The Guardian’s Test and Spatial Secrets

Chapter 25 • 1,534 words • 13 min read

“You’ve leveled up? Congratulations.”

From Yue Wu’s perspective, a golden light flashed across Scheffiel Mycenae after she defeated two high-level demons. It was exactly like leveling up in a game.

“Leveled up?”

Scheffiel Mycenae hadn’t realized her strength had increased, only that she felt a general sense of comfort and ease throughout her body.

“Hehe~ Did you feel your strength increase just a little?”

Yue Wu walked over to Scheffiel Mycenae, raising a hand to rest on her shoulder.

“It seems like it did, but it’s not very obvious.”

Scheffiel Mycenae nodded.

“Let’s go then. Those two were just minor minions, only slightly stronger than the previous demonic army. There are still more formidable enemies ahead.”

Yue Wu led the way, controlling the floating lamp to illuminate their path. As they delved deeper underground, the ground and walls grew exceptionally damp.

The demons they encountered also became progressively more powerful. However, Scheffiel Mycenae was the only one who engaged in combat, while Yue Wu remained a mere spectator, akin to a tourist on a sightseeing trip.

“I feel like I’ve broken through to S-rank.”

After defeating the thirty-sixth demon, Scheffiel Mycenae sensed her strength had surpassed the peak of A-rank, successfully reaching S-rank.

This time, Yue Wu observed the level displayed on Scheffiel Mycenae. His curiosity piqued, he opened his own attribute panel.

Sure enough, the system had updated at some unknown point, or perhaps it had simply been refined. His game level was now displayed, and his class could be switched to Mage.

Not only that, but a question mark now appeared next to each of his six attributes, leaving him utterly bewildered as to their meaning. Most alarming, however, was the addition of gender information.

It wasn’t just that it appeared; it also stated ‘changeable,’ which felt like a malicious trick. Furthermore, his personal profile contained nothing but question marks, offering no direct mention of him being a transmigrator or anything else, just these inexplicable symbols. This left Yue Wu utterly perplexed.

“This is merely the lowest rung of the strong. If I’m not mistaken, your strength should be comparable to my Imperial Father’s.”

“Why would you think that?”

“Because I am a woman.”

“A woman? No, no, no, what does that have to do with women? Do women have the ability to divine strength?”

“You can’t say that. A woman’s intuition is usually very accurate.”

“But you’re not a woman yet; you’re still a maiden, not yet an adult.”

“Who said I’m not an adult? I’m seventeen!”

“Seventeen? Isn’t that still a maiden?”

“Don’t you know that you’re considered an adult at fifteen?”

“Uh, I really didn’t know.”

“I’m starting to suspect you’re a savage.”

“Indeed. My past self lived in darkness, constantly wallowing in decadence. So, yes, you could say I was a savage.”

“Are you a survivor of ‘that’ incident?”

“What incident?”

“You don’t know?”

“No, what was it?”

“Nothing.”

As their conversation continued, the atmosphere between them gradually grew tense. To break the silence, Yue Wu chose to change the subject.

“Let’s talk about you.”

“Talk about what?”

“Talk about your affairs.”

“My affairs? Eh?!”

“Like your hobbies, what colors you like, what things you enjoy, and so on.”

“Isn’t this a bit too fast?!”

“Too fast for what?”

“Are you not planning to propose to me?”

“Uh, eh!!!”

“You’re not?”

Seeing that Yue Wu wasn’t planning to propose or confess his feelings, Scheffiel Mycenae couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.

“No, no, no, that’s impossible for me.”

Yue Wu shook his head, answering her with utmost seriousness.

“Then why did you ask me those questions?”

“Isn’t that perfectly normal between friends?”

“Is it really normal?”

“Isn’t it?”

“What do you think? Asking a woman such personal questions so casually is quite rude.”

“But I don’t feel it’s rude at all.”

“…”

“Scheffiel Mycenae?”

“Tell me, may I ask you a rude question?”

“You may, as long as it’s something I can answer.”

“Do you perhaps lack an understanding of etiquette and common sense?”

“Uh, hahaha~ It seems so.”

“It’s not ‘it seems so’; you genuinely lack an understanding of etiquette and common sense.”

“I prefer to do things my own way. I don’t like being bound by rules.”

“That’s not a valid reason to refuse.”

“Ahahaha~”

“I can’t believe you can still laugh.”

“Being human, the most important thing is to be happy, right~!”

“You’re certainly not wrong, but have you ever met anyone who was truly happy?”

“Yes.”

“Where?”

“Right here.”

“You?”

“That’s right, I’m the happiest person in the world, free from worries.”

“I can’t argue with you.”

Faced with Yue Wu’s roguish demeanor, Scheffiel Mycenae found herself utterly helpless. Yue Wu’s personality was incredibly cheeky, almost to an extreme. If he didn’t possess such strength, he likely wouldn’t survive long in this world.

“Why are you so determined to enter the Catacombs? Is there something you need inside?”

Scheffiel Mycenae was extremely curious about Yue Wu’s insistence on entering the Catacombs, wondering what his true purpose might be.

“Didn’t I say? To fight monsters, uh, to adventure.”

Yue Wu offered Scheffiel Mycenae an elegant yet slightly awkward smile.

“Truly no other objective?”

Scheffiel Mycenae remained unconvinced.

“To get some fresh air—is that a valid reason?”

“No.”

“Then going out to play, adventure, and seek thrills should be acceptable, right?”

“I truly don’t understand what you powerful people think about.”

“That’s called individuality.”

“I don’t get it.”

In the deepest, dimmest part of the Catacombs, illuminated by only a single lamp, Yue Wu and Scheffiel Mycenae felt no tension whatsoever. Instead, they chatted happily as they walked, completely as if they were on a leisurely outing, having entirely forgotten that this place led to the Demon Realm.

“Humans, leave this place, or die!”

Just as Yue Wu and Scheffiel Mycenae were nearing the end of the Catacombs, a deep, resonant male voice boomed. He attempted to scare away the two intruding humans with his tone and imposing aura.

“Alright.”

Yue Wu agreed without a moment’s hesitation, leaving Scheffiel Mycenae utterly dumbfounded. She strongly suspected Yue Wu was completely insane.

“Then leave immediately.”

The owner of the voice instantly lowered his imposing aura.

“However, I have a question for you.”

Yue Wu’s departure came with conditions; otherwise, it would be a disservice to the purpose of his visit.

“Ask away. What is it?”

The owner of the voice grew slightly impatient.

“Are you the commander responsible for guarding the entrance to the Demon Realm here?”

Yue Wu inquired.

“That’s right, I am Adia, one of the commanders guarding the many entrances to the Demon Realm.”

The owner of the voice answered directly, hoping to make this human leave sooner.

“Excellent, then. Fight me, and once we’re done, I’ll leave.”

This was Yue Wu’s true objective in coming here: to challenge the dungeon boss, the very guardian of the Catacombs.

“Human, are you courting death?”

Upon hearing a human wish to challenge him, the owner of the voice nearly burst into laughter. How could a mere human possibly challenge an elite demon? This was nothing more than entertainment to pass the time.

“Are you scared?”

Yue Wu paid no mind to Scheffiel Mycenae, who was tugging at his clothes from behind. Instead, he directly challenged the guardian.

This so-called demonic commander, guarding the entrance to the Demon Realm, struck Scheffiel Mycenae with sheer terror. The aura he exuded was akin to facing her own Imperial Father, causing her body to tremble uncontrollably.

“Scared? I, Adia, have been appointed by my Emperor to guard this place for hundreds of years. In that time, I’ve encountered countless humans who claimed to be strong, only for them to perish here in just a few moves.”

Yue Wu looked around curiously, discovering many human skeletons piled in a corner of the wall. Each of them wore a ring on their hand.

“Scheffiel Mycenae, go over there and collect those rings. They’re good stuff.”

Yue Wu turned his head to tell Scheffiel Mycenae.

“That’s disrespectful to the dead.”

Scheffiel Mycenae had no desire to do something so unscrupulous.

“What if the rings on their hands are all spatial rings?”

Yue Wu’s words left Scheffiel Mycenae stunned. She had once read in a book that, approximately a thousand years ago, an alchemist with a unique spatial attribute had appeared on the O Continent. He had introduced spatial rings, making travel convenient for everyone. However, one day, these spatial rings mysteriously vanished from the O Continent, and the alchemist himself disappeared at the same time.
