Ever since the elevator arrived on the third floor, Huang Xiu had been assailed by a persistent chill, a cold wind seemingly rustling through his very being.
As that dangerous pulsation drew nearer, the frigid gusts intensified, growing ever more piercing.
He shivered uncontrollably, clutching his suit tightly as tremors wracked his body.
The moment a head burst forth from the blood-cocoon, letting out a deafening roar, the bone-chilling cold reached its absolute zenith!
His hands and feet turned icy, his limbs trembled violently, and even his brain seemed to freeze, ceasing all function.
His eyelids froze mid-blink, his eyeballs became rigid and unmoving, and his suit slipped from his grasp, falling to the floor.
He watched helplessly as the middle-aged man effortlessly annihilated the flesh giant with a mere flick of his wrist, before turning to re-enter the elevator.
Suddenly, amidst the profound chill, an intense and agitated emotion began to fester within him.
‘So hot, I want to burn everything to ashes!’
Instantly, spiderweb-like red veins crept across the whites of his eyes, and Huang Xiu regained control over his body.
He tilted his head, his gaze sweeping over the two figures before him, the malice in his eyes unleashed without the slightest attempt at concealment.
‘Are these two, one old and one young, truly attempting to prevent me from continuing my peaceful existence?’
‘If that’s the case, then I’ll simply kill them all!’
‘Once they are eliminated, I can resume my tranquil life, just as before.’
His right hand slowly ascended, stretching forward, as his formerly rounded, pink fingernails began to elongate and sharpen into menacing points.
Snap!
His left hand abruptly seized his right wrist.
A fleeting spark of clarity pierced the depths of his bloodshot eyes, and Huang Xiu stared upward, bewildered.
‘What… what is happening to me?’
‘Why am I harboring such wicked thoughts?’
Just then, Yun Ning perceived the commotion behind him.
He spun around swiftly, his gaze locking onto Huang Xiu’s bloodshot eyes. “Huang Xiu, what’s wrong?”
‘What’s wrong? What’s wrong with *me*? How am I supposed to know?’ Huang Xiu inwardly roared at the younger man.
With a sudden burst of strength, he pushed away the anxiously approaching Yun Ning.
He stumbled backward, reeling, until his entire body was pressed flat against the smooth wall at the rear of the elevator.
He then slowly slid down, as if his bones had suddenly dissolved.
“Don’t come near me!” Huang Xiu roared, utterly powerless to suppress the destructive urges surging through his very core.
A relentless itching sensation tormented his scalp, and the school uniform-clad youth frantically clawed at his head, yet found no relief.
His chest grew tight and swollen with a sharp ache, while his hands and feet became heavy and weak.
A grotesque, snapping sound emanated from his spine.
He clasped his fisted hands over his head, and a pained, whimpering groan, like that of a small, distressed animal, escaped through the gaps in his tightly clenched teeth.
Witnessing Huang Xiu’s agony, Yun Ning desperately wanted to help, yet he found himself at a loss, unsure of how to even begin.
Ultimately, he could only turn back to Professor Yuan, his eyes pleading for guidance.
“Professor, what should we do?”
“Don’t worry,” Professor Yuan reassured Yun Ning, “he’s merely been subjected to a massive influx of void energy and is undergoing his second awakening.”
Even as Professor Yuan offered calming words, a flicker of surprise danced in his eyes.
Huang Xiu’s awakening was progressing far more rapidly than he had anticipated, suggesting an underlying anomaly.
Yet, he couldn’t immediately pinpoint the source of this peculiar acceleration.
‘Was Huang Xiu inherently well-suited for the Myriad Realms Transfer Station, or was he somehow influenced by that flesh-and-blood void realm?’
‘Furthermore… this is the first time I’ve witnessed an awakening with such profound transformations and immense upheaval.’
“Do not approach him now,” Professor Yuan instructed. “During an awakening, no one can offer assistance; he must overcome this himself.”
As Professor Yuan watched Huang Xiu convulsing on the ground, a fleeting look of pity crossed his face.
Nevertheless, this was a trial every Awakened individual had to confront.
“It’s so itchy, so painful!”
Huang Xiu clutched her head, writhing on the floor as the destructive urges within her intensified with each wave of agony.
Everything before her eyes twisted and warped, all sounds receding into a distant hum.
Professor Yuan’s voice reached her ears as a strange, high-pitched buzz, akin to a mosquito’s flight.
Yet, amidst such excruciating pain, she was suddenly reminded of that night, of the moment the Pig-headed Man had impaled her through the abdomen.
Back then, under the sway of an intense emotion, her body had undergone a sudden transformation.
However, before the transformation could fully complete, the Pig-headed Man had forcibly decapitated her, bringing it to an abrupt and brutal end.
‘So… is this truly my second awakening?’
“Ah!” Her hair began to grow uncontrollably, long, lustrous strands spilling from between her fingers and spreading across the floor.
She was now in too much agony to even utter a sound!
“Ding! Fifth floor reached!”
As the announcement chimed, the elevator doors glided open.
Professor Yuan kept a vigilant eye on the activity outside the elevator while simultaneously monitoring the ongoing changes in Huang Xiu.
Huang Xiu’s awakening at such an inopportune moment was entirely unforeseen, but with circumstances as they were, Professor Yuan resolved to make the best of it.
The youth’s transformation continued unabated.
Her chest swelled, puffing out as if suddenly inflated.
The upper portion of her slim-fit blue and white short-sleeved school uniform stretched taut, forming a subtle, rounded curve.
The sharply defined muscles of her forearms softened, becoming less pronounced as they were covered by a layer of fat.
Her legs, encased in black casual trousers, were visibly elongating and slimming.
Meanwhile, her once fair and handsome face softened, gradually transforming… into a delicate beauty, almost like a girl’s?
Enveloped by the profusion of black hair now carpeting the floor, Huang Xiu lay in the elevator like a Sleeping Beauty—she had completely lost consciousness from the excruciating pain.
Yun Ning and Professor Yuan stared, dumbfounded, at the entirety of the transformation.
They watched as Huang Xiu, once a sunny, handsome youth, was utterly transformed into a beautiful girl with waist-length hair.
“This, this, this!” Yun Ning stammered, his gaze darting across Huang Xiu before recoiling as if he’d received an electric shock.
He had never in his wildest dreams imagined that Huang Xiu’s awakening would result in such a profound change—transforming into a girl.
And a stunningly beautiful one at that!
A flush of awkwardness spread across his face.
‘What is this? An awakening that comes with a gender reassignment? Or is Huang Xiu’s superpower simply transformation itself?’
Professor Yuan, however, observed the unfolding spectacle with keen interest, nodding slightly as a look of profound understanding dawned in his eyes.
“This is a physical specialization completion,” Professor Yuan posited, voicing his hypothesis. “Since she is undergoing a second awakening, the immense void energy has catalyzed her directly past the larval and pupal stages, bringing her straight to the adult stage.”
The awakening process is typically divided into three phases: the larval stage, the pupal stage, and the adult stage.
During the larval stage, individuals undergo mental specialization, awakening their unique abilities.
The pupal stage marks the onset of physical specialization, wherein the body rectifies genetic imperfections, enhancing itself to better suit its awakened abilities, often manifesting as increased height, strength, or handsomeness.
Yun Ning bent down, retrieved the fallen suit, and gently draped it over Huang Xiu. “Can physical completion during merely the pupal stage truly lead to such a drastic transformation?”
“For Huang Xiu to have actually… directly…” He stood up, pausing before continuing, “…changed gender.”
Yun Ning himself was a Mercury-stage Awakened, having surpassed the adult stage, and had experienced physical completion during his own adult stage.
Yet, neither his own physical completion nor those of his classmates had ever remotely approached this scale.
Compared to Huang Xiu’s transformation, they were all but insignificant.
“Such a drastic shift is indeed rare, but not unheard of,” Professor Yuan stated, a hint of chiding in his tone.
“Generally speaking, there are two primary reasons for such occurrences.”
