No sound came from my sister in the living room.
I frowned, quickly slipped off my shoes, and stepped inside.
“Li Qingchen…”
Seeing me enter, Lin Shujing followed close behind.
“Class Monitor, please wait downstairs for now.”
I quickly changed into my slippers. After a brief greeting to the Class Monitor, I hurried towards Li Qingcheng’s room.
My sister’s room was on the second floor, directly next to mine.
While the first floor was tiled, the second floor featured wooden floorboards.
My hurried steps caused the wood to creak loudly with every stride I took upstairs.
I quickly reached Li Qingcheng’s door.
Without even knocking, I pushed it open and stepped inside—a room I hadn’t entered in three years.
“Sister, are you alright?!”
I cried out, my voice laced with urgency.
Inside, a dim, overhead light cast a faint glow.
The shelves and cabinets were adorned with an array of terrifying ghost dolls, creating an exceptionally eerie atmosphere.
‘Ugh, I hadn’t been in this room for years, and these things had multiplied. How did this girl even sleep in here with the lights off?’
However, this was no time for complaining.
My gaze swept across the room, landing on Li Qingcheng curled up on her bed, trembling uncontrollably.
Alarmed, I hastily tossed my backpack aside.
I rushed to Li Qingcheng’s bedside, cradled her shoulders, and pulled her into my embrace.
“What’s wrong, little sister?” I asked, concern lacing my voice.
Li Qingcheng’s tightly closed eyes struggled open a sliver.
Upon seeing me, her lips pressed into a thin line, and she managed to whisper, “Brother, I’m dying…”
“What exactly happened to you?”
I asked, my face etched with anxiety.
Li Qingcheng slowly clutched her pleated blue school skirt.
She spoke with a hint of grievance, “Down there… I’m bleeding…”
“What? Let me see.”
As I spoke, I instinctively reached out to lift my sister’s skirt.
Suddenly!
A flying kick struck my face.
I couldn’t defend myself.
Before I knew it, a flash of pink blurred past my eyes, and I was sent sprawling off the bed.
Li Qingcheng, meanwhile, settled back onto it.
“Li Qingchen, that’s a crime!”
The Class Monitor stood her ground, arms crossed, gazing down at me sprawled on the floor.
Her expression clearly conveyed, ‘Good thing I arrived in time, or Li Qingchen would be heading to jail.’
‘Jail, my foot! I was just worried about my sister, alright?’
‘And Class Monitor, didn’t I tell you to stay downstairs? Why did you come up?’
‘Our school uniform has a skirt, and you just pulled a flying kick. I definitely won’t tell you that I saw pink!’
“Ow, ow, ow.”
Clutching my face, I scrambled up from the floor and glared at Lin Shujing.
“Class Monitor, what was that for?! I was just trying to check on my sister!”
Lin Shujing shot me an exasperated look.
She retorted, “Is that how a brother ‘checks on’ his sister? You were molesting a minor!”
‘Ah, truly worthy of someone who’ll become a policewoman in the future; her words are so sharp and structured.’
‘No, this isn’t the time for admiration.’
I hesitated, then turned my head.
“Well, she was the one who said she felt uncomfortable down there.”
“So you just lift her skirt? Honestly, Li Qingchen, you’re so clumsy and reckless.”
Lin Shujing sighed.
“Nag, nag, nag.”
I said, rolling my eyes.
Lin Shujing glanced at Li Qingcheng, who lay trembling on the bed with her eyes still closed.
She then cast a sidelong look at me. “Fine, I’ll check on her. Li Qingchen, you should step out for now.”
“Oh.”
Without a word, I turned and left the room, pulling the door shut behind me.
There was nothing for it.
It was indeed inappropriate for me to examine Li Qingcheng’s condition, so Lin Shujing was the more suitable choice.
I settled into a corner of the hallway, quietly waiting for Lin Shujing to finish her examination.
Before long, Lin Shujing finished.
She opened the door and beckoned me inside.
I quickly stood up and entered the room.
Inside, Li Qingcheng was already tucked into bed, sound asleep beneath the covers.
I turned to Lin Shujing and asked, “Class Monitor, how is my sister?”
Lin Shujing looked at me with a hint of reproach.
“Honestly, you really don’t pay enough attention to your sister, do you?”
Her words left me utterly bewildered.
“Me? What did I do?” I asked, confused.
The Class Monitor sighed, pressing a hand to her forehead.
“Your sister’s gotten her period, and she’s experiencing menstrual cramps!”
“Oh…”
I blinked, stunned for a moment, before the realization dawned on me.
“You said what? Menstrual cramps?!”
