Chapter 28 : I’m really bad at that game.

The Tagirion clear video spread across the NewD community.

Thanks to that, the number of followers skyrocketed.

So I thought, ‘At this rate, won’t I escape being a small streamer in no time?’

But… it took me a long time to realize that was a misconception.

“That’s all for today…”

─Goodnight, Lene noona

Today’s average viewer count: 12.

Even during the Tagirion raid stream, the average viewer count was 18, but somehow, in just four days, it dropped by 6.

My followers have nearly doubled, so why did this happen…?

…Honestly, I had a hunch about the reason.

Most of my viewers came from the NewD gallery.

Which, put another way, means my viewers already know almost everything there is to know about NewD.

At first, my stream might be interesting to those people, but it’s not the kind of stream they’d keep coming back to watch.

Winning streaks in PVP?

Not many NewD players are interested in PVP anyway.

Tagirion raid?

It’s a raid that can only be done once a week, so there’s a long gap.

Plus, people have already analyzed the Tagirion raid videos to some extent, so even if I show it again, it won’t mean much. After all, there are other ways to clear the Tagirion raid.

In short, what I’m showing them isn’t new or entertaining for them.

Except for the real hardcore NewD addicts… who would enjoy just watching me breathe in the NewD world.

To be fair, even Tuni said that my viewers are a special case.

Anyway, things can’t go on like this.

Especially with my birthday coming up—at this rate, I’ll end up just attaching googly eyes to a teddy bear for my birthday…

The only silver lining is that the remaining viewers are consistently active in the chat.

I don’t want to take comfort in something so small, but right now, I have no choice.

So, what should I do now?

The answer was clear from the start.

“So, B-bora, what kind of videos do you usually watch on Ontube…?”

“I told you to just call me Bora!”

“I-I’ll try… So, what kind of videos do you usually watch on Ontube?”

Bora looked at me with slight disapproval, pursing her lips, but only for a moment.

She opened Ontube on her phone and showed me what kind of recommended videos were popping up for her.

“Recently, these kinds of videos are the most fun.”

Unfortunately, the videos Bora showed me didn’t seem like the right answer for me.

Cute characters running around, games with a very casual feel…

Especially the videos about using the Reverse Capsule were completely different from what I had in mind.

Well, to be fair, even though I use the Reverse Capsule as a NewD launcher, it is used for all sorts of things.

The reason I started streaming in the first place was because of Bora’s suggestion, but what she expected and what I imagined were probably completely different.

It’s a bit disappointing…

“Why did you ask about this anyway, Lene sis?”

“I-I was just curious about what kind of content Bora enjoys watching…”

“…I see!”

For some reason, Bora sat on my lap after listening to my answer and started introducing the videos she was enjoying.

Well, to be honest, I couldn’t really understand what was so entertaining about them… but at least Bora seemed happy, so that was a relief.

Of course, my mental endurance was being pushed to its limits because of it. I feel like I’m going to throw up…

[Lené]

[Jumping Up Challenge]

[Jumping Up! | 11 viewers | 0:00:11]

– ?

– Isn’t that NewD, Lené?

— Did this guy know how to play games like this?

“Ah, hello….”

The 11 viewers who came in when the stream started were my precious regulars. All of their usernames were familiar—without a single exception. Should I be sad about that, or should I feel fondness…?

Anyway, my precious 11 regulars started flooding the chat with question marks as soon as they entered my stream.

“Today, I thought I’d try this game that’s been trending lately called *Jumping Up!*…”

― Quit the crap and turn on NewD.

– What kind of Jumping Up nonsense is this?

― Now this guy is following trends too, huh?

The reaction was worse than I expected.

But I’m not deceived by these reactions. The 11 people who came right when the stream started are real NewD maniacs—meaning they’re so obsessed with NewD that they’d watch me just breathing in the game.

What’s important to me isn’t these 11, but the 5 new viewers that might join in the future. So, I hope you guys can be a little understanding…

[Remember how I mentioned that just playing NewD would bring in a few viewers?]

-“You did, yeah.”

[That small number of viewers will probably be around 11 for your stream, Lené. You might think that’s really small, but expecting too many viewers in the first place is just greedy. If someone wanted to watch NewD, they could just go watch the guaranteed fun from a big-time streamer’s NewD stream. There’s no need to watch a small-time streamer’s NewD stream, right?]

“Yeah, that’s true…”

[So those 11 viewers are the ones who tuned in just because you’re playing NewD. Now, you need to use these 11 as a stepping stone to find ways to grow your audience. But here’s the problem. You’re thinking of becoming a NewD specialist streamer, right?]

“…Yes.”

[You should probably give up on that idea. I don’t mean you shouldn’t play NewD, but you can’t rely on it alone. Streamers who stick to one game and manage to keep their audience typically fall into two categories: The first is when the game has a small player base, and thus fewer streamers. The second is when the streamer has high recognition in the game. The first case doesn’t apply since Nudie has too many players. And as for the second…]

“You’re saying my recognition isn’t at that level, right…?”

[Yes.]

While my recognition in NewD was relatively high, Tuni’s point that it wasn’t enough to make people watch my stream… couldn’t be denied. I never thought I had that much recognition in NewD anyway.

[So instead of stubbornly sticking to NewD, I think it’d be good to try other games too. It’d be even better if they’re games trending in Lyming.]

“You’re suggesting that, just like I gained about 11 viewers with NewD, I should gradually build my audience by playing other trending games too?”

[That’s true… Well, this is only something you do at first, but to grow into a big company, you’ll eventually need something else, haha….]

“Hmm… then what game would be good to play?”

[Right now, I think it’s definitely *Jumping Up*. I tried it myself, and the response was great. It’s the kind of game where it’s fun to tease streamers when they can’t do well….]

“Then I’ll give it a try.”

[Ah, but come to think of it, since you’re so good at games, Lene, it might feel a bit different.]

“…What?”

[You might actually clear *Jumping Up* too easily and make it a talking point….]

“I’m really bad at games, though?”

[…What?]

**Jumping Up!**

A platformer game where the character jumps around using platforms.

*Jumping Up* is one of those games where you just have to jump and land on platforms to keep climbing upwards—super simple.

But while the concept is simple, clearing it takes an enormous amount of time and patience, boasting an incredibly difficult challenge.

It’s a game optimized to torture streamers, following in the footsteps of *Sky King*, another platformer that became popular in the streaming world a few years ago.

**[Lene]**

**[Jumping Up challenge]**

**[Jumping Up! | 19 viewers | 0:42:51]**

And right now, one of the new streamers, Lene, had started a *Jumping Up* challenge.

[…Ah, I fell.]

—He fell ㅋㅋ

—There’s no emotion in that voice ㅋㅋ

—This is boring, Lene, just turn on *New D*…

—Lene noona, I’m dying here

—I’m gonna lose my mind I’m gonna lose my mind

For some reason, it was his viewers who were suffering. In the 40 minutes he’d been streaming,

Lene hadn’t even cleared the first area yet.

He’d make a little progress, then fall. Make a little more progress, then fall again… repeating the same scene over and over.

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with this. The point of this type of game is to watch streamers struggle and fail, suffering through it for the viewers’ entertainment.

But the problem?

[This game is hard.]

—Who the hell recommended *Jumping Up* to this guy?

—I can feel my teeth grinding

—I’m losing my mind, please

—Does this guy have no emotions…?

Lene’s reaction was completely emotionless.

He kept saying things like “It’s hard” and “It’s difficult,” but his voice showed no signs of frustration.

The biggest joy in watching streamers play these games comes from seeing them stressed out, but Lene… wasn’t getting stressed at all.

This was where things started going wrong with the stream.

So, was the streamer playing the game quickly enough to not get stressed out?

[Ah, I fell again.]

—Just stick to Newbie Dungeon forever, Tenryeon, lol.

That wasn’t the case either.

Lene couldn’t even make it past the first area and kept falling off the easiest platforms.

When Lene said before starting “Jumping Up” that she was worried because she wasn’t good at games, there was no lie in her words.

No, saying she simply wasn’t good at games would actually be an understatement.

She was really, unbelievably bad at it. She was like a newbie in the starting village.

It was hard to believe this was the same player who had cleared the Tygirion raid in “Newbie Dungeon” with an innovative strategy just a few days ago.

So, while the game wasn’t progressing at all, the streamer herself wasn’t getting stressed and her reactions were incredibly dry and emotionless.

In the end, the same scenes kept repeating, and it turned into a disastrous “Jumping Up” stream where only the viewers were grinding their teeth in frustration.

Meanwhile, Lene, the one playing…

“Oh, almost 20 viewers now.”

She was just happy about the increasing viewership.
