“There’s no need to be so anxious; nothing else will happen for a while.”
Bai Wanwan spoke with a calm demeanor, her words providing a measure of relief to Liu Guochang, whose tone shifted from his previous tension to a more composed cadence.
“Is that so… then I can finally relax a little.”
A woman’s voice, sounding quite young yet carrying a mature undertone, drifted from the background of Liu Guochang’s call.
“But this matter will ultimately require Master Bai’s intervention. Don’t you handle this kind of business? We are willing to pay a high price!”
Liu Guochang’s voice was tinged with urgency, fearful that Bai Wanwan might decline. After all, the profound impact Bai Wanwan had left on him the previous night was simply too immense. He couldn’t imagine anyone else capable of resolving his predicament.
“I’ll come over once I’ve gathered my things. It’s the Golden Hundred Grand Nightclub, correct?”
“No need! No need! Just tell us your address, and we’ll dispatch someone to pick you up immediately.”
Liu Guochang was overcome with trepidation; in his eyes, Bai Wanwan was akin to a demigod. Inviting a deity required proper reverence, emphasizing the ‘invitation’ itself. How could he possibly let a deity come on their own? That would be utterly impolite.
“Alright, Happiness Residential Complex, Building Four. Just wait for me downstairs.”
Having spoken, Bai Wanwan ended the call. She needed to prepare some items. Given that this was a malevolent spirit that had proven difficult to subdue for an extended period, it certainly wouldn’t be as easy to deal with as Liu Hanzhi. Most likely, she would require some equipment to handle the situation.
However, Bai Wanwan’s home was utterly bare; she possessed virtually nothing. Even her livestreaming wages wouldn’t be released until after nine o’clock, when the platform’s finance department began its workday.
“’If it’s an ordinary malevolent spirit, a few talismans for salvation should suffice. If it’s a zombie, then I’ll need peach wood and glutinous rice. For a Western vampire, a crucifix and garlic are essential, and for a zombie, it’ll be 9mm…’
“What are you muttering about?”
Liu Hanzhi poked her head out from behind Bai Wanwan, observing her hunched over the table, drawing talismans and mumbling to herself.
“Get ready. We’re going to take a job and earn some money.”
Bai Wanwan glanced at Liu Hanzhi, noticing she was still clad in yesterday’s little zombie cosplay outfit. It then dawned on her that Liu Hanzhi’s clothes were also crafted from paper by her, and this was currently the only set she possessed. Thus, if Liu Hanzhi wished to change, Bai Wanwan would have to create a new outfit for her.
“Am I really going to take a job with you dressed like this?”
Liu Hanzhi looked down at her small zombie cosplay outfit, but alas, she could only see the exquisitely embroidered patterns rising on her chest.
“No, that really won’t do. What was your favorite type of clothing when you were alive?”
“A qipao!”
Liu Hanzhi’s interest immediately piqued upon hearing Bai Wanwan offer to make her new clothes. Liu Hanzhi’s figure was exceptionally suited for a qipao; indeed, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say the qipao was designed specifically to accentuate her. However, compared to modern attire, a qipao was somewhat too eye-catching. Moreover, crafting a paper qipao was incredibly challenging, demanding extremely precise attention to detail. Even a slight error would result in an unsightly finished product. This was why, during all the years Liu Hanzhi had been unable to reincarnate, despite fashioning physical bodies for herself from paper figures, she had never once made herself her beloved qipao.
Yet, for Bai Wanwan, this was no obstacle. The qipao was completed almost in the blink of an eye.
As flames consumed the paper, a flowing, dark green silk qipao adhered perfectly to Liu Hanzhi’s silhouette. The frog buttons at the collar gently clasped like butterfly wings, and the silver-embroidered orchids on the diagonal placket shimmered into view with every movement. The high slit of the hemline created a subtle arc as she walked, revealing the contours of her legs encased in matte black stockings—like ink stains bleeding on rice paper, extending boundless reverie from their hazy depths. The delicate lace pattern at the edge of the stockings halted precisely at the qipao’s slit, akin to a meticulously designed blank space in a meticulous brush painting, neither overly revealing nor entirely concealing, yet allowing a faint fragrance to escape with each step and turn. Her fingertips grazed the piped trim of the qipao’s hem, the pearl-grey stockings subtly tightening at the garter clips, complementing the jade bracelet adorning her ankle.
At this moment, Liu Hanzhi appeared as a top-tier socialite stepped straight out of an old photograph, every gesture and smile imbued with allure and charm.
Liu Hanzhi knew Bai Wanwan’s paper crafting skills were impressive, but she never imagined them to be this formidable. Bai Wanwan could even create something as intricate as a qipao, and design it with such perfect flair!
“It’s absolutely stunning! I think, we don’t even need to livestream for the living anymore. How much money can the living really earn us? Let’s earn money from the dead!”
Liu Hanzhi hadn’t rested the previous night; ghosts didn’t need sleep, so she had spent the entire night pondering how to quickly help Bai Wanwan clear her debts.
*Thump-thump-thump.*
Just as Liu Hanzhi was about to continue, a sudden, abrupt knocking resounded at the door. The person knocking seemed quite urgent.
Bai Wanwan peered through the peephole, seeing a familiar auntie standing outside.
“Landlady Auntie?”
Recognizing her familiar landlady, Bai Wanwan unhesitatingly opened the door.
“Oh, Wanwan, what’s going on? There are three luxury cars outside, and several people in black suits have gotten out. They say they’re from the Golden Hundred Grand Nightclub, and they’re asking around for you.”
“Wanwan, you’re a good child, you haven’t done anything bad, have you?”
