Chapter 28: Pitiful creature

There are many reasons why a streamer might face downfall, but for female streamers, the two most fatal causes are as follows:

One, being caught having a boyfriend they claimed not to have.

Two, being caught as unattractive.

“But that’s not why I watch the stream. I just find it entertaining.”

“I don’t feel any romantic emotions towards the streamer. Who even develops romantic feelings from a stream? Gross, what a broth-like stench.”

Despite such claims, why do viewers stop watching when a female streamer’s hidden boyfriend gets exposed?

Perhaps they are sad creatures who lie with their words but remain brutally honest in their minds.

And just as fatal as the exposure of a hidden boyfriend is the revelation of an unattractive appearance.

For that reason, the number of viewers for Jeon Jeonseol’s streams plummeted, and now her daily peak viewers barely exceeded 200.

As Seola wanted, there were hardly any viewers harassing her anymore.

She could stream as she pleased.

“But there’s no talent!”

Jeon Jeonseol continued her magical fight tutorial streams.

Since the game was quite similar to Teamfight Arena, there were a few students who absorbed the lessons rather quickly.

However, they ultimately lacked something decisive: talent.

It’s obvious when you think about it.

The top of a class, the top of a school, the top in a city, and the top nationwide.

Each level feels vastly different, right?

You need a large pool of people to find those rare gems of talent.

A failed stream with viewer-participation games could only gather about 30 to 40 participants at best.

The fact that Victory, Wild, and Legender were all gathered in such a niche game was nothing short of a miracle.

In fact, the best player among Jeon Jeonseol’s viewers was equivalent to a Diamond rank in Teamfight Arena.

There’s no way anyone could impress Jeon Jeonseol, who sliced through Masters like they were beginner bots.

Ah, so this is why they say people should play in a bigger pond.

The downfall of her stream? She didn’t care at all.

No, she was relieved that the viewers dwindled!

But there was one issue she absolutely could not tolerate.

She couldn’t enjoy the game anymore!

There were no worthy opponents!

“Honestly, this is driving me insane!”

When every game feels like playing house, what’s left to enjoy?

“Just let me find peace, you bastards!”

In the end, her only option was to reach out to them.

Jeon Jeonseol messaged Victory and Wild again.

“Please, just play one game with me!”

Legender: “If you want to stay friends with me, you need to promise me two things.”

Legender: “First, don’t fall for me.”

Legender: “Second, even if you do, don’t confess.”

A few days ago, Wild received the exact same message Victory had received.

Wild: “Have you lost your mind?”

Wild: “Why would I fall for you?”

Wild was also a successful professional gamer.

He wasn’t the type to get all giddy and smitten just because his gaming buddy happened to be a woman.

Legender: “Anyway, promise me.”

Wild: “Fine, whatever.”

Such a blunt attitude.

Though Wild laughed at the absurdity of the situation, he reluctantly agreed.

Legender: “Remember Orpheus.”

Wild: “What the hell are you talking about?”

Unlike Victory, who had looked it up himself, Wild asked outright.

Legender: “It means you must keep your promise to the very end, no matter what.”

“Is it that serious?”

What confidence, what basis did she have to think I’d fall for her?

Wild wanted to question her logic, but he felt that if he pushed her too hard, Legender might retreat again.

After all, the last contact he received from her was after days of being ghosted.

She likely had an avoidant personality disorder.

The type to evade and run away from trouble rather than confront it.

Like a child who cries for an adult when things go wrong—a rather tiresome type.

“But damn, she’s good at games.”

During the peak era of battles between the Legendary Clan and Winner Clan, she was truly formidable.

And judging by her skills in Teamfight Arena, she hadn’t lost her touch.

Recalling the arena bread incident, Wild remembered.

Some criticized him for being cowardly, but the world of gamers was always cold and calculating.

The most optimal strategy Wild could think of at the time was Tinker.

Yet Legender, now Jeon Jeonseol, had countered it effortlessly, living up to her nickname.

“Could she be aiming for the pro scene?”

It’s unreasonable to think anyone could fall for someone’s voice alone over the internet.

So maybe Jeon Jeonseol had plans to debut as a professional gamer?

But a total newbie without even a single ranked game under her belt?

Why does that even matter?

The monster who earned Victory’s recognition and crushed Wild’s spirit in the game!

“I am a bit curious about what she looks like.”

Even after finding out she was a woman, Wild wasn’t particularly curious about her appearance.

But with behavior like that, how could one not wonder?

“Not that I’d do anything about it, though.”

Wild wasn’t the type of person to bluntly ask for a picture out of nowhere.

So, he swallowed his curiosity and moved on.

The next day, however, the internet was flooded with the topic of “Jeon Jeonseol’s red pill.”

Even then, Wild tried not to look at the picture.

He felt it might make things awkward afterward.

But then, the youngest member of his team shoved the picture in his face, calling it “Jeon Jeonseol’s red pill,” and by the time he heard the explanation, the image had already burned itself into his memory.

“Instead of worrying about someone else’s face, why don’t you work on your skills?”

Wild treated the youngest with a dose of righteous acupuncture—mentally, at least.

Still, the picture was already etched in his mind.

“Let’s cut her some slack if she acts strangely. She’s probably been through a lot.”

He started to feel sympathy for Jeon Jeonseol.

It never crossed his mind that the picture might be fake.

Isn’t there a saying that the hardest life to live is that of an unattractive woman?

Could all of Jeon Jeonseol’s quirks be the result of pain she experienced in the real world?

Wild felt a pang of pity.

But he didn’t show it outwardly.

There was no need to admit he’d seen the picture.

If possible, he wanted to forget about it entirely.

But, of course, there are always trashy people who love to stir the pot, and during Wild’s streams, a few would pop in to shove unwanted updates about Jeon Jeonseol into the chat.

“Her viewers are under 1,000 now.”

“She’s still wasting her time with Magical Fight.”

“She’s just a 200-viewer small fry now.”

After banning these trolls, more ridicule would follow.

“Did you cut ties with her because she’s ugly?”

“Tsk.”

Why is the world so full of mean-spirited people?

Why do they care so much about the appearance of someone they’ll never even meet over the internet?

Thinking about how Jeon Jeonseol must be enduring such harassment made Wild feel uneasy.

Legender: “Can’t you play some Magical Fight with me?”

Legender: “A martial arts world with no rival is just too lonely.”

The first message in a long time carried such a metaphor.

Another one of her ridiculous comparisons.

Wild: “Just stop and play Teamfight Arena.”

Wild: “Finish your max-level content.”

Wild: “I’m free all weekend.”

Legender: “Hmm…”

Legender: “Are you okay with playing with me?”

Legender: “Trolls will swarm like crazy.”

Wild: “I’ve been a pro for three years.”

Wild: “I’m the 2jun of Junjunjun.”

Wild: “Do you think I’d lose my mental composure over small stuff?”

Wild: “I’ve been roasted online ten times more than you have.”

Wild’s current image of Jeon Jeonseol was this:

Bullied or ignored from a young age because of her appearance.

Starting all kinds of odd behavior due to her broken self-esteem.

A slightly peculiar person.

But at her core, a kind individual who worries about her friends.

There’s no way someone like her should be shunned just because of her looks!

“She’s a good kid.”

For a friend like that, Wild intentionally downplayed himself to create common ground.

“I’ve been roasted way more online than you.”

“But I overcame it, so you can too.”

At the same time, Jeon Jeonseol was having similar thoughts.

Spring 2022: Runner-up.

Summer 2023: Runner-up.

Worlds: Runner-up.

Zero championship wins.

“Wild’s self-esteem must have completely crumbled!”

There’s a big difference between others mocking him as “2jun” and him mocking himself as “2jun.”

“You need to cherish yourself more!”

“Poor thing!”

“I should compliment him and help rebuild his confidence.”

Jeon Jeonseol resolved to treat Wild more kindly.

And so, with mutual misunderstandings growing between them, the day of their second collaborative stream finally arrived.
