A Very Good Person

Chapter 27 • 1,233 words • 11 min read

Two more people joined the carriage, but Lu Chang’an felt as though they might as well not have been there.

Whether it was the young girl sitting inside the carriage or the old man seated outside, neither had spoken a word since boarding.

Lu Chang’an had no idea what was happening inside the carriage, but as for outside…

The old man’s face remained dark and gloomy for a long time, only softening as they neared the town.

“Thank you for your help.”

“I am Mo Danqing, a physician.”

“If you ever suffer a troublesome injury in need of treatment, young brother, you can come to Wandao Valley to find me.”

As soon as they reached the small town, the old man seemed eager to be off, cupping his hands in farewell to Lu Chang’an.

Lu Chang’an was a bit puzzled, not understanding why the old man was in such a hurry to leave, but he still said politely, “Uncle, why rush off?”

“Tell me what medicinal herbs you need, and I can help you purchase them.”

“There’s no need to trouble you, young master.”

“We’ve arrived at the town.”

“I’ve already forced the poisonous blood out of Lian’er with my true qi.”

“For the remaining toxicity, I just need to prepare a simple antidote.”

Mo Danqing politely declined Lu Chang’an’s offer, then called out to the carriage, “Lian’er, get off.”

“Let’s find an inn to rest.”

After Mo Danqing’s words, there was a brief pause before the voice of Liu Yang, now transformed into Madam Wang, sounded from inside the carriage.

“Miss Lian’er, your grandfather is calling for you.”

Another moment of silence passed before rustling noises came from the carriage, followed by Lian’er’s somewhat slow, soft voice.

“Ah, thank you… sister, for reminding me.”

She slowly lifted the curtain and stepped down from the carriage.

Before being pulled away by Mo Danqing, who tugged at her sleeve, Lian’er turned her head to glance at Lu Chang’an and flashed a pure smile.

“Lian’er likes you very much.”

“I hope we can meet again.”

“Ah?”

Lu Chang’an was taken aback.

By the time he came to his senses, Lian’er had already been dragged away by a scowling Mo Danqing.

A strange feeling stirred in Lu Chang’an’s heart.

He hadn’t spent much time with Mo Danqing and Lian’er—only half a day’s journey at most.

They had barely exchanged a few words.

Yet he felt an inexplicable warmth toward that girl, Lian’er, and even a faint sense of longing.

‘How odd.’

He murmured softly to himself, shook his head, and set aside the matter.

He then drove the carriage toward the town’s inn.

By now, night had fallen.

Although Liantian Manor was only a short distance away, traveling in the dark was unsafe, so he decided to rest in this town.

“Master, why are you dragging me away so quickly?”

Puzzled, Lian’er, pulled along by her master, could feel that her master seemed to dislike that gentleman who gave her such a comfortable feeling.

“If I didn’t leave quickly, your soul would be stolen by that pretty face!”

Mo Danqing replied indignantly.

How could his precious disciple be lured away by such a handsome man?

“But that gentleman is a good person.”

“He gives me a different feeling than others.”

Lian’er’s response came a beat late.

She looked at Mo Danqing in confusion and countered, “Master, didn’t you say before that Lian’er was born under an unlucky star, that I would never advance far in martial arts, and that it would be a blessing if I could find a good man to marry?”

Mo Danqing nearly choked on his own breath.

He had indeed said that to Lian’er back then, but…

Well, although Lian’er had an incredibly sharp intuition and had never been wrong, marriage was no trivial matter to be decided so hastily.

Exactly!

That was it!

“Lian’er, this is your marriage we’re talking about.”

“How can you decide so rashly?”

Mo Danqing said earnestly.

“Besides, you’re still young.”

“It’s not time to think about such things yet.”

After a long pause, Lian’er seemed to finally grasp her master’s meaning and responded with a soft, “Oh.”

Seeing that his disciple had let go of that notion, Mo Danqing breathed a sigh of relief.

He had managed to protect his precious apprentice.

But before he could fully relax, Lian’er changed her tune.

“But Lian’er really does like that gentleman.”

“He didn’t dislike me for my slowness or my dirty appearance.”

“He’s a truly good person.”

Mo Danqing was exasperated.

He glared and said bluntly, “Don’t even think about it!”

“This was just a chance encounter.”

“Whether you’ll see him again is uncertain.”

“If you do meet again, then we’ll talk!”

Mo Danqing didn’t believe he would ever run into that so-called Zhao Qi again.

The reason they had come to Liantian Manor was to trade for a certain medicinal herb.

With that herb, perhaps he could treat the old injury that had damaged his precious disciple’s heart and mind.

Lu Chang’an, of course, was unaware of the conversation between Master Mo and his disciple.

But just as he had settled into his room, Liu Yang spoke to him hesitantly.

“I feel like I’ve heard the name Mo Danqing somewhere before.”

“Also…”

“It’s not surprising you’ve heard of someone from Wandao Valley, right?”

Lu Chang’an didn’t find it odd.

Wandao Valley was far more prestigious than Liantian Manor.

It was considered one of the righteous leaders, a top-tier sect.

It was perfectly normal for a member of such a sect, even one at the Xiantian Three Flowers realm, to be well-known in the jianghu.

“That’s true, but that young girl…”

Liu Yang fell silent for a moment, then said uncertainly, “She gave me a strange feeling.”

“Maybe it’s my imagination, but I think she might have seen through my disguise.”

Lu Chang’an was startled.

He looked at Liu Yang in surprise.

“Are you sure?”

“When I checked her pulse earlier, I confirmed she was only a Houtian martial artist, far from reaching Houtian perfection.”

Given Liu Yang’s current disguise, even a Carefree realm expert couldn’t see through it just by looking.

How could that young girl manage such a feat?

“That’s why I said it might be my imagination…”

Liu Yang sighed.

“But it probably doesn’t matter much.”

“That girl doesn’t seem like the talkative type, and we helped them.”

“Even if they sensed something off, they probably won’t say anything, right?”

Wandao Valley and Liantian Manor had a rather mediocre relationship.

In fact, there had been friction between the two sects in the past, so Liu Yang wasn’t too worried about this.

“Let’s take things as they come.”

“First, we have to get past the Second Manor Lord.”

Lu Chang’an wasn’t too concerned either.

First, because the girl named Lian’er had left a good impression on him, and second, even if Lian’er had seen through Liu Yang’s disguise, it wasn’t the biggest problem.

The most important issue was how to fool the Second Manor Lord, who was very familiar with Madam Wang.

Even out of respect for his wife, the Second Manor Lord probably wouldn’t use his Carefree realm divine sense to probe Liu Yang.

But they were husband and wife after all, and no matter how well Liu Yang disguised himself, it was highly likely that the Second Manor Lord would detect some anomaly.
