“N-no… no!”
Xiang Qing’s voice trembled.
Unable to meet Gu Wei’s gaze, she fixed her eyes on her own toes, wishing she could dig a three-bedroom, one-living-room apartment out of the floor with them.
“Then why are you trembling?”
Gu Wei’s tone was laced with mischievous amusement.
“And your posture is so peculiar.”
As she spoke, she actually reached out, giving the fluffy cat tail at the back of Xiang Qing’s maid outfit a playful squeeze.
“Look, your tail is all stiff.”
Xiang Qing: “!!!”
‘This madwoman!’
‘Don’t touch my tail! And certainly don’t comment on my posture!’
“Perhaps… my leg fell asleep,” Xiang Qing squeezed out, attempting to bluff her way through.
All she wanted now was for this ordeal to end quickly.
Yet, Gu Wei had no intention of granting her wish.
“Oh really?”
Gu Wei drew out her words, her voice sounding utterly wicked.
“Why do I get the impression you’re feeling rather warm?”
“With so much steam in this bathroom, your face is flushed, and even your neck has turned crimson.”
Gu Wei slowly straightened up, causing the water to ripple.
Turning to face Xiang Qing directly, she rested her arms on the edge of the tub, propping her chin on her forearms, and observed her with keen interest.
“Darling, is there something you’re hiding from me?”
Xiang Qing’s heart pounded almost out of her throat.
‘She saw it! She definitely saw it!’
While frantically chastising herself internally, Xiang Qing simultaneously sought to justify her reaction.
‘It’s all this body’s fault!’
‘It’s been too long since I’ve seen a beauty!’
‘And a vixen of Gu Wei’s caliber!’
‘A little reaction is perfectly normal! Yes, it’s just a normal physiological response! I’ll get used to it eventually!’
“I… I didn’t,” Xiang Qing insisted stubbornly.
“Are you sure?”
Gu Wei’s gaze suddenly slid slowly, ever so slowly, from Xiang Qing’s flushed face.
It traced over the bell collar on her neck, past the rising and falling lace on her chest, before finally, precisely, landing between her legs.
Xiang Qing’s breathing hitched.
‘I’m done for.’
‘She’s going to kill me.’
A supremely wicked smile curved on Gu Wei’s lips.
Her voice dropped to a low, husky whisper, laden with innuendo, as she spoke softly, enunciating each word.
“Darling, why is there a wet patch under your skirt?”
“Did you accidentally splash some water there?”
Xiang Qing felt as if her skull had been ripped off by that suggestive remark.
‘She saw it!’
‘That perverted woman definitely saw it!’
‘It’s over! Social death!’
‘My soul, that of a straight man of steel, actually reacted to a woman’s body! If this gets out, how will I ever hold my head up again!’
‘What utter humiliation! This is simply utterly humiliating!’
Shame, embarrassment, fury… countless emotions swirled frantically in her mind like steam in a pressure cooker, on the verge of exploding.
When fear reached its peak, only fury remained.
For Xiang Qing, extreme shyness also manifested as anger!
She couldn’t take it anymore! Not for another second!
“Yes! It’s wet!”
Xiang Qing suddenly lifted her head, her face as red as a monkey’s backside, whether from anger or shame, she couldn’t tell.
She yelled, throwing caution to the wind.
“I couldn’t hold it, so I peed! What of it!”
“Not only did I pee, but I’m going to pee a whole bathtub for you! Pee all over you! What are you going to do about it!”
“I just love peeing my pants! I pee every day! I pee wherever I go!”
Xiang Qing had thrown all caution to the wind, shouting out every shameless word she could possibly think of in her life.
‘So what if it’s embarrassing! Come on! Let’s hurt each other! Let’s see who’s more perverted!’
The entire bathroom fell silent instantly, leaving only Xiang Qing’s heavy, ragged breaths.
The smile on Gu Wei’s face froze.
Her eyes, usually filled with playful mockery and amusement, were now uncharacteristically wide, clearly expressing two words: utterly baffled.
Evidently, Xiang Qing’s shocking declaration had completely stunned her.
She had anticipated Xiang Qing would be shy, would beg for mercy, or would blush and stammer out excuses, but she had never imagined Xiang Qing would simply explode on the spot, and do so in such a uniquely “fresh and refined” manner.
‘Peed?’
‘And pee all over her?’
‘What kind of outrageous words are these?’
A full five seconds passed before Gu Wei finally regained her voice.
She looked at the flustered cat-girl before her, and her lips twitched involuntarily.
“Alright.”
Gu Wei rose from the bathtub, casually grabbing a nearby towel to wrap around herself.
“You’re something else.”
She actually smiled, her previous malice replaced by a defeated helplessness and a hint of damned indulgence.
“You may leave.”
Xiang Qing froze, ‘She’s letting me off just like that?’
Not daring to ponder further, she simply yearned to escape the “crime scene” as quickly as possible.
She practically scrambled out of the bathroom on all fours, tumbling and crawling as if pursued by a ghost.
In the living room, Shen Lanzhi sat gracefully on the sofa, holding a book.
Seeing Xiang Qing rush out looking utterly distraught, she immediately put down her book and came forward, her face etched with worry.
“Xiao Qing, what’s wrong? Did she bully you?”
Shen Lanzhi’s voice was so gentle it could drip with sweetness, and she reached out to steady Xiang Qing.
“I’m fine!”
Xiang Qing had no time for any display of sisterly affection; she flung Shen Lanzhi’s hand away, and after quickly changing, dashed towards the entrance without a backward glance.
“I’m leaving now!”
All she wanted now was to crawl into a crack in the earth, and for no one to bother her!
Watching Xiang Qing flee in disarray, the worry on Shen Lanzhi’s face slowly faded, replaced by a knowing smile.
She turned her head to look at Gu Wei, who had just emerged from the bathroom, her tone still gentle as ever, yet her words held no shortage of barbs.
“It seems some of your particular proclivities have quite frightened our Xiao Qing.”
Wiping her damp hair, Gu Wei let out a cold snort.
“None of your damn business, you old green tea.”
Xiang Qing sprinted out of Star Convergence International, not even bothering to say goodbye, and plunged directly into the subway station.
Sitting on the subway home, Xiang Qing’s face remained burning hot.
She buried her head in her knees, feeling as though everyone in the carriage was laughing at her.
‘How humiliating! Utterly humiliating!’
‘What on earth did I say!’
‘Pee my pants? And pee all over someone else?’
‘Ahhh! Xiang Qing, you might as well change your name to Xiang Crack-in-the-Earth and just crawl in and never come out!’
‘Whoever wants this crappy nanny job can have it!’
‘I’m not doing it anymore!’
‘Is 800,000 a lot? Yes, a lot! But compared to my dignity… it seems 800,000 is still more important.’
‘No! Dignity is priceless!’
Xiang Qing waged a furious internal battle, and in the end, anger triumphed over poverty.
‘This job, I can’t do it anymore! If I stay any longer, that perverted woman Gu Wei will surely torment me to death!’
The moment she returned to her cramped yet secure rented room, Xiang Qing collapsed onto her bed.
She pulled out her phone, ready to confront Gu Wei online and sever ties completely.
Just as she opened WeChat, a concise message from Gu Wei popped up.
Gu Wei: [Absent without leave?]
Xiang Qing’s temper flared instantly.
‘Absent without leave?’
‘I’m resigning!’
Her fingers flew across the keyboard, clattering away as if fighting a world war.
Xiang Qing: [Yes, I was absent without leave, and I’m not just going to be absent, I’m resigning! Gu Wei, let me tell you, you pervert! You lunatic! Do you think having a few stinking dollars makes you special? Although I, Xiang Qing, am poor, I have dignity! Your disrespectful behavior has severely wounded my tender heart! I’m not doing this nanny job anymore! And I’m not paying back the 800,000 either! If you’ve got the guts, come and get me! This life, next life, the life after that, don’t even think about seeing me again! I’m moving immediately, to a place you won’t find even with an 8x scope! Goodbye! Never seeing you again!]
After typing out that lengthy tirade, Xiang Qing still felt unsatisfied, so she added a string of angry emojis at the end.
She took a deep breath, checked for typos, and prepared to hit send, ready to block and delete in one swift motion.
Just as her finger was about to touch the screen.
“Ding-dong.”
A new message popped up.
It was a red transfer notification.
[Gu Wei transferred 50,000 yuan to you.]
Xiang Qing’s finger froze mid-air.
She blinked, then blinked again, wondering if she was hallucinating from sheer anger.
‘Fifty thousand?’
‘Fifty thousand yuan?’
‘RMB?’
Xiang Qing tremblingly reached out with her other hand and fiercely pinched her thigh.
‘Hiss—it hurts!’
