Su Xiaoxiao tended to her fish with utmost diligence; in Xiyue’s absence, she would often find herself bending down to converse with the little creatures, simply to stave off boredom.
Gu Yan had once mentioned that a spiritual ley line lay buried beneath the courtyard, suggesting that perhaps in a thousand years, the fish in the pond might awaken to sentience.
Su Xiaoxiao, filled with eager anticipation, was exceptionally meticulous during her daily feeding of the fish.
Now, with their demise at Xiyue’s hands, she was utterly heartbroken, unwilling to even exchange a few words with Xiyue.
‘A pond full of unsentient creatures, yet Su Xiaoxiao cares so deeply,’ Xiyue thought, a malicious flicker in her mind. ‘Perhaps their deaths are for the best.’
To Xiyue’s chagrin, Su Xiaoxiao refused to speak to her for days. Even when Xiyue tormented her in bed, Su Xiaoxiao would not utter a sound, instead, she would lash out with her smooth, tender feet, striking Xiyue’s face repeatedly as if to vent her profound anger.

When Xiyue finally regained her composure, Su Xiaoxiao was already curled into a tight ball, utterly motionless, not even a faint whimper escaping her lips.
This incident only fueled Su Xiaoxiao’s resentment, and the following day, she not only refused to speak to Xiyue but also wouldn’t grant her even a fleeting glance of goodwill.
Even the notoriously arrogant and unrestrained Xiyue understood that she ought to placate this ‘little fish.’
Unable to entirely shed her pride, she could only offer a rather stiff suggestion to Su Xiaoxiao:
