<Did Kayak enter the tournament?>
I thought it would be nice if they entered, but they really did, lol. This tournament’s going to be fun.
ㄴ Applause for a fan in action!
ㄴ Yeah, they even got funding from Ionix, so the scale’s gotten bigger too.
ㄴ You don’t know Kayak?
ㄴ There are still people who don’t know Kayak?
ㄴ You don’t know Kayak, the guardian of the gallery?
ㄴ No, seriously, who is that;;
ㄴ A guy who doesn’t even get 1500 average views is the guardian, lol. Stop overhyping.
ㄴ This dislike is getting out of hand.
ㄴ You think you know who’s sitting in front of the computer? Guardian of the gallery, lol, ridiculous.
<A player introduction segment too, lol?>
We didn’t have this last year. It used to be like, “This is who they are, their tier, and their best hero,” and that was it. Now they’re even showing highlight videos.
ㄴ He got so much hate back then too.
ㄴ Things kept falling apart, and Taker took all the blame, lol.
ㄴ He really was the scapegoat.
ㄴ Some people here probably bashed him too, hmm…
<Did Kayak submit a video too?>
Looking at the list, they must have, so they passed. Did this person know how to edit highlight videos?
Han River showing off the highlights he sent, and the quality is insane.
<Nicang nailed the highlights, lol>
If you only watch the video, you’d think he’s Grandmaster Challenger.
And then, as soon as Kayak’s highlight video played.
The gallery’s server momentarily crashed.
<What is this?>
What’s up with this ancient video? Is that an old Ian illustration before his rework, and Nox Q-charging? What season is this even from, lol;
ㄴ That’s from Season 2?
ㄴ Yeah, watching Jerome triple-dash, it’s definitely Season 2.
ㄴ Triple dash, lololol, brings back memories.
ㄴ It was so OP that it got hotfixed in 3 days.
ㄴ Everyone was playing broken champions back then.
ㄴ That’s what made it the era of romance.
ㄴ Romance? More like savagery. AD carries had to hold their breath just walking around back then.
ㄴ Isn’t that still the case now?
ㄴ Nah, ADCs are actually doing fine now. Back in the day, you’d die in one second, for real.
<That’s the video I made, lol…>
I never thought it would get used here. Feels good to see it being used well.
ㄴ No relation at all, seriously;;
Onwards and onwards.
The girl’s path was unstoppable, like the conquerors of old continents.
How formidable the enemies of that era were didn’t seem to matter to her, and perhaps it really didn’t.
Boom—
The drumbeat of a pop song echoed loudly in the background. In sync with the pounding beat, Camilla’s steps echoed on the screen.
It was a sound far too heavy for such a tiny girl to make, but somehow, it fit perfectly, a testament to how well-edited the video was.
They say ancient books contain the wisdom of sages from the past.
Indeed, this video felt like that.
The graphics were crude, and the characters within looked somewhat shabby. Perhaps it was because the game had just launched and was still in early development.
But despite the roughness, the content of the video was polished and sophisticated.
Caster Lee Hyuk-jin swallowed unconsciously.
“Ah…”
The dance began.
The silver-haired girl, Camilla, once again started her deadly dance.
One by one, the enemies fell.
Sometimes overwhelmingly, sometimes with only a sliver of health remaining, and sometimes through sluggish yet relentless battles.
For a beginner, it would be hard to even understand what was happening just by watching.
But one thing remained the same in every fight—the last one standing was always Camilla.
The Dance of Death. A performance imbued with the magic that ensured anyone who witnessed it would surely die.
Many people watching the video probably didn’t realize just how amazing this scene was, Lee Hyuk-jin thought.
But he knew. He understood the value of this highlight, this gameplay.
After all, the season in this video was the very same one when he had started playing Abyss.
As someone who lived through that era, he could confidently say this:
Camilla, at the top ranks, going up against countless OP champions,
There’s probably only one person who could play like this—the player in the video, Kayak.
Boom, boom, boom—
As if signaling the end of the video, the background pop song gradually fades, and Camilla comes to a halt.
Then the zoom-in begins.
The chaotic battlefield in the background is no longer part of the scene.
The only thing in the frame now is Camilla’s back.
Slowly, she turns around.
Silver hair and eyes glowing blue.
Her gaze seems to pierce through the screen, as if she’s locking eyes with those watching the video, in a wistful sort of way.
As the music fades and the screen darkens, the video comes to an end.
…
Lee Hyuk-jin unconsciously clicked his tongue.
He found himself feeling like the video was too short.
Even though the length of this highlight was the same as the others that had been shown earlier.
It was the first time he had this feeling while watching players’ highlights.
“This… was fun.”
It felt like watching a short film.
Looking to his side, he noticed the two other commentators, just as speechless as he was.
They probably had similar thoughts.
After all, these were people with trained eyes for the game, being part of the industry.
Seeing their reactions, Lee Hyuk-jin smiled faintly.
Truthfully, he had joined the tournament as a commentator just for the pay, because they were offering good money.
But for some reason, this tournament seemed like it would offer more than just financial gain.
It had been a long time since watching a video made him feel like playing the game again.
While the other commentators remained silent, he was the first to grab the mic.
There was so much he wanted to say.
“At that time, Camilla’s position was basically rock-bottom.”
“No one played her, and it was actually wise not to, because she was so much weaker than the meta picks.”
“The only thing she had going for her was her pretty appearance.”
“That was it.”
“Do you get what I’m trying to say?”
“Do you understand the philosophy behind this highlight?”
“Most of you watching didn’t play back then, so it might be hard to grasp.”
“So this, this is nothing short of a divine play.”
“What kind of god, you ask?”
“The god of Camilla!”
[Hahaha, amazing!]
[Injected with pure hype, cccccc]
[What’s with him, lololol]
[Honestly, it was that kind of video.]
[Even the chat exploded earlier.]
[Look at Hyuk-jin, he’s so hyped he’s straining his voice.]
[Wasn’t this guy usually super calm?]
[I’ve never seen him this loud before.]
[It means he’s really excited.]
[CamillaIsGod!]
[CamillaIsGod!]
[CamillaIsGod!]
[CamillaIsGod!]
[Well-made video.]
[Felt like watching a movie.]
[Camilla doesn’t fall!]
[From the enemy’s perspective, it must’ve felt like a disaster movie, lol.]
…Well, um.
Honestly, I didn’t expect the impact to be this strong.
It was an old video, and the quality wasn’t great either.
I figured most people wouldn’t even understand what I was doing in the game back then.
Was I wrong?
No, I don’t think so.
It’s probably because of the influence of the commentators.
The caster suddenly started explaining after the video ended—
Describing what made the highlight special,
What parts were impressive,
Going over the scenes one by one for the viewers,
With comparisons to make it easier to understand.
I don’t know why he did all that.
He had hyped it up earlier, but now this?
It wouldn’t be strange if people accused him of biased commentary.
Or even speculated that the caster and I had some secret connection.
Anyway, in conclusion, the current situation felt overwhelmingly burdensome.
<“CamillaIsGod” has donated 10,000 won!>
-Please, say something, teacher.
“…I don’t know.”
I honestly couldn’t find the words.
