Shinyura spoke to me with a cold expression.
“Who exactly are you?”
“What do you mean? I’m not sure what you’re asking.”
“Exactly what it sounds like. Who are you? How can someone like you beat up Baek Jooseok, the headmaster, a top-tier A-rank mage, like a dog? Even when he used a dark artifact.”
She spoke with a displeased look. Most likely, she was annoyed that Baek Jooseok had been arrested because of me.
After all, Baek Jooseok and the Tower Master had a close working relationship.
I answered seriously.
“I’ve disliked drawing attention since I was young, so I’ve always operated alone. I suppose that’s why my name isn’t well known.”
In truth, during my time as a hunter, I used to sneak in and out of gates without a dungeon entry permit, and I never worked in teams.
In other words, I had lived in solitude for most of my time.
Of course, there were occasions where having the status of a hunter was necessary, so I obtained my A-rank hunter license.
‘There’s no reason to draw attention to my abilities when I can already enter dungeons in secret. Revealing my strength beyond A-rank would only cause trouble.’
As an instructor who had to stay under the radar due to certain quests, it was easier to keep my power level known as A-rank and intelligence as S-rank.
It helped avoid unnecessary attention from the Hunter Association or guilds.
The only records of my hunter activities that Yang Hangil and others knew of were those I hadn’t intentionally concealed.
That’s why Yang Hangil underestimated me, thinking I didn’t possess the strength of an S-rank.
Not only Yang Hangil, but even my students thought similarly.
No one would suspect that the mask-wearing instructor who recklessly unleashed SS-rank magic was actually me, Choi Juwon.
‘Even when Shinyura repeatedly tried to scout me, it was only because of my mana capacity.’
When Seol Euna and other guild members were almost killed during the Black Gate incident, I had covered my face, so no one figured out my identity.
Although Seol Euna eventually learned who I was through a complex situation, no one else knew that I had the strength of an S-rank hunter or the ability to cross the Black Gate.
Even Seol Euna, after discovering my magical prowess, cast a contract spell on herself to ensure she wouldn’t reveal my identity, so there’s no chance of my secret being exposed.
Shinyura, now visibly annoyed, spoke up, her face flushed with irritation.
“You’re not playing games with me, are you? Are you seriously telling me a mage like you could remain completely unknown just because you worked alone? Did you come from abroad?”
“Yes, I came from overseas.”
She raised her voice, furious.
“Do you think I’m an idiot? I’m Shinyura, the Tower Master. Do you really think I can’t tell the difference between a foreigner and a local?”
I responded to her with an equally cold tone.
“I answered politely, so why are you getting angry? Did I do something wrong to you? I saved people from almost dying and taught Baek Jooseok a lesson. So why are you taking out your frustration on me? It’s quite strange.”
After glancing at the people around her, she smiled and apologized.
While Baek Jooseok had used a dark artifact and almost killed everyone, he was still her subordinate.
She couldn’t openly criticize me for beating him up.
“Haha, I was just really curious about who you are. Baek Jooseok not only used a dark artifact but also nearly harmed many people, so of course, you handled it properly. I had no other intentions. If I upset you, I’m sorry. Will you accept my apology?”
Feigning an apology, Shinyura shot me a cold glare, making sure no one else noticed.
‘This Fucking bitch has no idea who she’s messing with.’
I responded to her calmly, pretending not to care.
“Since you’re so eager to apologize, I’ll forgive your rudeness this once.”
I summoned mana throughout my entire body.
“But there won’t be a next time.”
Shinyura knew full well that Baek Jooseok was trying to frame me, and not only had she helped him, but she’d also tried to use me as a tool for dark magic not too long ago.
It was no surprise that I was furious as she kept trying to push her limits.
She looked at me and said,
“Quite displeasing. While I acknowledge how you handled Baek Jooseok, this attitude toward the Tower Master won’t end well for you. Are you planning on making an enemy of all the mages in our tower?”
She too was gathering immense mana, refusing to back down.
Just as I was about to respond, a man carrying a sword approached us, laughing loudly.
“Haha! Even the Tower Master Shinyura is getting ignored now, huh? Looks like she’s finished.”
A massive figure, yet with an almost effeminate face. This was Choi Seunghyun, guild leader of Baal, and the only living S-rank swordsman in the country.
Shinyura, clearly irritated, turned her head away without a word, unable to say anything in the face of Choi Seunghyun.
As the leader of the country’s top guild, Baal, with hundreds of B to A-rank swordsmen under him, Choi Seunghyun radiated an overwhelming amount of mana just by standing still.
He looked at me and spoke.
“I saw your fight earlier. Pretty impressive for a mage. Oh, and I also watched the livestream where you cleared the dungeon. Sure, I was the first to clear an A-rank dungeon solo, but watching you do it was still a sight to see.”
‘This bastard really knows how to piss people off with his words.’
It was almost an art form how he could make a person feel irritated with just a few choice words.
‘Well, that’s just the kind of guy he is.’
Choi Seunghyun, the guild leader of Baal, was as unpredictable as a bouncing ball.
He laughed when he was angry, cried when he was happy, randomly did good deeds for strangers, and sometimes beat up people for no reason.
He was an unpredictable lunatic.
Choi Seunghyun extended his hand to me and said,
“Seeing your magic, I reckon you’ll become quite famous soon. Wanna be friends?”
At that moment, Shinyura muttered quietly from the side.
“Friends, my Fuck.”
-Whoosh!
“Aaah!”
Suddenly, Choi Seunghyun swung his sword at Shinyura.
“Are… Are you crazy? Why did you suddenly attack me?”
Choi Seunghyun, with a cold expression, spoke to Shinyura.
“I was talking, you Fucking. Why are you muttering to yourself and pissing me off, huh?”
He paused for a moment before continuing.
“Aren’t you gonna answer, you Fucking?”
-Crack
-Whoooosh
Mana surged wildly through Choi Seunghyun’s sword. Seeing that, Shinyura’s voice trembled as she spoke.
“I-I’m s-sorry…”
“Hahahaha!”
Choi Seunghyun burst into laughter and patted her on the back.
“Relax, it’s just a joke. Didn’t you agree to be my friend? Why so scared? Friends, right?”
“You… You’re disgusting. Please stop with these kinds of jokes. I feel like my heart’s about to stop.”
In an instant, Choi Seunghyun’s expression turned icy again.
“And what are you gonna do if I keep joking around?”
“Haha, just kidding. Why do you look so stiff again?”
Shinyura, irritated, frowned but couldn’t muster the courage to get angry with him.
“Sorry, sorry. Anyway, Masked Friend, have you given my offer some thought?”
“Are you referring to becoming friends?”
“Yeah, I mean, wouldn’t it be a good deal for you? Not to brag, but our guild is pretty famous and powerful, right? If you run into any trouble, I can help you out.”
‘Since when are you calling yourself my elder?’
That aside, getting involved with a lunatic like him would only bring trouble.
But cutting him off directly wasn’t an option either—who knew what this crazy guy might do? So, I decided to turn him down politely.
“There’s still a big difference between your reputation and mine as a mere creator. How about we discuss this again when I’ve reached a more fitting level?”
“What are you talking about~? You’re already amazing, so don’t be humble. Or, better yet, why don’t you join our guild? How does that sound?”
“We rarely recruit mages unless absolutely necessary, you know? Honestly, let’s face it, mages are kind of useless in dungeons compared to swordsmen. Mana runs out fast, they get ambushed by monsters while hiding, and it’s frustrating. But you seem capable, so if you join, I’ll take care of you. Of course, we’ll pay you well, too.”
“I’m not really a fan of being tied down to a group.”
-Whoosh
-Whoosh
Choi Seunghyun twirled his sword around as he spoke.
“Hmm… well, I guess there’s nothing I can do. Forcing someone who doesn’t want to be part of it isn’t really my style. But honestly, I didn’t expect to get rejected.”
He extended his hand toward me with a smile.
“At least we can shake hands, right?”
Since he offered his hand so naturally, I reached out as well.
“A handshake? Sure, I don’t mind.”
In an instant, a surge of mana began to erupt from the hand we clasped.
With a grin, Choi Seunghyun spoke.
“Who the Fuck do you think you are, rejecting my offer like that? Do you want to die?”
It was as if he intended to crush my hand with the strength he was exerting.
“Speak up, you piece of Fuck. After taking down Baek Jooseok, you must think you’re something special, huh? How does it feel now? Starting to realize you’ve made a mistake?”
Just as the ground around us began to tremble from the force of his mana—
“Fuck, I can’t stand this anymore.”
I muttered under my breath and cast a spell.
“Absorb.”
In an instant, Choi Seunghyun’s mana began flowing rapidly toward me.
“Huh…?”
Choi Seunghyun looked dumbfounded as he watched his mana get sucked away.
Raising my other hand, I shouted at him.
“Discharge.”
A massive mass of mana surged straight toward Choi Seunghyun.
