Could such a young person truly resolve an issue that had plagued her for years? Had Liu Guochang perhaps recommended the wrong individual?
Despite her internal reservations, the beautiful woman betrayed no hint of them, her expression remaining a picture of gentle warmth and a soft smile.
“Allow me to introduce myself; my name is Deng Shuqi. Master Bai, you are far younger than I had imagined. Truly, a hero emerging from…”
“There’s no need for pleasantries, Miss Deng. Please, tell me the specific details of the situation.”
Bai Wanwan cut short Deng Shuqi’s polite overtures. After all, Bai Wanwan’s objective was straightforward: she was solely here for the million yuan. To resolve a client’s issue, ensure their satisfaction, collect the payment, and then depart—that was the proper course of action.
As for the proprietress of a nightclub, Bai Wanwan harbored no desire to become entangled with her in any way. Not even her striking beauty could sway her. Such women, in her estimation, were almost invariably trouble.
“It’s hardly convenient to discuss matters here. Please, step into the car, and we can proceed directly to the site.”
As Deng Shuqi spoke, she solicitously opened the Maybach’s door for Bai Wanwan.
“Just a moment.”
Bai Wanwan glanced back, noticing Liu Hanzhi had not followed. She surmised that Liu Hanzhi had found it inconvenient to make an appearance earlier, with the landlady standing at the doorway. But surely she should emerge now? It wouldn’t do to abandon her and proceed to Jinbaihan alone, would it? After all, Liu Hanzhi was responsible for carrying all the essential tools she required…
“Whom are you awaiting?”
Deng Shuqi followed Bai Wanwan’s gaze, yet saw nothing out of the ordinary.
“My assistant.”
“An assistant?”
Deng Shuqi’s brow furrowed. ‘This Master Bai certainly comes with a surprising number of demands,’ she mused. Her patience was steadily eroding. If Bai Wanwan proved less miraculous than Liu Guochang had claimed, Deng Shuqi resolved she would not let her off lightly. In the entirety of Bai City, with the fall of the Bai family, who else commanded such deference, such polite discourse from her? Had it not been for Liu Guochang’s assurance that Bai Wanwan possessed the ability to resolve her predicament, Deng Shuqi, whose family wealth exceeded a hundred million, who rode in a Maybach, and commanded a dedicated driver and bodyguards, would under no circumstances have deigned to cast a glance at Bai Wanwan, dwelling in a decrepit dwelling within an urban village.
As it stood, Bai Wanwan appeared utterly unremarkable. Could someone of her demeanor genuinely resolve an issue that had tormented Deng Shuqi for two long years?
Just as Deng Shuqi silently disparaged Bai Wanwan, a sudden sound emanated from above. Instantly, she looked up, witnessing a sight that would forever be etched in her memory.
A woman, clad in a form-fitting qipao that accentuated her exquisite figure, slowly descended as if from the heavens. In her hand, she clutched a handbag, seemingly heavy and bulging with an assortment of miscellaneous items. Yet, the woman alighted gracefully and steadily upon the ground, as effortlessly as a falling leaf. The sight left any observer utterly dumbfounded.
“What in the… is that a stunt?”
Deng Shuqi craned her neck, gazing at the decrepit residential building. There was no discernible rigging for wires here; how had the woman managed such a descent? Had Deng Shuqi not possessed some prior experience with supernatural occurrences, having witnessed them firsthand in her own nightclub, she would undoubtedly have shrieked aloud. As it was, the present circumstances were sufficient to make her question if she were truly awake.
“Could this possibly be… Bai Wanwan’s assistant? An assistant capable of such aerial feats? Then what kind of divine being was Bai Wanwan herself?”
“Why didn’t you use the main entrance?”
Bai Wanwan’s tone held a hint of chiding annoyance.
“Oh, there was an auntie blocking the entrance, and I didn’t dare reveal myself carelessly. Never mind how I got here; the important thing is I’ve got your essentials ready!”
Liu Hanzhi swung the bag she held. Aside from this very bag, the only other receptacles for holding items in Bai Wanwan’s home were trash bags. These were the implements for earning their livelihood; surely, they couldn’t be relegated to a mere trash bag? How utterly undignified that would be.
“Be more mindful next time.”
Bai Wanwan playfully poked Liu Hanzhi’s forehead.
“Miss Deng, I apologize for the delay. If everything is in order, shall we depart?”
Bai Wanwan observed Deng Shuqi’s utterly astonished expression. Despite Deng Shuqi’s internal efforts to compose herself, the shock was still writ large across her face.
‘My apologies, Master. I clearly misjudged you earlier.’
