Chapter 2: Day 2

“Get away from me!”

The girl shouted, wielding a sword made from sharpened, pure-white bone.

Three years had already passed since she fell into this hell.

During that time, the girl had survived by competing with ‘food insects’ and eating corpses.

Food insects are the worms that live in this hell.

They are cleaners that devour the corpses that fall from the hole in the sky that appears once every month or once every six months.

When the girl first fell into hell, the reason she couldn’t find anything but tombstones was because of the food insects.

As the girl swung her bone sword, the food insects retreated.
Only then did the girl quickly devour the corpses that had fallen from the hole.

She didn’t need any other parts.

The girl was only aiming for the heart.

She didn’t know it at first, but after encountering corpses many times, the girl came to know.

Not all corpses are the same.

Some were completely rotten and decayed, but others were fresh, having died not long ago.

The hearts of such corpses still contained blood that hadn’t dried up yet, so the girl always aimed for the hearts of those fresh corpses.

Ugh.

“Ah, I feel alive.”

The girl, who had eaten the heart and drank the blood pooled in it, patted her bulging belly.

“It’s pretty good once you get used to eating it.”

How was it when she first ate a corpse?

When she first ate a corpse and was relieved of the madness-like hunger.

The girl was shocked that she had eaten a human corpse, even though she had been suffering from terrible hunger.

But, not anymore.

Does the environment change a person?

The girl, who was just an ordinary modern person, had completely changed during the three years she had lived in hell.

To the girl, human corpses were no longer ‘corpses’.
They were just precious food that would relieve her hunger and thirst.

But.

“It’s about time I got out of this goddamn hell.”

The girl looked up at the sky, poking her teeth with a toothpick made of a small bone.

The sky was still a murky black.

A barren sky where no other color could be found except for the hole that opened once every month or once every six months.

The girl wanted to get out of this hell where that goddamn sky was spread out.

Even though she had adapted to hell, that didn’t mean she didn’t mind living in hell for the rest of her life.

But how?

How could she escape this goddamn hell?

The only exit was the hole that appeared once in a while.

However, that hole also spewed out a large amount of corpses in an instant and disappeared quickly.

What if she could artificially open that hole?

Then she could get out of this goddamn hell.

Just as the girl was lost in thought about ‘what to do’.

Kugugung-.

A heavy rumble spread through hell, and a hole gradually formed in the sky.

The girl looked up at the hole and tilted her head.

It had only been about a week since the corpses had fallen.

But.

Why was the hole suddenly opening?

In complete violation of the rules she had established through her experiences, the girl unknowingly hid herself.

The girl squeezed her small body into the gap created by dozens of tombstones entangled together and peeked out.

And the girl could see.

From the hole that had suddenly opened after only a week, not corpses, but living food… no, people were coming down to hell.

They were slowly descending into hell, relying on the ropes connected to the ‘outside’ of the hole.

One person.
Two people.

Three people.
Four people.

When the number of people gradually increased to nearly twenty, no more people came down through the hole.

Meanwhile, the twenty people who had set foot in hell began to roam around hell with somewhat dissatisfied expressions.

‘What are they doing?’

Hidden among the tombstones, the girl observed the nearly twenty people.

The clothes they wore were of a form she had never seen before.

If she had to say, it was like the clothes described in the martial arts novels she had read in modern times.

Perhaps this goddamn world she had fallen into was a world similar to the worldview of martial arts novels.

The twenty people roaming hell were each wearing weapons such as swords, spears, sabers, or maces.

“F*ck, I can’t believe it. What the hell is in the ‘trash can’.”

‘Trash can?’

Hidden among the tombstones, the girl frowned at the young man’s muttering as he passed by.

The place she called ‘hell’, they called ‘trash can’.

If so, this place was not a naturally created place, but an artificial place created by human needs.

And, the meaning of trash can was probably.

‘A place to dump corpses.’

Perhaps the outside was at war.

And this place may have been created to dispose of the corpses generated by such a war.

If so.

‘Is this the chance?’

The one and only chance to get out of this hell.

The girl didn’t know why those people came into this hell, but she instinctively realized.

If not now, there would never be another chance to get out of this goddamn hell.

The moment she thought of that, the girl unknowingly clenched the sword she had made by grinding bones tightly!

Crack-.

The more the girl put strength into her hand, the more the bone sword screamed and shattered.

It was clearly something that surpassed the power of an ‘ordinary person’.

However, the girl who had exerted such monstrous power didn’t realize what she had done.

The girl just focused all her attention on the person passing in front of the tombstone.

The first and last chance.

If she couldn’t kill the man in one go, she would be the one to suffer.

Therefore, what was needed was a deadly blow and a stealthy blow.

Fear of killing people?
Guilt?

Such things didn’t exist in the girl.

From the moment she started eating human corpses and developed a ‘preference’ for eating only the hearts of fresh corpses, the girl’s heart and mind were no longer human.

Step.
Step.
Step.

‘He’s coming.’

The sound of the man’s footsteps passing in front of the tombstone gradually got closer.

The opponent hadn’t found her yet.

If so, when he got as close as possible.
She would stab the sword into the opponent’s heart in one go.

Yes.

She could do it.

She could do it if it was her.

That guy didn’t find her, did he?

Just once.

Just once was enough.

Step.
Step.
Step.

The girl looking for an opportunity, and the sound of footsteps getting closer.

Just as the man, who was constantly complaining, arrived in front of the gap where the girl was hiding.

“Die-!”

“Wh-What!
Gack!”

The girl jumped out of the darkness of the gap and swung her sword at the man’s heart.

The man was startled by the sudden appearance of the girl and couldn’t even react, and so the sword the girl swung was lodged in the man’s neck.

“Ack!”

The girl let out a suppressed groan.

She was definitely aiming for the heart, but the handle of the sword suddenly broke in the middle of the swing.

Because of that, the blade that was aimed at the heart was lodged in the neck, far from the intended target.

‘No, it’s okay.
At least it’s the neck, right?’

The girl comforted herself inwardly.

Although she didn’t know ‘why’ the handle of the sword suddenly broke, at least she had achieved the goal of killing the man.

As proof of this, the man with the blade lodged in his neck coughed and fell onto the puddle created by his own blood.

The man turned into a cold corpse, not even twitching.

The moment the girl realized that the man was dead, she moved quickly.

First, she took the sword that the man was wearing on his waist.

The iron sword was heavier than the girl thought, but it felt unbelievably light to the girl.

‘Next…!’

Rustle rustle rustle rustle.

A gruesome sound echoed in the girl’s ears as she took the sword.

The food insects, asleep under the hellish ground, woke up and started moving at the smell of fresh blood.

‘Damn it!
It’s okay.
It’s okay.
It’s still okay for now.’

The girl kept repeating that it was okay inwardly and ran.

Since the food insects had awakened, there was no time to waste.

Wh-What is this!

Ahhh!

Help me!

B-Bugs!
The bugs are coming!

Screams echoed throughout hell.

The girl spurred her running feet with even more force.

The movements of the food insects were strange.

She could tell instinctively.

Those food insects were different from the food insects until now.

Unlike usual, the current food insects were going berserk, unable to control themselves at the smell of fresh blood.

The proof was the screams echoing throughout hell.

And.

“H-Hey, you there!
Please save me!”

A man surrounded by food insects shouted urgently at the girl running towards the hole.

The girl ignored the man’s voice begging for help.

She didn’t feel the need to help, and there was no need to help.

That man was already dead.

Both his legs had been eaten by the food insects, and even the bones had disappeared without a trace.

The food insects that had eaten his legs were also eating the rest of the man’s body.

Ahhhhh~!

A terrible scream erupted from the man’s mouth as he was eaten alive by the food insects.

It wasn’t just the man who begged for his life from the girl who was experiencing this phenomenon.

People all over hell were losing their lives, swept away by the disaster called food insects.

They struggled, wielding the weapons they each carried, but it was useless.

However, the problem was that the food insects weren’t just aiming for them.

“Get away from me!”

Whoosh!

Crack!

The girl shouted at the food insects approaching her and swung her sword.

The sword swung with a heavy sound, literally crushing the approaching food insects.

With a single swing, dozens of food insects were crushed, burst, and killed, but the girl’s expression didn’t brighten at all.

‘They’re too fast!’

The speed of the rampaging food insects was faster than she thought.

They used to move slowly and only eat corpses.
But now that they had smelled fresh blood, they seemed to be going completely crazy.

But.

‘It’s not far!’

A ray of hope appeared in the girl’s murky, dead eyes.

It wasn’t far to the place where the people who came down to hell used the ropes.

Maybe 100 meters at most.

It was a distance she could reach with a few leaps.

Screech!

“You f*cking!
Get away!”

Whoosh!

Crack!

Startled by the strange sound of the food insects coming from behind her, the girl swung her sword.

The blade, swung through the air, crushed and burst the food insects rushing towards the girl.

The girl, running, gritted her teeth at the body fluids of the burst food insects falling on her back.

‘It’s coming.’

As she braced herself inwardly.

Sizzle!

‘Gaaaaah!’

A terrible sound of something melting.

At the same time, the girl groaned inwardly at the intense pain felt on her back.

The body fluid of the food insects is not ordinary body fluid.

It is something corrosive that can melt even steel with just one drop.

That was also the reason why the girl had only scared the food insects instead of killing them while competing for ‘food’.

If she made a mistake, there was a risk that precious food would be lost due to the corrosive body fluid of the food insects.

So, the girl ran, ignoring the pain of her back melting.

She kicked off the ground and ran and ran, and at the end of her run.

“Haa!
Haa!”

The girl, who had arrived at the rope, breathed heavily and climbed up like crazy.

Even at this moment, the gruesome sound of the food insects echoed from under her feet.

Having eaten nearly twenty people, the food insects were now building a tower to get out of the hole, just like the girl.

Up.

Up.

So the girl squeezed out every last bit of her strength and climbed, and climbed, and climbed, and climbed.
And climbed again.

Just with the single-minded determination to get out of this hell.

So the girl climbed the rope, and at last.

“I-I’m out!”

She was able to get out of the hole.

The sky outside the hole was blindingly blue.

White clouds floated like cotton candy in the blue sky.

And around her….

M-Monster!

Everyone run away!

Ahhh!
A corpse demon!
A corpse demon has crawled up!

At the girl’s terrible appearance, the many people gathered around the hole screamed and ran away.

However, the girl couldn’t react to those people one by one.

No, to be precise, she didn’t.

That’s because.

Splash!

A black fountain rose from the hole.

The rising fountain then became a black rain and poured down, and the people hit by the black rain screamed and rolled on the ground.

The rising black fountain, the black rain that poured down, each drop was made up of dozens of food insects.

The food insects, having already tasted the blood of living humans, spread out in all directions without hesitation and began to eat the hundreds of fleeing humans.

The girl paid no attention to the terrible sight, which seemed like hell had descended on earth, and just ran.

Running and running.

Running and running again.

And running again.

She just ran to get as far away from hell as possible.
