Fuzi packed up the lunchbox, put it into a bag, then stood up.
She adjusted the IV flow regulator to zero, peeled off the tape securing the needle-free port, and set it aside along with the port itself.
Lin Yuxuan and Ye Qing were whispering in a corner, while Chenlian stared at Fuzi the entire time, her face still completely expressionless.
“Chenlian, can you get up?”
Fuzi, having finished tidying up, asked with a hint of concern.
Chenlian threw off the covers and swung her feet to the edge of the bed.
A pair of pink slippers waited beneath.
She slipped her slender, snow-white, jade-like little feet into them, placed her hands on the mattress to brace herself, and tried putting some weight on her feet.
No problem. No feeling of weakness either.
As if to ease her own tension, she took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, and then tried to stand.
Fuzi stood beside Chenlian the whole time, arms extended, ready to catch her at any moment.
For some reason, Lin Yuxuan and Ye Qing, watching from the side, couldn’t help but feel nervous themselves.
Chenlian took another deep breath, then stood up. No swaying.
She tried taking a step forward. Completely normal.
But Fuzi still couldn’t rest easy. She stayed close to Chenlian, guarding her.
One step… then another…
Chenlian walked slowly toward the door.
Lin Yuxuan helped open the door so Chenlian could get out.
Ye Qing followed closely behind.
Though they were only on the second floor, the group chose the elevator just to be safe.
Down to the first floor, through the hallway, out the hospital’s back door—the exit closest to the parking lot—
Chenlian successfully made it to the destination without anyone’s help.
She nearly fell a few times along the way, but she managed to steady herself.
Finally, the group arrived at a white Toyota.
The car’s lights flashed twice, and with a “click,” the doors unlocked.
The person who unlocked it was Dr. Hadi, who had appeared beside the car at some point without anyone noticing.
He had already taken off his white coat and changed into casual wear.
Fuzi opened the rear door, protected Chenlian’s head as she guided her inside, then turned around and asked, “What do you two think?”
“Of course we’re coming along!” / “Let’s not.”
The two answered with opposite responses at the same time.
“What are you talking about!? If we don’t go, how will we know where they’re hiding Chenlian?”
Lin Yuxuan shouted at Ye Qing, very displeased.
“Hey, hey! You said something you shouldn’t have!”
Ye Qing waved his hands in front of him, trying to calm the agitated Lin Yuxuan, and sighed helplessly.
Lin Yuxuan shot him a dirty look.
“Anyway, I’m going. Come or don’t—I don’t care. Hmph!”
She turned her head away.
Ye Qing scratched his head. “Fine, I get it!”
He admitted defeat.
Fuzi smiled as she watched their exchange, then climbed into the car.
Lin Yuxuan unceremoniously got in after her and called out to Ye Qing, “You sit in the front!”
She closed the door.
Ye Qing sighed and had no choice but to comply.
After Ye Qing got in, Hadi was the last to enter.
Once he saw that everyone had closed their doors, he started the engine, backed out, and drove straight toward the main entrance.
The hospital Chenlian had been staying at was called Shengdi Technology Hospital.
It was a medical clinic and research institute located halfway up a mountain about 500 meters above sea level, on the outskirts of the Shengdi region.
Hadi and his assistant Fuzi were essentially medical researchers there.
Normally, they only stepped in when their help was needed.
But this case was rather special.
Hadi had chosen to take full medical responsibility without being asked, which had led to the current situation.
Honestly, it had completely deviated from expectations.
[Is this really okay?]
He had asked himself that question repeatedly.
But now, it seemed like the only choice. Reality was simply that way.
The car was very quiet. The ride was quite smooth.
Only the faint sound of the engine could be heard.
Chenlian gazed out the window at the view of the distant buildings from the mountainside.
She watched one residential tower after another rising high as if trying to pierce the clouds.
A vague sense of unease arose in her heart.
After watching for a while, perhaps tired, she leaned back in her seat and rested with her eyes closed.
Fuzi, sitting in the middle of the back seat, suddenly felt a gentle pressure on her right shoulder and a soft touch on her neck.
She smiled and turned her head toward Chenlian.
Up close, Chenlian’s defenseless profile was fully visible.
Her soft pink long hair had slipped behind her shoulders, fully revealing her delicate, fair, doll-like face.
“This child. She just woke up, and now she’s sleeping again.”
Fuzi gently tousled Chenlian’s pink hair.
“But even her defenseless sleeping face is so cute~!”
Fuzi’s enchanted voice escaped as she couldn’t resist poking Chenlian’s cheek with her finger.
Ye Qing, sitting in the passenger seat, glanced at the rearview mirror and was momentarily captivated.
But he quickly turned his head away, blushing—because he sensed a dangerous gaze!
[You can’t just casually peek at a girl’s sleeping face!]
Lin Yuxuan withdrew her threatening glare, tilted her head, and looked at Chenlian.
[She really is so cute~!]
She couldn’t help but steal a few more glances before finally turning away, satisfied.
The ride was very quiet. No one was rude enough to wake the sleeping Chenlian.
A 20-minute drive later, Hadi drove the Toyota into a villa community.
Night had fallen.
The dark red sky enveloped the earth, dyeing it like a crimson carpet.
The community’s lights had turned on as well. Every household emitted a warm glow.
Hadi drove the Toyota to his own front gate.
He took a remote control from the drawer and pressed it.
The automatic gate slid to the left, making way for its owner.
The car drove through the gate and stopped in front of the villa.
“Beep, beep!”
The car lights flashed twice, and the doors unlocked.
Hadi got out first, closed the door gently, and then opened the door for Fuzi.
Chenlian was still fast asleep on Fuzi’s shoulder, completely unaffected by her surroundings. She must have been exhausted.
Fuzi reached out to wake Chenlian but immediately gave up on the idea.
Hadi shook his head at her.
Fuzi nodded in response.
And so, Fuzi gently carried Chenlian out of the car.
Ye Qing, who had already gotten out, closed the door.
Lin Yuxuan also got out, walked over to Fuzi, and looked at Chenlian with concern.
Her still-expressionless sleeping face nevertheless radiated peace.
Seeing Chenlian like this, Lin Yuxuan couldn’t help but feel that her own nervousness made her look like a fool. She let out a faint, wry smile.
Hadi had already opened the villa door with his key.
Fuzi carried the light body steadily through the doorway.
Watching Fuzi and Hadi enter the house, Ye Qing intended to follow.
Even though this was someone else’s home, he had reasons he couldn’t not go in.
Lin Yuxuan felt the same.
The two looked at each other, exchanged wry smiles, and stepped into the unfamiliar house.
The white-toned interior had only the necessary furniture—very simple.
Even though it was a wealthy person’s residence, there was no sense of luxury whatsoever.
Everything was arranged neatly.
The living room was spacious enough that even ten people could party without feeling cramped.
A wooden staircase against the wall led to the second-floor landing, but only the opening was visible.
The rooms themselves were probably behind the wall—designed so that even if the living room was a bit noisy, the upstairs rooms wouldn’t be affected.
Fuzi was currently walking up the stairs carrying Chenlian, presumably to let her continue sleeping.
Hadi looked at the two tense teenagers and casually said, “Sit wherever you like. Make yourselves at home.”
They both nodded in turn and sat down on the sofa.
Hadi walked back outside—probably to park the car.
Before coming in, they had seen a garage on the right side of the villa.
And the villa’s house number was 1137, in the New Moon District Phase Two.
Ye Qing sorted through this information again in his mind, then sighed softly.
His chest trembled with nervousness. His hands seemed to be shaking a little too.
Just as Ye Qing was starting to feel a creeping fear in his heart, a soft warmth touched his palm.
A small hand interlaced fingers with Ye Qing’s slightly larger one, passing warmth to him.
A warm current surged into his heart.
Ye Qing didn’t look at her. Instead, he took the opportunity to close his eyes and exhale, sweeping away his nervousness.
Suddenly, a ringtone close by nearly made Ye Qing’s heart leap out of his chest.
Their hands instantly separated.
As if only now realizing how awkward their action had been, Ye Qing’s face flushed bright red.
Without a word, Lin Yuxuan picked up her phone and walked aside.
Seeing the caller’s name on the screen, she hesitated.
The song playing as her ringtone reached its climax, its volume instantly doubling.
The singer’s screaming-like voice made Lin Yuxuan cut through her hesitation and answer the call.
But she immediately regretted it—she hadn’t thought of an excuse yet!
Though it seemed she didn’t need an excuse!?
“Yuxuan! Do you know what time it is right now?”
A scolding voice came through the phone.
“Mom~, I know! I’ll be home soon!”
Lin Yuxuan replied dismissively.
“I told you, Ye Qing and I came to visit a friend. She was hospitalized and only woke up from her coma today…”
“Okay, okay! I get it! That’s it—I’m hanging up!”
Without waiting for a reply, she hung up and sighed.
Then she turned around.
Only then did she notice that Fuzi and Hadi had already returned to the living room and were sitting across from Ye Qing, waiting for her.
[Hey, hey, don’t put so much pressure on me!]
She screamed inwardly in frustration.
Lin Yuxuan solemnly returned to Ye Qing’s side and exchanged glances with him.
She could see the slight nervousness in his expression.
She signaled to him with her eyes not to be nervous.
To be precise: [If you’re already this nervous now, what are you going to do later?]
After signaling, Lin Yuxuan sat down as well, facing Hadi and Fuzi directly.
At a distance of less than a meter, the tense air had been compressed nearly to its limit.
It was as if the space was filled with explosives, waiting for a single spark to ignite them.
But in reality, only Ye Qing and Lin Yuxuan were nervous.
Fuzi and Hadi were just waiting patiently.
Was this the composure of adults?
Wanting to break the awkward atmosphere, Fuzi spoke first. “Are you thirsty? I’ll get some water.”
She started to get up.
“Sister Fuzi, no need!”
Lin Yuxuan stopped her, then took a deep breath.
When she looked up again, her eyes were filled with resolve.
“Then I’ll be blunt. Regarding Yue Chenlian…”
* * * *
A faint song drifted in from outside the wall, its stirring melody floating by her ears.
Chenlian opened her eyes.
A glimmer of life appeared in her dazed purple pupils.
The song stopped abruptly at some point, but its passionate melody still lingered in her heart.
Even though there was no continuation, her mind automatically composed a follow-up,承接 the interrupted melody.
“Thump, thump!”
Her heart pounded violently.
What is this?
It felt like her heart was about to leap out of her chest.
The melody in her heart swelled at its climax.
Chenlian gripped the front of her clothes tightly.
Her body twisted in pain.
A faint moan escaped her lips.
