Title: Chapter 139: The Weeping Serpent (VI)

Under the clear moonlight, Ewan’s outstretched middle finger was particularly defiant.

Unfortunately, the Silent Moon paid no mind to Ewan’s insolence, nor did it ponder the meaning of his gesture or words.

In fact, the Siren’s prayer, for which she had already paid a price, merely caused the deity to cast a glance her way for a fleeting moment.

The Silent Moon quickly averted its gaze.

The blue moon in the sky remained bewitching, yet it had already lost that terrifying aura.

However, the restraints imposed upon Ewan remained unbroken.

After all, it was an evil god. A single glance was enough to doom Ewan, a mere second-tier martial artist, to eternal damnation.

“Hehe, it seems our Ewan has finally learned to behave.”

The Siren swayed her serpentine tail, gracefully approaching. With a bend of her waist, she settled directly onto Ewan’s chest.

“So, can you still utter those grand words from earlier?”

“I didn’t speak grandly. You, on the other hand…”

Ewan stared at the Siren, then suddenly chuckled. “To be so frightened that you called upon the moon itself—that truly did surprise me.”

“When facing an opponent like Ewan, who possesses an endless array of trump cards, one can never be too cautious.”

The Siren offered a seductive smile, her gaze sweeping across Ewan’s face, a hint of confusion flickering in her eyes.

“Judging by Ewan’s demeanor, you don’t seem afraid in the slightest?”

“Why should I be afraid?”

“You are about to die.”

“Oh really? How do you intend to kill me?”

“How to kill you, let me think…”

The Siren genuinely pondered for a moment.

Then, her gaze suddenly dropped.

“It looks quite sweet. What a pity Anna didn’t get to taste it.”

The Siren’s eyes glinted faintly.

At this moment, the deeply buried jealousy within her resurfaced.

Her heart suddenly stirred with agitation.

She leaned down, tearing open Ewan’s collar, her fingers lightly caressing his chest.

“Since I cannot replace Anna and become a noble divine scion, then perhaps I can replace her in another way. I can complete what she left unfinished.”

The Siren extended her forked tongue, licking her crimson lips, and lowered her head, gazing into Ewan’s eyes.

She chuckled. “Ewan Campbell, I’m going to… eat your heart.”

“Eat… my heart?”

Ewan murmured softly.

His gaze was somewhat vacant, as if he had become foolish.

The Siren believed he was finally succumbing to fear.

Thus, her smile grew wider.

But Ewan was not afraid. He merely looked past the Siren. He glanced at the sky, at the clouds, at the moon, at the torrential rain…

His gaze then gradually descended, settling upon the Siren.

At this moment, raindrops fell into his eyes, blurring everything in the world.

The cacophony still echoed in his ears, and the scent of blood, both hers and his own, filled his nostrils. The Siren sat upon his chest. Through the blur, her slender waist appeared exceptionally alluring.

An image imbued with the aura of death appeared before Ewan, disturbingly familiar.

‘This is… a precognitive dream.’

“Ha… haha, so that’s it, so that’s it!”

Ewan suddenly burst into hearty laughter. “So this is where it happens!”

“What are you laughing about?”

The Siren frowned, perplexed.

What was so funny when death was imminent?

“I’m happy.”

“What’s there to be happy about?”

“The worst-case scenario hasn’t happened, so of course I’m happy. I’d be happy even if I died.”

Ewan’s eyes shone with an unprecedented brightness, and his expression was filled with genuine excitement.

Naturally, this was because Ewan’s greatest fear was that the figure in his precognitive dream… would be Senior.

It wasn’t that he feared dying by Senior’s hand, but rather that Senior might actually eat a heart and become tainted by such vile corruption.

Now, it seemed none of that would come to pass.

The person in the precognitive dream was the Siren.

Although he was still in a desperate situation, just as in the dream, on the verge of having his heart dug out and eaten by the Siren, Ewan felt a profound sense of relief.

However, this sincere happiness appeared rather unusual in the Siren’s eyes.

Do normal people laugh loudly just before they die?

“Are you insane?”

The Siren narrowed her eyes.

As a devotee of the Silent Moon, she naturally possessed mental abilities, suggestion being one of them.

Thus, with just a slight perception, she knew Ewan wasn’t insane.

But if he wasn’t insane… why this strange behavior?

Unusual events always portended something sinister, especially when dealing with a duke’s son who constantly revealed new trump cards!

And… he had just said it wasn’t the worst outcome.

The Siren suddenly stood, meticulously scanning her surroundings.

The street, shrouded in darkness, was utterly silent. Even the distant clashes between the Silent Watch members and the Moon Beasts had temporarily ceased.

Yet, this tranquility only intensified the Siren’s unease. Always vigilant, always prepared for multiple contingencies, she now felt as if the situation had suddenly slipped beyond her control.

She looked down at Ewan, her voice sharp as she demanded, “What other trump cards do you have?!”

“Trump cards?”

Ewan paused, then raised an eyebrow. “Of course I have trump cards, but do you truly believe I would tell you?”

‘Not a lie.’

The Siren immediately discerned that Ewan was speaking the truth.

“External aid? An item? Or… an ambush?”

Ewan was trapped by the moon itself, unable to move or break free, which meant… his trump card had to come from outside!

The Siren grew increasingly convinced that something was hidden in the shadows of the alley, or that something was approaching!

“No, I won’t let you succeed!”

The Siren’s eyes darkened immediately, and she sneered at Ewan. “Who do you think I am? I’ve already made preparations. I will absolutely not allow anyone to interrupt my meal!”

With that, she suddenly spat out a small, spherical object, then casually tossed it to the ground.

Instantly, a dense black mist billowed forth, gradually forming a hemispherical shroud that enveloped a ten-meter radius.

“This is…”

“This is an item personally bestowed upon me by the moon, an absolute isolation zone born from a portion of its authority—the Dark Moon Mist!”

The Siren declared with fanaticism. “The dark mist will conceal all auras, seal off all perceptions, and anyone who dares to trespass will become lost within it, transforming this area into a dead zone that no one can enter!”

“Conceal all auras? Seal off all perceptions?”

Ewan paused, his expression suddenly becoming rather peculiar. “If I may be so bold as to ask, does this ‘all’ you speak of… also include the power of deities?”

“Of course.”

The Siren sneered. “Even if a few God-favored individuals were to fight to the death in here, the outside world wouldn’t detect the slightest thing. So, you can abandon any thoughts of calling for help.”

“I see.”

Ewan’s expression grew even stranger. After a moment, he suddenly let out a long sigh.

“Miss Siren, I once thought you were a thoroughly wicked person, but now I realize I was wrong.”

“Hmm?”

“I was originally considering going all out and self-destructing. But you, going so far as to pull out such a precious, hidden treasure just to prevent my self-destruction—this genuine sentiment truly moves me deeply.” If he hadn’t been immobilized, Ewan would have wiped away tears of gratitude at that moment.

The Siren grew increasingly bewildered.

Yet, in that instant, the unease in her heart did not diminish in the slightest; instead, it intensified.

She had already sealed off the inside and out, so why did she still feel this way?

“Never mind!”

The Siren gritted her silver teeth, deciding to kill Ewan first.

But just as her hand reached for Ewan’s heart…

The sun rose.
