Lin Ling’s physique was impeccable, his muscles powerful on both sides. A subtle, shallow groove ran down the center of his torso, making his overall appearance quite striking.
Lin Yiting froze at the sight, her eyes widening involuntarily as a flush swiftly bloomed across her cheeks.
After a moment, Lin Yiting sharply slapped her own face, finally forcing her attention to the spot on Lin Ling’s lower back where he’d been hit. A large bruise had formed there, though thankfully, the skin wasn’t broken.
Seeing this, Lin Yiting immediately breathed a sigh of relief. As long as there was no open wound and no risk of infection, it was fine. She then firmly pressed on the bones of Lin Ling’s lower back, feeling that there shouldn’t be any serious issues with them.
That single press made Lin Ling almost cry out in pain. It truly was agonizing. He suspected the car had caused some internal injury, otherwise, how could a mere touch bring tears to his eyes?
“Xiaoling, does it hurt?”
“It hurts… terribly.”
Lin Ling’s words were practically gritted out.
Seeing his pained expression, Lin Yiting shifted her hand to another spot and pressed down with the same force.
“Hiss~”
“How about here? Does this hurt too?”
“More… more than before.”
“Then I’ll go lighter.”
As she spoke, Lin Yiting moved her hand again. This time, it wasn’t as excruciating as before, though that was only in comparison to the previous pain.
After a while of her ministrations, Lin Ling felt as if his lower back had come undone. Beyond the pain, there was surprisingly a sense of release and relaxation.
“Sister, you know how to massage?”
“Of course! Your sister here is incredibly skilled. Sigh, want to learn a few tricks?”
“Ah… well…”
Lin Ling scratched his cheek awkwardly, then shook his head after a moment’s thought. What use would he have for learning massage, anyway?
Seeing his disinterest, Lin Yiting didn’t press him further, merely muttering under her breath.
“He’ll definitely need it in the future, so why wouldn’t he want to learn?”
Because Lin Yiting’s voice was so soft, almost as if she were talking to herself, Lin Ling only caught a snippet.
“Need it? What do you mean?”
“Ahaha, nothing at all. The water’s almost hot, though.”
At Lin Yiting’s reminder, Lin Ling suddenly remembered he was supposed to take a shower. He hastily got off the bed and entered the bathroom.
Watching Lin Ling fully close the sliding bathroom door, Lin Yiting finally pulled out her phone and dialed a number. After a few rings, the voice of a middle-aged man answered from the other end.
– “Hello?”
– “Hello, Boss Qin.”
– “Oh, Miss Lin. Do you need something from me today?”
Lin Yiting covered the mouthpiece and glanced towards the bathroom. Hearing the rustle of the shower, she finally relaxed and spoke into the phone.
– “Boss Qin, your intuition is spot-on. My younger brother ran into a bit of trouble today. I just wanted to ask if you could possibly contact the Chen family?”
She briefly explained Lin Ling’s situation to the person on the other end, but the line fell silent.
– “In that case, I’ll work as your bodyguard for a month, free of charge.”
The person on the other end clearly wavered upon hearing this. After waiting a little longer, Lin Yiting grew anxious, and just as she was about to increase her offer, a voice suddenly came through.
– “Miss Lin, there’s no need to be so formal. I’ll take care of this matter for you.”
With that, the call ended. Lin Yiting finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Inside the bathroom, a hazy veil of steam obscured most of the view. Lin Ling’s mind was in turmoil; first, because of the overwhelming events of the day, and second, due to the frightening possibility that Chen Sishi had completely succumbed to her darker nature.
Though he still found it hard to believe, Lin Ling couldn’t help but consider the worst-case scenario. He needed to change his strategy. Yandere characters, at their core, suffered from a lack of love and profound insecurity.
If he could provide a yandere with a sense of security, Lin Ling might at least buy himself a few more days. However, this was merely a temporary solution; to truly escape a yandere’s grasp, he would need a long-term plan.
Lowering his head in thought for a moment, Lin Ling concluded that Chen Sishi must have been present at the scene today. If he concealed anything from her, Chen Sishi might very well show up at his door with a cleaver. Lin Ling dared not deceive a yandere; they elevated deception to the level of betrayal.
The protagonist of the original novel had already vividly demonstrated the consequences of betraying a yandere. Though Lin Ling hadn’t witnessed the specific scenes, merely reading the descriptions made him wince in phantom pain.
Lost in thought, just as Lin Ling reached for his washcloth, his phone, resting nearby, suddenly vibrated.
Before Lin Ling could check it, the phone vibrated several more times in quick succession. Puzzled, he swiped open the screen, revealing a few lines of text that nearly made him wet himself.
[Chen Sishi: Lin Ling? Why aren’t you replying to my messages?]
[Chen Sishi: Is it because of your sister?]
[Chen Sishi: Always ‘sister’… Why does Lin Ling need a sister…]
In the original novel, Chen Sishi always maintained a gentle persona to preserve her image in the male lead’s eyes. Normally, she would never utter such words in front of Lin Ling, unless… she had already turned dark.
The strange occurrences of the past two days had made Lin Ling believe his endurance was formidable, yet he found himself utterly panicked now.
Fine, no more thinking about the worst-case scenario. Let’s think about something even worse.
In a luxurious villa, a silver-haired girl clutched her phone, her eyes devoid of any spark. She stared blankly at the screen, as if awaiting something.
[Buzz buzz~]
Unexpectedly, Lin Ling’s reply came swiftly this time.
[My Dearest, Dearest, Dearest Lin Ling: I’m sorry, I spent the whole day with my sister today, and I’m only just checking my phone now.]
This was Chen Sishi’s special contact name for Lin Ling. When she saw his message, she nearly leaped with joy. But the moment her eyes landed on the words ‘my sister,’ her expression instantly froze.
[Patiently Awaiting Good Karma: Spent the whole day out? Were you helping your sister with chores?]
[My Dearest, Dearest, Dearest Lin Ling: Of course! Let me tell you, I was absolutely exhausted today. I got hit by a car, then chased by men in black.]
Upon seeing this message, Chen Sishi’s expression grew even more ominous. Her delicate fingers typed and deleted, typed and deleted on the screen, before finally sending a message.
[Patiently Awaiting Good Karma: How are you? You weren’t hurt, were you?]
[My Dearest, Dearest, Dearest Lin Ling: No, I’m fine, just a little sore from being hit today.]
[Patiently Awaiting Good Karma: Hit? How are you now?]
After replying, Chen Sishi lowered her phone, a sickly smile suddenly twisting her lips. The unsettling, mirthless grin sent shivers down the spine of the girl beside her.
This girl’s hair was quite distinctive—long and grey. She was bound tightly from head to toe with hemp ropes, a torn piece of cloth stuffed into her mouth, looking like a captive prisoner.
This girl was Chu Hanxi, who had accidentally crashed into Lin Ling earlier. Chen Sishi had tied her up this very afternoon.
“You, who hurt Lin Ling… tell me, how should I punish you?”
