For the sake of better planetary protection, the interstellar had extremely strict regulations on waste management and recycling.
Many planets had suffered major energy radiation from garbage pollution in the past, turning them completely into garbage planets.
Therefore, the Interstellar Alliance specially stipulated that garbage classification must be strictly enforced. Every household was equipped with a cleaning robot, because if humans threw away garbage themselves and made a mistake in sorting, they would be publicly criticized on the garbage wall.
Smart trash bins could also automatically identify waste.
Since neither of them was sure what category incense fell into—it seemed like combustible waste, corrosive waste, and since it produced smoke when burned, it also resembled gas-supply waste—determining its correct classification was a real problem.
If they threw it in the wrong bin and ended up on the garbage wall, how embarrassing would that be?
So, by the offering table, Mo Bai and Wen Zhaoyan crouched down together.
Wen Zhaoyan seriously looked up what kind of garbage incense was.
Mo Bai leaned his head over and stared at his screen. “Why doesn’t it say?”
The youth’s long black hair fell onto Wen Zhaoyan’s arm. A faint, delicate
fragrance entered his nose—similar to the scent of the pool water, and also a
bit like the faint sandalwood of burning incense.
Wen Zhaoyan rarely had such close contact with anyone.
Yet the youth didn’t seem to notice how close they were. To see the screen
better, his pale fingers gripped Wen Zhaoyan’s arm, his entire head nearly
pressing against Wen Zhaoyan’s chest.
Wen Zhaoyan’s heart pounded. His body felt stiff.
He suddenly realized that he cared more about Mo Li’s proximity than he had
imagined.
Perhaps he didn’t merely have a slight liking for him anymore.
Wen Zhaoyan’s mind was no longer on garbage classification at all.
Mo Bai waited for a moment. When Wen Zhaoyan didn’t scroll to the next page, he
couldn’t help looking up. “Why are you spacing out?”
Looking up, he met Wen Zhaoyan’s gaze.
His pitch-black pupils were deep and unfathomable, like a vast ocean. At first
glance, they seemed calm. But upon closer inspection, they carried heavy,
surging waves.
Mo Bai paused for a moment, realizing that the reason Wen Zhaoyan hadn’t
scrolled to the next page was that he was staring blankly at him.
Mo Bai touched his face. “Is there something on my face?”
Wen Zhaoyan quickly looked away. His ears felt hot.
He said in a low voice, “No. I was just… noticing how much you look like the
little brat.”
Mo Bai wasn’t hearing this for the first time.
No one would ever connect the six-year-old with his current self.
He remained calm. “You’ve known me this long and only just noticed?”
Wen Zhaoyan didn’t answer.
It wasn’t that he had just noticed. It was that now, looking at him again, his
state of mind was different.
To cover it up, he scrolled to the next page, skimmed it quickly, but still
found no information on what kind of garbage incense was.
Wen Zhaoyan cleared his throat. “Let’s just light it.”
After it burned, aside from the ashes, only a small wooden stick would remain.
Little wooden sticks were easy to classify.
Mo Bai had no objection. He told Wen Zhaoyan to go ahead and light it.
There were twelve incense sticks in this small bundle. Following the gestures
the old butler used when lighting incense, Wen Zhaoyan walked over to the
candles and lit them.
The incense quickly began to burn. Wen Zhaoyan glanced back at Mo Li and saw him
looking back.
Mo Bai said, “Why are you still holding them? Just put them in the burner and
let them burn.”
Wen Zhaoyan had the same idea. He inserted the incense sticks one by one.
As he inserted them, Wen Zhaoyan suddenly thought of what little Mo Bai had
said.
The little brat had said: ‘My little uncle isn’t easy to chase. You need to work
hard!’
Wen Zhaoyan’s pace slowed.
Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at Mo Li. Seeing that Mo Li wasn’t
looking, Wen Zhaoyan closed his eyes and softly murmured in his heart—
If this really works so well…
Then… I hope that the little brat’s uncle becomes easier to chase.
After silently whispering his secret wish, Wen Zhaoyan finished inserting all
the remaining incense as if nothing had happened.
Thinking no one knew of his secret thoughts, he turned around and met Mo Li’s
knowing, amused gaze.
Wen Zhaoyan: “…?”
He asked expressionlessly, “What?”
Mo Bai stifled a laugh.
Men these days really were two-faced.
On one hand, they said they weren’t superstitious; on the other, they secretly
made wishes in their hearts.
He had heard it all. Wen Zhaoyan hoped his little uncle would be easier to
chase!
What a reserved person.
“Nothing.”
Mo Bai’s eyes curved into crescents. He had always been very kind to his
believers. And Wen Zhaoyan could be said to be the most powerful among all his
believers. Someone like him could bring Mo Bai even more faith power.
He said to Wen Zhaoyan, “I was just wondering if you had any wishes. If you do—”
His lips curved upward, his eyes seeming to sparkle with stars, and his smile
was breathtaking.
The youth was so beautiful that Wen Zhaoyan could hardly look away.
For a moment, he wondered if the other person had heard him.
Why else would he smile so beautifully and say—
Unfortunately, that was just his imagination. How could the youth possibly hear
him?
What Wen Zhaoyan didn’t know was that Mo Bai had not only heard him but also
taken it to heart.
The next day.
Mo Bai received a call from an unfamiliar number.
His personal terminal was linked to his family number. Only his StarBlog
account—secretly applied for, to disguise his Mo Li identity—was different.
Few people knew his terminal number, let alone a stranger.
Mo Bai’s mind turned, and he thought that the person calling him might be his
little uncle.
Sure enough, as soon as he answered, Li Chaoci’s face appeared on the screen.
Mo Bai said, “Little uncle.”
Having finally found his precious little nephew, Li Chaoci had held back from
contacting him for two days but couldn’t resist any longer.
Seeing Mo Bai on the other end of the terminal calmed his heart significantly.
He didn’t know why, but over the past two days, he had felt an especially strong
desire to see his precious little nephew.
“Little one, what are you doing?” Li Chaoci asked.
Mo Bai said, “Thinking about you.”
Li Chaoci’s fox-like eyes shimmered. He was utterly delighted. “You’ve only been
apart from your uncle for two days, and you already miss him?”
Mo Bai nodded. “Mm.”
Li Chaoci already missed the little brat. Now, hearing the soft, sweet tone of
‘miss uncle,’ he could no longer sit still. He said softly, “Are your parents
home?”
Mo Bai shook his head. “No.”
Li Chaoci coaxed, “Then shall uncle come pick you up and take you out to play?”
Mo Bai rarely went out. Hearing this, he couldn’t help feeling tempted. “Okay.
I’ll wait for you.”
After the call ended, Li Chaoci messaged the guards at the Mo family villa,
asking if Mr. and Mrs. Mo were home.
He didn’t want to see his sister or brother-in-law.
The guards replied that they were both out and wouldn’t be back for a while.
Only then did Li Chaoci head to the Mo family villa.
Approaching the villa, he still worried about running into them. He messaged the
guards again, instructing them to notify him immediately of any changes.
The guards acknowledged.
Receiving no warning from the guards along the way, Li Chaoci reached the Mo
family villa without incident.
Mo Bai was indeed sitting in the living room waiting for him. The little brat,
wearing a T-shirt printed with cartoon patterns, looked soft, adorable, and
incredibly cute.
“Xiao Bai.” Li Chaoci called out.
Mo Bai was happy to see Li Chaoci arrive. “Where are we going?”
Li Chaoci walked over and picked up the obedient little brat sitting on the
sofa.
Suddenly, the tiny earpiece in his ear transmitted the guard’s urgent voice:
“Sir, Master Mo and Madam Mo have returned.”
Li Chaoci’s body stiffened. Why had they suddenly come back?
He immediately set Mo Bai down. “Xiao Bai, uncle will take you out another
time.”
Mo Bai was confused. “Why another time?”
Without time to explain, Li Chaoci put Mo Bai back on the sofa and turned to
leave.
Just then, Li Chaoci’s vision went black. Then the entire world plunged into
darkness!
It was a complete, utter darkness, without a single ray of light!
Li Chaoci immediately asked, “What’s happening? Xiao Bai?”
Mo Bai couldn’t see anything either. He touched his eyes, using a bit of divine
power to see clearly. Then he looked outside. There was no light outside either.
At the same time, the ground seemed to shake. Mo Bai’s body swayed.
“Is it an earthquake?”
“No, not an earthquake.”
Li Chaoci quickly turned on the light function of his terminal. Seeing Mo Bai
still sitting motionless on the sofa, he thought he was frightened. “Don’t be
scared, Xiao Bai. It’s not an earthquake. Probably a problem with the energy
shield.”
As mentioned before, the sanatorium planet relied entirely on energy to simulate
the four seasons, sunrises, and sunsets.
Now, this energy system had malfunctioned, plunging the entire world into
darkness.
Mo Bai frowned. “Then the vehicles on the road must be in great danger.”
“No,” Li Chaoci said. “First of all, the sanatorium planet has very few people
and very few cars. Even if there were, current vehicles have strong obstacle
detection and rarely collide.”
Especially Mo family hover vehicles, which had safety equipment. There would
hardly be any problems.
They just had to wait for the energy system to recover.
Before Mo Bai could ask more, the guard’s voice came through Li Chaoci’s
earpiece again. “Sir, Master Mo and Madam Mo have entered. Since no one can see
anything right now, you can still leave.”
Li Chaoci: f*ck!
He had almost forgotten about that!
Just then, he heard Mo Xiangtian’s voice.
“What’s going on? Why has the energy shield failed in our East District? The
West, South, and North Districts are fine.”
Li Chaoci’s heart raced. He couldn’t worry about anything else. He quickly put
Mo Bai down properly, turned off the light on his terminal, and planned to feel
his way out in the dark.
But just as he reached the door, ‘click’—the entire world lit up again.
In the living room, facing the door.
Li Chaoci, Mo Xiangtian, and Mrs. Mo stared at each other, wide-eyed.
Mo Bai was also stunned. Clearly, he hadn’t expected this.
But he quickly recovered. Putting on an act, he called out, “Oh no, uncle, run!
Mom and Dad are back!”
Li Chaoci: “…”
Mo Xiangtian, suddenly seeing a stranger in his home, immediately became wary.
But before he could question who Li Chaoci was, he heard Mo Bai’s words.
The couple was bewildered.
Mrs. Mo’s voice trembled with emotion. “You… you… Chaoci?”
Mo Bai continued playing dumb. “Mom, you recognize uncle?”
Well, that confirmed it for Mrs. Mo. This was definitely her younger brother, Li Chaoci.
Li Chaoci was stunned. He came to his senses and tried to rush outside.
Mrs. Mo shouted, “Take one more step, and you’ll see what happens!”
Li Chaoci’s feet stopped dead in their tracks, as if he were a puppet.
He really didn’t dare move.
A few minutes later, Mo Bai and Mo Xiangtian were kicked out of the house.
The siblings were left alone in the living room, talking about who knew what.
Father and son sat outside in the sun, dazed. Unlike the earlier darkness, after the energy simulation recovered, the sun was now scorching hot.
Mo Xiangtian said, “Why did your uncle suddenly come?”
Mo Bai said, “He said he’d take me out to play.”
Mo Xiangtian marveled, “This is f*cking amazing.”
Mo Bai: “?”
Mo Xiangtian murmured to himself, “We weren’t planning to come back now. But your mother suddenly realized she’d forgotten something, so we decided to return temporarily. When we got back, the energy system failed… The West, South, and North Districts were all fine. Only the East District had a problem. Your uncle was worried about you, so he couldn’t leave. Then, when he wanted to sneak out in the dark after learning we were back, the energy system inexplicably recovered… This series of coincidences can only mean one thing—”
Mo Xiangtian looked at his precious son. “—Daddy made a wish yesterday. I wished for your mother to see your little uncle.”
And the wish came true.
Mo Bai: “…”
Right. How could he have forgotten?
His dad had made that wish.
Mo Bai had been living as a human for over two months and had nearly forgotten: he truly was very effective.
Mo Bai murmured as well, “It’s so effective… I want to worship myself.”
Mo Xiangtian was still marveling at the amazingness of the Wish-Granting God and didn’t hear Mo Bai.
But Mo Bai suddenly thought of Wen Zhaoyan’s wish.
He immediately stood up and ran to the neighboring estate.
“Wen Zhaoyan!” The little brat ran up, out of breath.
Wen Zhaoyan reached out and patted his head. “What’s wrong?”
Mo Bai grabbed his hand. “Come on, quick! To my house! My little uncle is here!”
His little uncle rarely came. He had to drag Wen Zhaoyan over to build some rapport!
