“Ring, ring, ring~” “Woof, woof, woof~”
The dual alarm clocks went off right in his ears.
Ye Qing felt something weighing down on him, making it difficult to breathe.
‘Ah, this is uncomfortable!’
The sound of the dual alarms still echoed in Ye Qing’s ears.
“Ah, ha ha!”
As if waking from a nightmare, Ye Qing sprang up from the bed, panting heavily.
“Woof!”
Xiao Bai, standing on the bed, barked at his owner who had just gotten up, then wagged his tail and gazed at Ye Qing while panting “Hah ha~”.
“Haah~, what, it’s just Xiao Bai?”
Yawning, Ye Qing reached out and patted Xiao Bai’s head, then commanded to Xiao Bai, “Down!”
Xiao Bai obediently jumped off the bed.
His phone, still charging, kept vibrating.
Ye Qing reached out, grabbed the phone, and turned off the alarm.
He glanced at the time displayed on the screen: 7:35. He had already slept five minutes extra.
The sunlight filtering through the curtains had already reached Ye Qing’s bed.
He walked to the window and pulled open the curtains.
With a “swish,” the morning sunlight instantly shone down on Ye Qing, feeling warm and cozy.
‘I kind of want to go back to sleep now!’
“Haah~” Ye Qing yawned again.
“Woof!”
Just then, Xiao Bai suddenly barked loudly beside him, as if reminding his owner.
If he weren’t used to it, the bark would have definitely startled him.
But Ye Qing had lived with these two little ones for many years. No matter how loudly they barked or when, Ye Qing never felt the slightest panic.
“Okay, okay! I know!”
Ye Qing casually responded and walked toward the bathroom, beginning his morning routine.
Mom seemed to already be up. He could hear the sounds of her making breakfast coming from the kitchen.
After brushing his teeth and washing his face, he tidied his hair, which had become a bit messy from sleeping, in front of the mirror.
Ye Qing walked into the living room and just happened to run into Mom, who was walking out of the kitchen with breakfast.
“Ye Qing! You’re getting up early to go out?”
Mom asked as she placed breakfast on the dining table.
Ye Qing glanced at the breakfast Mom had made—clear broth noodles with meatballs?
“Yeah, I need to check on Yuxuan’s condition. A friend who was just discharged from the hospital yesterday is also there,”
Ye Qing answered casually, then sat down at the dining table.
“That girl named Yue Chenlian, right?”
Mom asked flatly, then sat down as well.
‘If you know, why ask!’
Thinking this, Ye Qing sighed. “Mm!” He could only confirm.
He picked up his bowl and ate breakfast in silence.
“Ye Qing!”
Mom suddenly put down her chopsticks and looked seriously at her son.
‘Huh! What’s this? A continuation from yesterday?’
Ye Qing swallowed nervously. “Wh… what is it, Mom?”
Ye Qing asked nervously.
“Bring that girl over to see me sometime.”
‘Huh! This is like meeting the parents! Wh-what kind of joke is that? It’s not like Chenlian and I are… lovers! Even though I said those words… Ah, ah, ah! Why am I remembering that black history again!?’
“Mom? What are you talking about?”
Ye Qing asked, scratching his head with some embarrassment, avoiding her gaze.
“Isn’t that girl Haoyang? I want to see her,”
Mom said, actually showing a rare smile that hadn’t appeared in these past two years.
“Hey! You really want to see Chenlian that badly?”
Ye Qing sensed something was off and couldn’t help but ask in a strained voice, breaking out in a cold sweat.
‘Huh, wait! She said Haoyang! I see!’
“I just want to see what Haoyang is like now. That child has had a hard life. And he helped our family out quite a bit before, didn’t he?”
Mom suddenly spoke with a nostalgic feeling, lowering her head and saying somewhat sorrowful words.
‘Huh! What’s up with Mom? It’s true that Haoyang did help our family. But…’
“Weren’t you strongly against it yesterday? Did you see a ghost today or something?”
Ye Qing immediately pouted and said discontentedly. The last part was quite rude.
‘Ah, damn! I talked too much!’
Ye Qing looked at Mom with some lingering fear.
But Mom just sighed, then seriously apologized to Ye Qing.
“I’m sorry, Ye Qing. Yesterday was my fault. I got carried away!”
Mom suddenly bowed to Ye Qing.
“Hey, Mom! I can’t accept this!”
Ye Qing immediately panicked and helped Mom up.
“I got it! I’ll bring Chenlian over sometime. But that will need Sister Fuzi’s approval. It probably won’t happen anytime soon.”
‘After all, we still have to get past the blood test. Although I don’t know why, my gut tells me this operation will definitely succeed. Huh? Is this an operation? Fine, it’s just deception. And there’s no guarantee there won’t be any unforeseen circumstances either!’
“That’s good, then,”
Mom said, seeming relieved, and continued eating breakfast.
Ye Qing also sighed and sat back down in his seat.
“Hey, Mom, what’s gotten into you all of a sudden? It’s like you’ve suddenly come around?”
Ye Qing narrowed his eyes, stared intently at Mom, and grilled her.
“Nothing,”
Mom suddenly reverted to her usual self, answering in a flat tone.
“Uh…”
Ye Qing was speechless. Feeling that pursuing the matter further would be futile, he continued eating breakfast.
“Woof!”
Suddenly, a bark a bit sharper than Xiao Bai’s came from under the table—Xiao Fei.
Ye Qing looked under the table. Xiao Fei was down there, wagging his tail and looking at him.
‘Ah, I forgot to feed the two little ones!’
“Wait a moment! I’ll go get it right now,”
Ye Qing said calmly to Xiao Fei, then took out the dog food from a cabinet in the living room.
He poured a certain amount into the dog food dish.
The two little ones were already standing beside Ye Qing, wagging their tails impatiently.
Ye Qing carried the dish with the dog food to a corner of the living room where a brown rug was laid, then placed the dish on it.
The two little ones immediately pounced on the food and started eating eagerly.
This spot was the dedicated eating area Ye Qing had set up for the two little ones, so that food crumbs wouldn’t get scattered everywhere. Gathering everything in one place also made cleanup easier.
Ye Qing used both hands to stroke the fur on the backs of the two little ones, then returned to the dining table, drank the remaining soup in one gulp, put the bowl in the sink, and began preparing to go out.
He took the black leather bag hanging on the wall down and slung it behind his back.
Ye Qing walked to the entrance and put on his shoes.
Seeing that Ye Qing was about to go out, the two little ones ran to the entrance as well.
“Xiao Fei, Xiao Bai, you stay home. I can’t take you two out this time,”
Ye Qing crouched down, petting the heads of the two little ones as he spoke.
“Mom, I’m going out!”
Ye Qing called out to Mom, who was sitting in the living room.
Mom, sitting in the living room, waved her hand without turning her head.
Ye Qing smiled bitterly and walked through the entrance. The two little ones stood obediently at the entrance, wagging their tails and seeing him off.
Ye Qing waved to them, then closed the door.
He took the elevator down to the first floor, then walked toward the residential area’s bike shed.
He found his bike in its “designated spot,” unlocked it, and wheeled it out.
He lightly swung his leg over, with the large leather bag slung behind his back, then rode his bike charging down the slope connecting the residential area to the main road.
‘I wonder if Yuxuan has recovered. According to the doctor, she should be fine.
Sister Fuzi and Dr. Hadi are surely already awake by now.
I just don’t know if Chenlian is awake yet.
When I get there, I also need to tell Yuxuan about Master.
Sigh, hopefully the inspectors won’t come too soon!’
Ye Qing skillfully rode his bike at a fast pace down the main roads of Shengdi.
