A Sudden Marriage and a Family Uproar

Chapter 22 • 1,924 words • 17 min read

Driven by a desire not to be outdone, Jian Ye snapped a quick photo of the marriage certificate as soon as he settled into the car.

He then immediately sent the picture into the Jian family chat group, right in front of Yi Siyu.

No one seemed to recall who had named the group, but its title, “Make the Jian Family Bigger and Stronger,” was so straightforward it left one speechless.

Despite its seemingly casual name, the group had strict rules. All relatives within it were required to change their display names; otherwise, Elder Master Jian wouldn’t recognize them.

Yi Siyu: “…”

Jian Ye offered a slight smile, stating earnestly, “My apologies, I simply couldn’t wait to share this joyous news with my family. They’ve all been eagerly anticipating our marriage.”

“Understood,” Yi Siyu replied, his tone even.

After a moment’s contemplation, the man also retrieved his phone.

He suddenly realized his own family had no such group, so he promptly created one, pulling in his parents, brothers, and even Jian Ye.

Jian Ye: ⊙_⊙!!!

‘It couldn’t be what I’m thinking, could it?’

He then watched as the man pressed his own marriage certificate close to Jian Ye’s.

The photograph captured both crimson booklets, along with their hands, almost touching.

Jian Ye: “…”

‘I concede. I’ve been defeated.’

‘Not only was this man’s photo more audacious than mine, but he even tagged the entire group.’

[System 748: Hehehehe.]

[Jian Ye: Is it too late to leave the group now? I don’t want to interact with the Yi family elders so soon.]

[System 748: You can lurk.]

[Jian Ye: Good point. I’ll just pretend not to see anything.]

Jian Ye first set his notifications to ‘Do Not Disturb’ before checking the Jian family chat.

He found a flurry of replies had already come in.

[Jian Song]: This is clearly photoshopped. Hey, Jian Ye, you can’t just photoshop a fake certificate to fool Grandpa into avoiding marriage!

[Jian Shishi]: I think it’s photoshopped too. That Yi family member, is he really that handsome? Did you just find some internet celebrity or actor and AI-swap their face?

[Jian Zhengqing]: Little Ye, this joke isn’t funny. If the Yi family finds out you’re using a photoshopped certificate, they’ll hold a grudge against our Jian family.

Jian Ye: ‘Heh, I photoshopped your grandma’s leg.’

[Jian Zhenghua]: Before Elder Master Jian sees it, quickly retract it. You promised your grandpa last time that you’d always be obedient from now on.

Jian Ye: ‘It’s been over two minutes, you can’t retract it. Even idiots know that.’

[Zhu Yan]: Forging a marriage certificate is illegal, you know. Listen to your First Aunt, quickly destroy that thing and apologize to your grandpa.

Jian Ye: ‘You’ve mastered all of Huaguo’s laws, haven’t you, Mr. Know-It-All?’

[Tao Xuemei]: I just compared it to my own certificate, and it doesn’t look fake, Little Ye! You didn’t just find some random man to marry, did you!

[Jian Song]: Second Aunt, your thought process is even more terrifying! If this certificate is real, then Jian Ye, you’re finished! Grandpa will definitely break your legs!

[Jian Shishi]: I remember that Yi family member’s name was something like this. Did he find someone with the exact same name? @JianYe @JianYe @JianYe

Jian Ye: ‘Tag your sister! Can the protagonist’s name be so common?’

After reviewing the message history, Jian Ye turned to look at the man who was preparing to drive.

He inquired, “Can I film a video? You’ll be in the shot.”

Yi Siyu gripped the steering wheel. “You may.”

The video recording began.

Jian Ye first shook the two crimson booklets, then opened them, clearly capturing the steel seal on the certificates.

He then swiftly turned the camera to the side profile of the man driving.

From off-camera, a boy’s sweet voice could be heard, “Siyu-gege, where are we going now? Are you taking the car back to the Yi family home?”

Yi Siyu’s hand on the steering wheel trembled, nearly veering off course.

He truly had no resistance to the ‘reduplicative’ way Jian Ye addressed him, especially when it was delivered with such soft, spoiled affection.

Guessing Jian Ye’s intention, Yi Siyu quickly cooperated perfectly. “Do you want to come to my house? I’ll take you back for a visit.”

“Okay!” Jian Ye chirped.

Finally, the video camera turned to the front-facing lens, revealing the handsome, delicate features of the young man.

“Aunts and Uncles, Elder Cousins, as you just heard, my husband is taking me back to the Yi family home. If you see Grandpa, please tell him for me. As for me, I won’t disobey anyone, but I especially won’t disobey Grandpa.”

He filmed for a minute, then sent the video directly.

Jian Ye closed his phone, exhaling a sigh of contentment.

He glanced sideways at the driver, noticing that the man’s expression was serious, and his body seemed a little stiffer than before.

Jian Ye: ‘?’

‘Is being filmed really that nerve-wracking? Perhaps he just dislikes being recorded.’

After a moment’s thought, Jian Ye spoke, “Thank you.”

Yi Siyu recovered. “I told you not to thank me.”

‘True,’ Jian Ye thought, ‘we both got what we wanted.’

He had only intended to deliberately provoke his relatives; he hadn’t truly planned to go to the Yi family home. He simply wanted to get off when they reached a subway station.

[System 748: The green tea value suddenly increased by 100 just now. The system didn’t have time to report it.]

[Jian Ye: ?]

[System 748: It started increasing when you began filming the video.]

[Jian Ye: Oh? So I must have said some keyword to trigger it.]

[System 748: The host always manages to surprise me~]

[Jian Ye: System, you’re starting to get a bit green tea yourself.]

[System 748: It’s all thanks to the host’s excellent teaching by example~]

[Jian Ye: …]

“You should get some sleep. You look a little tired,” Yi Siyu’s voice brought Jian Ye back to full awareness.

He had indeed yawned several times. He had woken up quite early that morning. He could have endured it, but the car was simply too comfortable, and the interior temperature was perfect.

With the certificate obtained, a major plot point from the original story was complete, and he felt his entire body relax, making him increasingly sleepy.

The young man mumbled, “Then wake me up when we get to a subway station. I won’t go to your house just yet.”

The man remained noncommittal, neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

Jian Ye took his silence as acquiescence and comfortably began to doze off.

His youthful body’s sleep was excellent; he fell asleep almost the instant he closed his eyes.

His fluffy head tilted towards the driver’s seat, his slightly parted lips facing Yi Siyu.

Yi Siyu’s focus on driving lessened somewhat. Occasionally, he would glance at the boy’s defenseless, harmless appearance, and his heart would involuntarily soften.

Driven by this subtle selfishness, Yi Siyu naturally wouldn’t drop him off at a subway station.

Thus, he drove past one subway station after another, heading straight back to the Waterside Pavilion.

The Yi family placed great importance on harmonious family relations. Their three sons, even after reaching adulthood, had not moved out independently. The Waterside Pavilion was a manor-level property, spacious enough for everyone.

They might occasionally stay at their companies when busy, but they always returned home whenever they had the time.

The primary reason for this was that none of the three had started their own families, and they wished to fulfill their filial duties to their parents as much as possible.

However, now one of them had settled down.

Even though the parents from both sides hadn’t formally met, the crimson marriage certificate had already been issued today.

Earlier, seeing Jian Ye send the marriage certificate photo to the Jian family group, Yi Siyu had, by some strange impulse, followed suit, not finding it childish in the least.

Now, he felt an urgent desire to bring the person home.

He wanted to show his family just how adorable the ‘little puppy’ he had picked up was.

Meanwhile, Yi Siyu hadn’t checked the group chat while driving.

The group chat had already exploded.

[Eldest Brother]: You and that Jian family child got your certificate today?

[Eldest Brother]: So what you said when you left wasn’t a joke.

[Second Brother]: Big Brother! You know something, don’t you?! Why didn’t you tell me!!!

[Eldest Brother]: Nothing to tell.

[Mother]: I don’t know the situation either. This child, really, not even telling his mom and dad.

[Second Brother]: Mom didn’t know either? @Mother

[Mother]: No, I was saying we should meet him first, then discuss setting an auspicious] day for them.

[Eldest Brother]: Little Yu wasn’t this impulsive before.

[Mother]: It seems he really likes him after meeting him in person. Looking at the photo, this child’s features are even more beautiful than a celebrity’s on TV. And honestly, they make quite a handsome pair. [Smiling Face]

[Second Brother]: Mom, don’t use the smiling face emoji. It’s used for swearing at people.

[Mother]: Oh, alright. [Sticking Out Tongue]

Not long after, Father Yi also joined the group chat, apparently having just discovered the new group.

[Father]: Is this a group our son made? Why doesn’t it have a name?

Mother: Ah Yu made it. He’s probably still in the joy of getting his certificate, so he hasn’t had time to name it.

[Second Brother]: Mom and Dad, your couple usernames are blinding me.

[Mother]: O(∩_∩)O Haha~

[Eldest Brother]: He pulled that child into the group too.

[Mother]: Oh my! I just saw! We’ve said so much, that child must be too embarrassed to speak.

[Second Brother]: Why isn’t my brother-in-law popping up? Is that a strange way to address him? Forget it, I’ll just call him Younger Brother. He’s so much younger than me.

[Eldest Brother]: He is indeed young; he’s still in school.

[Father]: Where’s Ah Yu? Why isn’t he saying anything? Bring him back when you have time.

This message finally made a certain someone appear.

The image showed the sleeping face of the young man, sound asleep in the car.

[Yu]: Keep your voices down, don’t wake him up.

Yi Siyu’s car was already parked outside the Waterside Pavilion. Seeing the young man sound asleep, he couldn’t bear to wake him, so he simply sat in the car, picked up his phone, and chatted in the group.

He remembered inadvertently glimpsing the Jian family group, so he went through the group members and changed their display names.

[Second Brother]: Little Yu, are you two still in the car?

[Second Brother]: Huh??? Why was my display name changed?

[Mother]: Oh dear! Little Yu changed it?

[Father]: Who else could it be but him.

[Yu]: He doesn’t know you yet.

The unspoken meaning was that changing the display names to their roles would help the young man recognize everyone.

Since the Yi family’s three brothers only had a one-character difference in their names, he feared the young man might get them wrong and be embarrassed, so he didn’t use their full names in the notes.

[Second Brother]: As expected, Third Brother is the most considerate. But you changed everyone’s name; what about yours?

[Yu]: He won’t mistake me.

[Mother]: If we’re looking at it from that child’s perspective, Little Yu, you should change yours to “Husband.”

[Second Brother]: Pfft! [Bull Head] [Beer]

[Father]: My wife makes a good point! [Thumbs Up]

[Eldest Brother]: [Eating Melon]
