Chapter 20: Drink that makes you feel good

Nicang was personally not such a bad student.

To begin with, he earned quite a few bonus points just for trying to play Camilla on his own, but even aside from that, he wasn’t bad.

First, he had enthusiasm. In this case, I should call it competitiveness.

I could feel, just by watching him, that he was giving his all to each and every game, and that in turn made me more deeply immersed in the game itself.

I don’t know if that’s the secret of a popular streamer, but having a competitive spirit is definitely a good thing.

After all, it’s frustrating to try to teach someone who has no passion to learn.

There were people like that in the past.

They’d ask me to teach them how to play Camilla, and then disappear after just 30 minutes.

Like with Nicang, we went through the process of finding a play style that fit based on the build I had researched, but after playing a few games, the person suddenly said something urgent came up and just ended the game.

I acted like it was no big deal and let it go, but the incident left a pretty deep scar.

After that, whenever someone asked me to teach them Camilla, instead of giving personal lessons, I’d just tell them to read the guide I posted on the forum.

Now that I think about it, this is the first time since then, isn’t it?

My first student… well, he ran away, so I guess Nicang is essentially my first direct student.

What started as a sudden lesson out of a desire to show the fun of playing Camilla, and because I admired the fact that he wanted to play her, turned into something more because I ended up liking him more than I expected.

Unable to hide my delight, I headed back to the fridge.

“Hm, hm…”

A hum escaped my lips as I looked over the variety of canned beers.

It was a good day.

I made some money streaming, and there was someone who wanted to play Camilla…

There was no reason not to drink on a day like this.

“Should I go with this one…”

Once again, I lightly grabbed a can.

As I felt the coolness on my fingertips, I walked back to the monitor, holding the beer in one hand.

Nicang, the streamer, was someone who denied the power of sheer willpower.

Not in the philosophical or occult sense of the word, but in the mental sense.

He hated phrases like “There’s nothing you can’t do with patience and perseverance” or “If you keep at it, you’ll eventually succeed.”

Those were the words he despised hearing the most, and always scoffed at.

“Some things just don’t work, no matter what.”

That was because that’s the life she, Seolha Yi, had lived.

You can’t achieve things just because you desperately want them.

The world is full of things that are beyond your control, and we are all just individuals being swept along in that huge current.

That was the realization Seolha Yi came to when she had to give up her dreams early at the age of 17 due to an injury.

If people could do whatever they wanted just because they wanted to, everyone would have the job they desire and live out their self-actualization.

But, as everyone knows, that kind of world doesn’t exist.

Most people end up living lives far removed from their dreams or ideals.

The greatest proof that sheer mental fortitude and grit won’t get you what you want.

To someone like Seolha Yi, Napoleon’s famous quote, “In my dictionary, there is no such thing as impossible,” and old folks clicking their tongues and saying “These days, young people just lack mental strength,” weren’t all that different.

They were all just spouting nonsense about perseverance and willpower.

Napoleon, too, was born with a certain talent, and just happened to be at the right time and place for things to work out.

There’s no way he succeeded just by blindly trying over and over.

Of course, I have no intention of denying that he worked hard himself.

After all, the fact that he slept only four hours a night is well-known, so he must have even sacrificed his sleep to put in the effort.

But that was something only Napoleon could pull off.

If you put someone with no talent or ability—or even someone talented, but in a completely different field—in his place, would they have achieved as much as Napoleon?

Seolha was certain they wouldn’t.

People are born with their own strengths, and those talents vary greatly.

No matter how much a dolphin, which is specialized for swimming, practices flying, can it ever really soar in the sky?

That’s definitely what she had thought…

“So this can actually work…?”

Why was something she had thought impossible happening now?

Seolha stared ahead, looking bewildered as if even she couldn’t believe what she had just done.

Camilla was standing firmly, while the greatsword-wielding warrior, Lennoc, lay on the ground.

The one controlling Lennoc was Kayak, and the one controlling Camilla was Seolha herself.

The fact that she had just defeated an opponent who had always felt like an insurmountable wall gave Seolha an immense sense of satisfaction.

[Whoa, what was that?]

[How did you do that just now?]

[That was almost 0.8 Kayak level.]

[Kayak possession mode, lol.]

[Summoning Kayak against Kayak.]

‘How did I do that?’

Seolha quickly replayed her moves in her head.

So, she dodged Kayak’s incoming slash with a forward movement, then negated the damage with W while closing the distance, and then used her Q skill…

She had no idea.

Her actions had been like that of a beast, guided by instinct honed to a razor’s edge.

In that moment of extreme immersion, she must have made the best possible moves without even realizing it.

“Maybe I’m not a dolphin… maybe I’m a hawk?”

[Huh?]

[What’s this talk about dolphins all of a sudden?]

[What are you even saying?]

[Typical otaku behavior—randomly talking to themselves.]

Maybe Seolha hadn’t been able to see herself objectively.

Overestimating or underestimating oneself—these are common mistakes.

In fact, most people in the world end up going through life without ever realizing their full potential, working in fields unrelated to their true talents and passing away without fully tapping into what they could do.

In that sense, Seolha had seized considerable fortune today.

She had shattered the limits she had set for herself and broken through the quiet assumptions and fixed ideas she had been carrying.

Of course, Seolha hadn’t seized that fortune on her own.

Someone had shown her.

Someone had told her that her limits weren’t really there, that she could achieve far more.

And that someone was now respawning, dragging their greatsword as they walked toward her.

  • That combo just now could even work against high-tier players.
  • That was great. Let’s try it a few more times.

Like a gym trainer who keeps pushing you to do “just one more rep,” this person gave immediate feedback.

A person whose true intentions were impossible to read—Seolha looked at them and thought.

‘Is this person a dolphin, or a hawk?’

Maybe they were a dolphin with wings.

Or perhaps, a chimera.

For a brief moment, such an absurd thought passed through Seolha’s mind.

  • Oh, and.
  • I’m going to switch to voice chat. My fingers are getting tired from typing.

[Should’ve done voice chat from the start, lol.]

[So I can finally hear your voice?]

[How on earth did you type that fast while hitting commands?]

[I don’t know; it’s amazing that my fingers aren’t getting tangled.]

[Pros do type that quickly sometimes when streaming.]

“Yes, take your time coming in.”

So she was human after all, despite saying her fingers hurt.

She was showing a bit of warmth, which was nice.

Earlier, it had crossed Seolha’s mind that Kayak might not even be human, but a machine.

The continuous duels and the real-time feedback in the chat felt almost robotic.

Kayak’s actions were no different from an AI that analyzes player issues and communicates them through chat.

But AI doesn’t have fingers. So it wouldn’t need to type that its fingers hurt.

“Hello!”

She couldn’t possibly have such a languid voice.

Kayak had joined the call through the program link Seolha had sent.

Perhaps she had missed the warmth of human interaction during their repetitive training, as Seolha greeted her warmly.

“Teacher! You’re here!”

“Yes, um, my microphone isn’t very good. I was going to stick to chat… but my fingers hurt, and sitting at the computer for so long has made my shoulders hurt too… I thought it’d be easier to just talk… so I came on.”

[Why does her tone sound like that?]

[Oh… gasp… huff…]

[Did you just wake up?]

[Seriously, you’re making things hard since dinner.]

[What’s with the sultry voice….]

[It’s like broth is bubbling…]

Rarely did Seolha understand the intense reactions in the chat.

Kayak’s voice, once connected, had an oddly drawn-out tone, as if it were dragging along the ground.

Even Seolha, in the midst of the call, was taken aback by the tone and took a moment to respond.

“Ah, I see. It’s definitely easier to talk on voice chat…”

“Um…? Ah, just a moment.”

Right…

With the poor sound quality and Kayak’s somewhat limp speech, she asked for a moment.

After that, a sound familiar to Seolha and the viewers came through.

Chhick-

Clack-

The sound of a carbonated can being opened.

It was somewhat late, with the sudden appearance of Kayak, impulsive teaching, and her languid speech.

At this point, even someone oblivious would pick up on something.

[? Is this person drinking?]

Seolha’s question was more about confirming something than genuine curiosity.

“Teacher, may I ask what you’re drinking?”

Kayak’s response came about five seconds after Seolha’s question.

“Ah… just a soft drink.”

“Okay…”

Seolha didn’t bother asking if that soft drink was something brewed from barley that would elevate her mood a little.

A word from the author: TS girls love alcohol…
