Join the ServerAfter returning to the capital, Gu Yanzhou personally picked Su Nanxing up every day and took him back to Yanshan Residence.
For half a month straight, it never stopped.
At the spacious study desk, watching Su Nanxing teeter on the brink of collapse, Gu Yanzhou finally extended his hand without reservation.
The bells on the gauze canopy of the second-floor guest bedroom chimed melodiously through the night.
From the vast floor-to-ceiling windows of Yanshan Residence, overlooking all of the capital, a thread of unreality still wove through Su Nanxing’s hazy consciousness.
But that unreality faded each morning when he awoke, the scorching embrace behind him chasing it away.
In the mornings, Su Nanxing loved to curl up in his arms, toying with his fingers, interlacing theirs seamlessly.
Meanwhile, Lu Ran had stayed in his Jiangcheng apartment for two days before booking a flight back to the capital.
As he prepared to leave, he noticed the McLaren keys resting quietly on the entryway table.
‘Lin Muze didn’t take the car?’ he wondered.
He reached the underground garage to find a crowd surrounding the sleek McLaren, snapping photos.
Had Lu Ran been following the owner’s group messages, he’d have known that many had come just to snap a photo with the luxury car and admire it.
Before, Lu Ran would have strutted over proudly, soaking in the admiration.
Just as he had on Qiuming Mountain when he first drove the car to Jiangcheng, laughing with unrestrained arrogance.
But now, he simply hid in a distant corner, waiting until the crowd dispersed to sneak into the car, start it, and speed off.
Lu Ran returned to the capital and immediately sent a message to Lin Muze.
[When is convenient for you? I’ll return the car.]
Lin Muze replied after a long while.
[Don’t you like it? It’s yours.]
Lu Ran felt an indescribable emotion.
He had once dreamed of owning such a car, but now that someone was offering it to him, he didn’t want it.
He replied.
[No need.]
Lin Muze didn’t reply again.
Lu Ran staked out near Lin Muze’s place for two straight nights but missed him.
About a week later, he overheard from a collaborator that the young master of the Lin Group frequented Night Banquet.
He decided to take a chance, parking the car on a secluded street a short distance from the club, then walking about five minutes to the entrance.
After nearly half an hour of waiting, a purple Pagani pulled up to the club entrance.
The door lifted gently, and a pair of gleaming handmade leather shoes touched the ground first, followed by trousers with knife-sharp creases.
His bespoke suit accentuated his shoulders and waist, and a discreetly luxurious watch peeked from his cuff.
One glance told you he was a spoiled, highborn young master.
Lu Ran appeared in the shadows of the greenery by the entrance, hesitating for a long time before calling out, “Young Master Lin.”
Lin Muze turned.
In the shade, he couldn’t see the young man’s expression clearly, but he strongly disliked being addressed as “Young Master Lin.”
Lu Ran stepped out from the shade, his polite but distant face becoming clear. “I came to return the car. Thank you for lending it to me.”
Lin Muze looked at the key in his hand, then glanced around. “The car? You drove it here?”
Lu Ran nodded. “Yes, I parked it at the intersection ahead.”
Lin Muze felt bitter inside, so his words came out harsh. “Are you joking? Things this young master gives away are never taken back.”
Without waiting for Lu Ran to respond, he strode away and entered the club.
Lu Ran stood at the entrance for a long while before remembering to chase after him.
He saw the elevator go up to the 9th floor.
By the time he reached the 9th floor, Lin Muze was already out of sight.
He searched all the private rooms on the left side but didn’t find him.
Just as he was about to head the other way, he heard a server say, “Sisi, Young Master Lin’s room ordered more drinks. Hurry up and take them over.”
Lu Ran followed the server from a distance to the innermost private room.
After the server entered, he saw through the door crack that Lin Muze was embracing a very handsome boy.
The room was noisy.
Someone shouted, “Young Master Lin, did you really give away your McLaren? Who’s the lucky one?”
“Don’t ask, he won’t say even if you do.”
The boy next to Lin Muze looked envious and whined, “Young Master Lin, I’m so jealous. I want one too.”
Lin Muze let out a snicker. “You want one?”
The boy nodded.
Lin Muze’s dissolute voice cut sharply into Lu Ran’s ears: “Fine, whoever can make this young master happy tonight can pick any car from my garage—any one you want!”
Lu Ran’s eardrums throbbed with pain.
He stumbled out of the club.
He drove the McLaren back to his apartment’s underground parking and placed an order that night for an extra-large car cover.
The McLaren remained covered under a dark gray car cover for a full month, gathering a thick layer of dust, completely ignored.
At a meeting, Su Nanxing called on the distracted Lu Ran several times.
Everyone in the Su Corporation branch knew that the usually fun-loving, easygoing Director Lu had become listless, as if his soul had left him.
Su Nanxing asked him a few times, but Lu Ran always grinned and said he wanted to work hard and help him pull old Su Bingtian down from power soon.
Lu Ran was indeed more diligent than before, actively taking on many tasks and even stopping his favorite pastime—racing cars.
“Lu Ran, are you really okay?” Su Nanxing asked, worried.
Lu Ran looked up from a pile of design drafts, his eyes bloodshot. “Do I look okay? I’m swamped. I haven’t slept well in three days rushing these drafts. When it’s done, you’d better give me a fat bonus!”
Su Nanxing shook his head helplessly.
Such a hardworking employee made him, the boss, feel ashamed.
Su Nanxing thought that perhaps Su Hao’s despicable behavior on Qiuming Mountain had ignited his fighting spirit.
A knock on the door, and Tang Yong entered.
He held a stack of documents. “President Su, these are the materials from the construction team and supplier for Tianmu. According to the construction team, they found issues with some materials during the main gate construction, but Deputy General Manager Su vouched for them, so they didn’t say anything.”
Su Nanxing glanced at the documents. “What’s Tianmu saying now?”
“They’re demanding compensation. The supplier and construction team are pointing fingers at each other, refusing to take responsibility. They’re waiting for us to step in.”
Su Nanxing thought for a moment, a rare hint of amusement on his face. “Uncle Tang, you can go see my father now. Also submit the other projects that Su Rou is handling.”
Tang Yong dutifully picked up the documents from the desk, barely concealing the joy in his eyes. “Yes, Young Master.”
Lu Ran looked up.
He had just heard Uncle Tang address him as “Young Master”?
Not “President Gu”?
Not “Second Young Master Su”?
Tang Yong returned to Jiangcheng, and Su Rou was also summoned back.
But unexpectedly, Su Bingtian didn’t seem intent on punishing Su Nanxing.
“Uncle Tang, are you sure he only called Su Rou back? Not me?” Su Nanxing tapped his fingers on the desk.
He had already prepared himself to go back and take the lashings.
“Yes, no. Maybe it’s related to Su Hao’s disappearance. Su Bingtian might be too preoccupied to bother.”
Su Nanxing looked up in surprise. “Su Hao is missing?”
Uncle Tang nodded firmly. “He’s probably been missing for a while. When I was back, the servants at the old mansion said Su Bingtian and Chen Wan frequently fly to Southeast Asia, seemingly to search for someone.”
“But now this works in our favor. Young Master, should we begin?”
“Let’s begin. It’s time to settle accounts.”
A flicker of ruthlessness passed through Su Nanxing’s beautiful eyes.
