A Monster in Every Sense of the Word

Chapter 29 • 569 words • 5 min read

Facing such an majestic army, it could be said that the church and royal family had practically sent out all their elites at this moment.

“I do not believe you possess that capability,” Furenna stood quietly in place, awaiting the approach of the opposing main force. “Or do you truly think a ninth-tier grand magic can stop me?”

Magic levels were classified from 1 to 9. The first five levels were ordinary elemental energy forming magical attacks, the difference between them merely reflected in strength. But starting from the sixth to the eighth level, magic became complex, no longer limited to simple energy attacks, but touched upon the essence of elements, and the magical effects also became tricky and diverse.

Upon reaching the topmost level of ninth-tier grand magic, one already touched the limits of the magical domain, achieving the level of “World Laws,” controlling part of the corresponding elemental power.

“It’s not a belief. It’s a certainty.”

Lilith spoke coldly. The holy scripture in her hands, symbolizing the Goddess’s grace, was raised high. Its pages flipped open, numerous magic incantations inside instantly lit up, detaching from the pages and turning into pure magic power, merging into the long-prepared ninth-tier grand magic array.

“Furenna, you probably don’t know this. The reason your Heroine bodies are so powerful, fundamentally unlike humans, isn’t due to some Goddess’s blessing. It’s because when the Goddess creates you, she uses the stars that decorate her holy hall.”

William waited confidently for the ninth-tier grand magic to be cast. This magic was studied by the church for a long time. Ever since learning the true identity of the Heroine’s bodily structure, to prevent another incident like the previous Heroine attempting to destroy the royal family and church, they designed this new magic.

Stars, in essence, were what the Creator Goddess used to decorate the sky and light up the night. They were also the main material for decorating and building her holy hall, extremely sturdy.

“Heroines are essentially just sufficiently sturdy stones,” William wore an utterly smug expression, seemingly believing he had completely secured victory. “Not living beings in the strict sense. Truly monsters in name and reality.”

Furenna did not speak. Under William’s mockery, she remained silent. But her slightly trembling hands gripping the sword proved that her heart was not calm at this moment.

As a Heroine, she was granted by the Creator Goddess a body made of stars, of absolutely pure quality, and miracle abilities.

But Furenna didn’t know how she was created. Her memory began at “Falling Star Village,” not the Creator Goddess’s Starry Hall. The duty assigned to Furenna was to kill the Demon King, defeat the demons, and protect humanity. Beyond that, she knew nothing of the world.

Furenna, this young Heroine, lived solely for this task bestowed by the Goddess—”eliminate the demon race and protect humanity.”

So when hearing William’s mockery, deep within her heart, she suddenly realized: she indeed was a monster.

The Heroine’s body was made of stars. Her power was bestowed by the Goddess. She lived only to complete a mission. What part of that resembled a human?

Humans could live for many reasons. Even demons could live for goals other than “invading humanity.” But the meaning of Furenna’s existence was only the mission “protect humanity,” forcibly imposed by the Goddess.

Heroine Furenna was less a living being, and more a machine shaped like a human.
