was Jiao Wangshu, who had grown up bickering with him, Ling Tinglan felt terrible. No matter how he looked at it, it was too strange. The dissonance made his scalp tingle.
Ling Tinglan wasn’t the only one feeling uncomfortable. In fact, Jiao Wangshu was also overwhelmed with mixed emotions.
In his memory, Ling Tinglan, who was a year younger, had always been frail due to premature birth—dark, thin, short, and small. He had always been someone Jiao Wangshu needed to protect and take care of. What did that have to do with the muscular, hormone-exploding hunk standing before him now?!
At this moment, the sunlight streaming through the window outlined the man’s handsome, sculpted features: sword-like brows, starry eyes, broad shoulders, narrow waist, and a jawline as beautifully carved as a statue.
The thin fabric of his white tank top couldn’t hide his perfect V-shaped torso. His eyes sparkled like cold stars. His aura was so strong that just him standing there seemed to make the air damp and chilly.
A shiver of goosebumps broke out across Jiao Wangshu’s arms.
Damn pretty boy. Give me back my sister!!!
Just as the two of them were staring at each other in silence, a knock suddenly came from the door:
“Tinglan! Tinglan? Are you home?”
Hearing this voice, Ling Tinglan shot up. “Holy sh*t! Why did my uncle have to show up now?!”
“Quick! Jiaojiao, hide! Don’t let him see you like this! Otherwise, even with ten mouths, I couldn’t explain!”
He panicked, jumping around frantically. But unfortunately, this apartment was pitifully small—a complete one-bedroom.
It had been bought by his uncle when Ling Tinglan started college and didn’t want to live in the dorms. The 30-square-meter space was completely open. Only one wardrobe looked a bit larger, but it was already stuffed full by Ling Tinglan.
Now, like a drowning man clutching at straws, he shouted and frantically shoved Jiao Wangshu toward the wardrobe, wishing he could roll him into a ball and hide him away.
Furious, Jiao Wangshu almost jumped up to hit his head. “I can’t let your uncle see me like this—but can you?!”
A thunderbolt!
Ling Tinglan held his face in a silent scream. Right! Overnight, a “niece” had become a “nephew”—how could he possibly explain this to his family?!
“Quick, quick! Hide me too!”
His mind blanked, and he actually tried to crawl into the wardrobe as well.
Ling Tinglan completely ignored his massive build. He was now a whole size larger than Jiao Wangshu. The wardrobe couldn’t even fit one of them, let alone both. That would be a real ghost story.
“Find another place to hide! Stop squeezing in!”
“… Idiot, that’s my hand!!!”
“Ouch! You stepped on my foot!”
…
Just as the two were in a frantic mess, the door suddenly opened.
At the same time, the already overburdened wardrobe finally gave way completely—
With a loud bang, dust filled the air.
The collapsed wardrobe revealed two disheveled young men tangled up inside. Their bare, pale legs dangled over the broken frame, swinging…
Fu Donghai’s hand, holding the keys, trembled slightly.
“What… are you two doing?”
They stared at each other. Ling Tinglan slapped his forehead and howled at the sky:
“Damnit! I forgot my uncle has a spare key!!!”
