Chapter 23: Confrontation in the Tower

Before going to Kim Eun-hyuk, I decided to sit down and rest for a bit.

The building was absurdly large, making it tiring, and I still felt the aftereffects of the shark encounter.

“Phew.”

As I looked around, I glanced down at my tablet.

“Everyone, it’s communication time!”

[Unnie, me! Please tell me what you’re doing right now!]

“I’m out buying a smartphone and asking people for their numbers.”

[Can’t you just transfer the numbers from your old phone?]

“I didn’t have an old phone.”

[You’re buying a smartphone for the first time at your age??]

[How old is Harang, anyway?]

[Since she calls Raxy Bora ‘Unnie,’ she must be twenty?]

They were all wrong.

It wasn’t my first time buying a phone, and I wasn’t younger than Raxy Bora.

I didn’t feel the need to argue, so I stayed silent.

[Unnie, who are you going to ask for numbers now?]

“I just need to ask Eun-hyuk.”

[The strongest human, Kim Eun-hyuk!]

[You asked Raxy Bora for her number earlier and now Eun-hyuk. Is that it?]

“……Not really. I’ve already asked other people for their numbers.”

[Who?]

“……”

Did I really have to answer that?

I used the broadcast settings to ban the person who asked.

‘Jin Harang’ has been banned.

It wasn’t a permanent ban, and they could rejoin later, but still.

[Choose your words wisely!]

[What the heck;;]

Geez.

People were being extra mischievous today.

Deciding I could no longer communicate, I started to put down the tablet.

Achoo!

I heard a man sneeze behind me.

He probably just had an itchy nose, I thought, not paying it any mind.

Achoo!

Achoo!

He kept sneezing without stopping, which clearly indicated something was wrong.

‘Is he sick?’

Helping customers was my job.

With that sense of professional duty, I turned around to see a couple who looked like they were dating.

“Ugh, what is this? Is there a cat around?”

“A cat? Why a cat?”

“I’m allergic to cats.”

Achoo!

The man sneezed again as he scanned the area.

It seemed like he was trying to find a cat.

‘Pets aren’t allowed in the store.’

Unless it’s a pet shop or a service dog, there’s no way a cat could be here.

It must be for another reason, I thought, when suddenly, the man’s gaze landed on me.

“Cat…?”

“…?”

His eyes scanned my head and back.

Probably the parts where the ears and tail were.

‘Ah.’

Come to think of it, I did have ears and a tail that could belong to either a cat or a dog.

“S-Sorry!”

I quickly got up and ran away.

If I had stayed there, he would have kept sneezing.

“……!”

I heard the man shouting something behind me, but I ignored it.

He was probably swearing.

‘This tail is really useless.’

My job was to help customers, but all I was doing was causing trouble. It was really useless.

Holding back tears, I ran towards where Kim Eunhyuk was.

“Huff, huff.”

As I panted from running, Kim Eunhyuk approached me.

“Did something happen?”

“N-No. Huff. I just ran here, that’s all.”

“I see.”

I couldn’t tell him I made someone uncomfortable because they were allergic to my fur.

All I could do was fidget with the phone in my pocket.

“Uh, um.”

“Yes?”

I couldn’t get the words out to ask for his number.

When I looked at Kim Eunhyuk, I was reminded of ‘him,’ the one who ruined my life.

Every time I faced someone who seemed strong, I trembled and stuttered.

Even though I knew Kim Eunhyuk wasn’t that type of person.

“Uh, um, your ph-phone…”

As I stuttered in front of him, Kim Eunhyuk crouched down to meet my eyes.

It seemed like he was trying to match my height.

“Harang, I think you feel very awkward around me.”

“O…”

So, he knew.

I couldn’t even look him in the eye because of the guilt.

“Harang, could you tell me if there’s something about me that makes you uncomfortable?”

“Well, it’s just…”

“It’s okay. There’s no discomfort without a reason. If you tell me, I’ll fix it.”

It wasn’t him who needed fixing. It was my attitude of judging people too quickly.

But it wasn’t easy to change that.

Still, I knew Kim Eunhyuk wasn’t a bad person.

So, I slowly raised my head towards him and spoke.

“I’m just a little scared…”

“Oh.”

Kim Eunhyuk made a slightly troubled expression after hearing my words.

It was probably an unexpected answer.

“S-Sorry.”

“No, it’s understandable. I’m a pretty big guy, so I can seem intimidating. But you don’t need to worry. I don’t hit people or anything.”

“…”

Guilt crawled all over me.

I knew how rude I had just been.

‘What should I do.’

Maybe I should kneel and apologize.

As I thought that, I was about to kneel.

Suddenly, I heard a shout from far behind Kim Eunhyuk.

“You bastard!”

“Bastard? Did you just call me that?”

Kim Eunhyuk and I both turned our heads towards the noise at the same time.

“Move aside, you little punk!”

“What? Little?”

Two men were growling at each other, their tension rising.

Looking at the swords and daggers strapped to their waists, it was clear they were hunters.

‘This is bad.’

A fight between hunters was as dangerous as a natural disaster for ordinary people.

The way everyone was slowly backing away from them was proof enough.

If you got caught up in a hunter fight, you could lose your life.

‘I need to stop this.’

It was my job to manage the tower.

If I didn’t do something, it would be a dereliction of duty.

But I was too scared to approach them.

Hunters could kill an ordinary person in an instant, and I was even weaker than that. A single flick might kill me.

‘W-What should I do?’

I thought about calling Jinhyang, but Kim Eunhyuk turned to me and said,

“Can you wait here for a moment?”

“Huh?”

“It’ll just take a minute.”

With that, Kim Eunhyuk calmly walked towards the two hunters.

“You wanna fight… huh?”

“Yeah, you bastard…?!”

The two hunters, who had been radiating aggression, looked at Kim Eunhyuk.

And immediately, their fierce energy vanished.

The powerful hunters froze like mice in front of a cat.

“You can’t fight here.”

Kim Eunhyuk placed his hands on their shoulders.

“Uh…”

“O-Of course…”

The two hunters looked up at Kim Eunhyuk with frightened expressions.

They looked like I did when I had done something wrong.

“If you fight here—”

“W-We’re not fighting.”

“We’re just really close friends, that’s all! Haha!”

The two hunters put their arms around each other’s shoulders, acting like they were long-time buddies.

But anyone could tell they were terrified of Kim Eunhyuk.

“Remember, fighting in the tower is not allowed.”

“Yes, we won’t fight. Sorry.”

“Sorry, sir.”

The two hunters bowed their heads to Kim Eunhyuk, a full ninety-degree bow.

“…?”

I knew Kim Eunhyuk was strong, but I didn’t think he was so intimidating that other hunters would be scared of him.

I was a little taken aback as I watched him.

Kim Eunhyuk slowly approached me again.

“See? I don’t use violence on people.”

“……”

“So, there’s no need to be afraid of me.”

“……”

I was scared.

More than a monster shark.

That’s when I finally realized the source of my fear.

Even hunters were scared of Kim Eunhyuk, so of course, an ordinary person like me would be terrified of him.

It wasn’t shameful or strange at all.

“Heh. Hehehe.”

I slowly backed away from Kim Eunhyuk, facing him.

Maybe I’d ask for his number later.

Definitely later.

I had told Harang I was going to a dungeon, but I had another mission for today.

The mysterious figure who had trapped Harang in a dungeon.

Yoon Bora’s job was to hunt him down.

‘He should be around here somewhere.’

One of Lee Taesung’s underlings.

Someone with the power to neutralize electronic devices.

With those two traits, narrowing down the suspects wasn’t difficult.

‘Ah, found him.’

A man wearing a mask, hiding his face.

Yoon Bora smiled as she spotted him.

‘My sister told me to leave him alive.’

There was an unspoken rule among hunters.

Never target the families of ordinary people.

He had broken that rule, so retaliation was inevitable.

‘Don’t blame me.’

Yoon Bora took a deep breath.

She usually kept her revolver hidden, not wanting to scare Harang.

But now, she reached for it at her waist.

‘Four shots should be enough.’

One for each hand and ankle, to make sure he would never move his limbs again.

“Stop.”

Yoon Bora stood in front of the masked man.

There was no surprise attack, nor did she draw her revolver.

Her fighting style was more like that of an outlaw from the Wild West.

“W-What?”

“You know why I’m here.”

Their voices exchanged, followed by a brief silence.

The first to draw a weapon was the masked man.

He pulled out two daggers and charged at Yoon Bora.

It probably would’ve taken just one second before he pierced her heart.

Bang!

Before anyone could even see her move, Yoon Bora’s revolver fired.

One gunshot, but four bullets.

They were fired so quickly that an ordinary person’s ears would hear only one sound.

Thud!

The bullets hit the masked man’s hands, causing his daggers to fly out before they even hit the ground.

Thud!

Two more bullets pierced his shins.

Clang!

His daggers finally hit the ground.

By the time reality caught up to the scene, time had returned to its normal pace for Yoon Bora.

“Hmph.”

Too easy.

Harang had nearly died because of this guy?

Yoon Bora walked up and grabbed the man by the hair.

“Arghhhh!”

“Quiet.”

She wanted to finish him off here, but she had to deliver him to Jinhyang.

Yoon Bora clicked her tongue in disappointment.
