She Came to Confront a Mistress—And Walked Into a Bigger Storm

Chapter 25 • 1,552 words • 13 min read

It was almost 1:40 p.m. when He Chengxi finally woke up. Still groggy, she followed Pei Du back to the top floor of the teaching building. Under Pei Du’s watchful gaze, Hu Zhuyue escorted her back to class.

In her sleepy state, He Chengxi had lost much of her usual cool aloofness. With Pei Du quietly directing her steps from behind, she walked obediently, listening to everything he said.

It gave Pei Du a strange sense of déjà vu—as if whatever he said, He Chengxi would simply follow.

Worried that his own preferences might be getting a little warped, Pei Du didn’t dare think any further and quickly returned to Class 7.

Before he even reached the classroom door, he heard loud voices.

A door slammed. Sharp shouts rang out. Just from the commotion alone, Pei Du knew he’d walked right into another piece of drama.

Perfect—another show.

When he approached, several girls were standing at the doorway, shouting into the classroom.

“Chen Xintian, come out for a moment.”

The girl leading them spoke with anger barely restrained.

At her seat, Chen Xintian casually played with her freshly done nails, completely ignoring the girl at the door.

She didn’t even spare her a glance.

People like this were boring to her.

Chen Xintian was wearing shiny earrings today, giving her an air of elegance. Rose-red earrings paired with clean makeup—enough to make any male high school student’s heart flutter. And with her identical-looking sister seated beside her, the visual impact was doubled.

Twin beauties were like that. Even doing nothing, they attracted crowds of boys.

Of course, once a teacher appeared, she would need to cover the earrings with her hair.

Seeing herself ignored, Lu Jing felt anger surge straight from her chest to her head.

Completely unconcerned about making a scene or attracting teachers, she stormed into the classroom and stood directly in front of Chen Xintian’s desk, glaring at her.

Her aggressive momentum knocked several desks askew.

The girls at the door exchanged uneasy glances, unsure whether they should enter to back her up.

In high school, barging into another class was strictly forbidden. Talking at the door was one thing—charging in meant that once things blew up, no one would escape unscathed.

“Please move aside.”

Pei Du wanted to get to his seat and watch the drama, so he spoke up calmly.

The girls quickly stepped aside. Seeing the boy, their hearts skipped a beat.

He was so handsome it made them nervous about leaving a bad impression.

When the long-anticipated figure finally entered, Chen Xintian’s boredom lifted slightly. In a magnanimous, almost condescending tone, she finally responded to Lu Jing.

“There’s really nothing between your boyfriend and me.”

Lu Jing—the girl who had rushed into the class—was furious.

Chen Xintian staying silent would’ve been one thing. But replying like someone graciously explaining things to an inferior sent Lu Jing’s anger skyrocketing.

“Nothing? Then why were you messaging him in the middle of the night?”

Lu Jing’s fairly pretty face twisted. Last night, unable to sleep, she logged into her boyfriend’s account to check on him—only to find messages sent to Chen Xintian past midnight.

Furious, she’d scolded her boyfriend for half the night, then came here demanding an explanation.

“Correction,” Chen Xintian said lightly. “He messaged me first. I just replied once or twice.”

Her attention had already drifted back to Pei Du.

Chen Xinmei watched the woman making a scene at her sister and felt bored as well. Shouldn’t she be confronting her boyfriend instead? Why come after her sister?

Was her brain broken?

“Don’t you know better than to casually chat with a guy who has a girlfriend?” Lu Jing snapped.

She was completely blinded by anger now. She’d been fine in the morning, but the more she thought about it through class after class, the angrier she became.

She knew logically that most of the blame lay with her boyfriend. But when she confronted him, he insisted it was just a friendship. Still, even chatting about games late at night felt unbearable to her.

Teenagers were sensitive at this age. In a world where replying a few seconds late was already a serious offense, chatting with the opposite s*x felt like a capital crime.

Taking it out on Chen Xintian was her only outlet.

Her boyfriend played dead. She couldn’t bear to let go of her first love—so what else could she do? Find someone else to take the blame.

Lu Jing and Chen Xintian used to be in the same class. Lu Jing admitted she was a little jealous of Chen Xintian’s looks. And she always believed girls like Chen Xintian—who loved dressing up—were more likely to seduce taken guys.

She refused to accept that her boyfriend wanted more than one thing at once. It was easier to believe Chen Xintian was the one doing the tempting.

That way, she could smear Chen Xintian and feel better about herself.

“Are you sick?”

Chen Xintian let out a contemptuous laugh. She didn’t take people like this seriously at all. Whether in the female hierarchy or in society, Lu Jing was leagues below her.

“Say that again!”
“Are you sick.”
“You—!”

Lu Jing raised her hand as if to strike.

Chen Xintian didn’t move.

She almost wished Lu Jing would hit her. Then this woman would be finished—and she could play the injured, fragile victim in front of Pei Du. Maybe she’d even earn his concern.

Fragile women were best at stirring a man’s protective instincts.

—Chen Xintian was already imagining a wonderful future.

“Classmate, please leave our classroom.”

Xu Tong, who had been bent over doing problems, sensed things going wrong and quickly spoke up.

What were these people doing? The college entrance exam was so close—causing trouble here, did they have nothing better to do?

“And who are you?” Lu Jing snapped.

She had only been posturing anyway. With someone giving her a way out, she naturally wouldn’t actually hit anyone.

But her momentum had to be maintained. Otherwise, she’d look ridiculous—and what would everyone think of her?

“I’m the Class 7 monitor. Please leave.”

Xu Tong was tall, wore glasses, and had a serious expression. Her beauty leaned toward the mature type, and her presence was intimidating.

When she spoke firmly, it was genuinely imposing.

“I’m just here to talk. Why should I leave?”

Even though class was about to start, Lu Jing refused to back down now. If she slunk away, how would she face her friends? What would everyone think of her?

People cared about face. Teenage pride worked exactly like this.

Xu Tong genuinely had a headache dealing with someone this stubborn. Why couldn’t she just take the hint and leave? Did she really want to get caught when the teacher arrived?

Just as Xu Tong was thinking of another way out, laughter echoed into the classroom—a group of boys who’d been playing basketball returned.

“Lu Jing? Why are you in our class?”

Zheng Zhengbo had just played ball with Lu Jing’s boyfriend. The group had split up to return to their respective classes when he spotted his good friend’s girlfriend here.

Curious, he asked.

“Zheng Zhengbo, your class’s Chen Xintian is flirting with Fang Wen. Isn’t that disgusting? If I don’t come, my boyfriend will be stolen.”

Fang Wen was Lu Jing’s boyfriend.

For reasons even she didn’t fully understand, seeing Zheng Zhengbo made Lu Jing’s fading momentum flare up again.

She knew he was loyal and carried weight in Class 7. If a girl from his class was seducing someone else’s boyfriend, surely he’d say something?

“Huh?”

Zheng Zhengbo’s athlete brain struggled to process the information.

Chen Xintian liked Fang Wen? Impossible. Didn’t she like Pei Du? How could Fang Wen even compare?

In Class 7, anyone who paid the slightest attention to relationships knew Chen Xintian was almost certainly interested in Pei Du. She clung to him and chatted with him constantly.

Zheng Zhengbo himself had once been interested in the Chen twins. But after seeing Chen Xintian’s attitude toward Pei Du, he knew he had no chance.

So he gave up cleanly and found a girlfriend from a neighboring class.

While Zheng Zhengbo’s mind raced, Lu Jing grew impatient.

What was wrong with him? Standing there saying nothing?

“So what are we going to do about this, Zheng Zhengbo?”

The girls Lu Jing brought realized it was time to step in and bolster her presence. They entered the classroom and stood behind her.

“This…”

What should he do? Zheng Zhengbo didn’t know either. No matter what, he couldn’t help someone from another class cause trouble in his own.

Especially when Chen Xintian might end up with Pei Du.

And Pei Du was his good friend.

“Discuss it after school.”

Xu Tong cut through Zheng Zhengbo’s hesitation and offered another way out. If they stayed locked in this standoff any longer, the teacher would arrive—and that would be real trouble.
