Guild War Prep and Soju Shenanigans

Chapter 26993 words9 min read

After a quick shower, I grabbed soju and beer from the fridge.
Youngyoon passed out so fast, the bit I drank barely counted.

Unsatisfying, to say the least.
Pouring beer and soju into a glass by eye, I clinked chopsticks for a fizzing somaek.
Solo drinking calls for somaek over a bomb shot.

The foam and smooth taste earned my own applause.
I always make killer somaek, but this was perfection.

This is why we drink!
Emptying the glass and pouring another, I booted the computer.
A little tipsy or a lot, gaming’s the natural follow-up, right?

Logging in, the character select screen appeared.

DontOrderMe’s name stood out.
Toweling my damp hair, I sipped and clicked my Berserker—only class I know or care about.

[Guild/OneHitForTheLord: Welcome.]

[Guild/Beta: SoonHa~ (SoonToDie hi ㅎ)]

[Guild/DontOrderMe: Yo yo ㅎㅇ]

Already office workers’ off-hours?
Seeing Beta and OneHit in their usual spots, I tilted my head.

[Guild/Beta: Perfect timing.]

[Guild/Beta: Was waiting to tell you something.]

[Guild/DontOrderMe: ?]

What’s up?
Sipping somaek, I blinked slowly at her chat.
Probably no big deal—if it was serious, she’d have whispered.
But the next message proved me wrong.

[Guild/Beta: Guild war with Myth soon ㅎ]

“…Huh?”

Out of nowhere?

[Guild/DontOrderMe: Why..?]

[Guild/Beta: Easter’s throwing a fit ㅎ…]

[Guild/Beta: Our guild’s made of Myth defectors, right?]

[Guild/Beta: Seems they’re salty about it.]

I couldn’t wrap my head around it.
Who cares if we left and made a new guild?
Why’s he making a fuss?

[Guild/Beta: What’d he say…]

[Guild/Beta: Heard their main raiders left, so they’re washed up.]

[Guild/Beta: Easter’s loaded, famous on the boards.]

[Guild/Beta: Wants to show their guild’s still great without us.]

[Guild/DontOrderMe: Gotta care about that in a game?]

[Guild/Beta: Exactly!!!]

Beta’s furious chat flew in.
Reading it, I mixed another somaek.
Guild war sounds fun—I’d join—but it might be boring.

“They lost their main raiders, probably trash now.”

Me, Beta, and OneHit left—a tank, DPS, and healer, perfectly balanced.
Comparing old Myth’s strength to RunawayTrain’s, I sipped and calculated mentally.

[Guild/DontOrderMe: They’re prob garbage?]

[Guild/Beta: Think so too ㅎㅎ]

[Guild/OneHitForTheLord: Not sure we’re okay…]

[Guild/OneHitForTheLord: We’re way outnumbered.]

OneHit’s chat made me go, “Oh.”
I forgot—focused on per-player strength, not numbers.

[Guild/OneHitForTheLord: If they zerg rush, we’re done. They’ve got insane numbers… nine times out of ten, it’s a zerg tactic.]

[Guild/DontOrderMe: Ah… uh… quality over quantity…?]

[Guild/Beta: PatchNote’s with us, we’ll be fine, right?]

[Guild/Beta: He messed up once, but his DPS is one-man-army level ㅎ]

“That’s a bit…”

Dragging PatchNote into this feels wrong.
Sure, we raid together, formed a group, and are guildmates, but he’s got no ties to Myth’s drama.

[Guild/DontOrderMe: He crushed HolyStar’s crew, sure, but isn’t it iffy?]

[Guild/Beta: ? Why HolyStar?]

[Guild/OneHitForTheLord: Isn’t that Transparent’s guild?]

[Guild/DontOrderMe: During main quest, Transparent camped me.]

[Guild/DontOrderMe: He said, “Can I kill him?” and soloed an 8-man party.]

[Guild/DontOrderMe: Said “3 minutes” and actually finished in 3. Their guild should be 3-Minute-Curry.]

[Guild/OneHitForTheLord: lolololololol]

[Guild/Beta: lolol Yo, let’s ask him, he might say yes?!?!!!1]

It’s not about permission—I don’t want to bother him.
But the majority voted to ask, crushing my lone dissent.
Respect the minority!
Am I not human?

Grumbling, I got picked to ask PatchNote because he’s CameToDie’s main.
If we were close, I’d have asked directly.
We barely know each other!

[Guild/DontOrderMe: Why me?]

[Guild/Beta: He’s CameToDie ㅎㅎ Seems to like you ㅎㅎㅎ]

[Guild/DontOrderMe: I’m quitting Freesia, thanks for everything.]

[Guild/Beta: Nooo, don’t go, you can’t, hihihi lol]

[Guild/DontOrderMe: Why you like this; you know me? ;;]

[Guild/PotteryMaster: lolololol]

Sighing at Beta’s relentless persuasion, I stared at PatchNote’s offline name.

[Guild/DontOrderMe: Well… he’s not here, I’ll ask later…]

[Guild Member PatchNote has logged in.]

“Damn, what timing.”

Perfect, infuriating timing.
Is he eavesdropping?

Clutching my forehead, lamenting life, guildmates spammed welcomes.
Biting my lip nervously, I figured I’d better ask.
Taking a deep breath, I whispered.

[Whisper/DontOrderMe>PatchNote: Got time?]

[Whisper/PatchNote>DontOrderMe: Yup, of course.]

“Why’s he so fast?”

Scratching my head at his instant reply, I wondered where to start.
Say we’re having a guild war and need help?
That good enough?

[Whisper/DontOrderMe>PatchNote: So… we’re…]

[Whisper/DontOrderMe>PatchNote: Might have a guild war…]

[Whisper/PatchNote>DontOrderMe: When? I’ll clear my schedule.]

*Cough.*

He just asked when and who, no context.
Shouldn’t he ask why it’s happening?
What if we started it?
Aren’t streamers sensitive about this stuff?

[Whisper/DontOrderMe>PatchNote: You sure?]

[Whisper/DontOrderMe>PatchNote: Streamers are touchy about this, right?]

[Whisper/PatchNote>DontOrderMe: It’s a hobby, doesn’t matter.]

[Whisper/PatchNote>DontOrderMe: I’m a guildmate, can’t skip a guild war.]

He brushed it off like it’s nothing.
While I paused, he switched to guild chat.

[Guild/PatchNote: When’s the war?]

[Guild/Beta: Think they’ll start it, so we’re waiting ^^]

[Guild/Beta: PatchNote’s here, I feel secure ^^]

[Guild/PotteryMaster: Like a warm bowl of gukbap in winter ^^]

[Guild/Beta: Oh, PotteryMaster feels it too? Me too ^^]

Their cheesy comments made me laugh.
What a crew.
The subtle worry from whispering PatchNote vanished.
When the war starts, Beta’ll probably steamroll everyone despite the talk.
No need to see it to know it.

Before the war, I headed to the forge for enhancements, then remembered the piles of stones and gold I’d dumped into my gear.

I’m broke.
